The man in the suit scratched his head, bewildered by Ning Qing’s unexpected greeting. Ning Qing glanced around, confirming the men in black had moved far away, before turning to bow in apology. "Sir, the situation earlier was quite urgent. I had to use you to create a diversion. Thank you for your assistance."
Finding her rather attractive, the suited man simply replied, "It's fine," and departed.
Ning Qing crossed the road, quickly ducking into the cover of a bush. She sat beside the injured man, her heart pounding against her ribs. She had narrowly escaped a perilous situation.
It was a stroke of luck that her quick thinking had led her to press her phone in her pocket, making it ring as if she had an incoming call. Furthermore, it was fortunate that the man in the suit had appeared at precisely the right moment.
After regaining some composure and steadying her breathing, she raised her head to examine the injured man. Her pupils instantly constricted upon seeing the significant pool of blood on the ground. A faint, sickly green hue tinged the man’s pale face. He lay with his eyes closed, appearing to be without breath.
"Sir, sir..." Ning Qing cautiously crawled closer, her trembling hands reaching out to gently shake him. Tears streamed down her face as she pleaded, "Are you dead? Please don't die. No..."
This was her first encounter with a situation so close to death. She was crying from sheer terror. He had seemed perfectly fine moments before; how could this have happened...
"Stop shaking me. I'm not dead," the man murmured, his lips barely moving, his voice incredibly weak yet remarkably calm.
Ning Qing stared, astonished. She hastily wiped away her tears and complained with a pout, "If you weren't dead, why didn't you say so earlier? You nearly gave me a heart attack!"
"You're quite timid now. Weren't you incredibly brave just moments ago?" the man smirked faintly.
"I am brave!" Ning Qing retorted, her spirit momentarily rekindled. She retrieved a white handkerchief from her pocket and carefully applied pressure to his bleeding abdomen.
The man kept his eyes half-closed, yet he could perceive the delicate beauty of the girl's face. Her eyelashes, glistening with unshed tears, fluttered like a butterfly's wings.
"Then why were you panting and sitting on the ground?"
"Because I ran so fast! I was worried you might die!" Ning Qing then looked at the man, adding, "You can't keep bleeding like this. Those men in black should be long gone by now. Let me take you to the hospital."
"It's alright. My people are here."
Just then, a Land Rover screeched to a halt in the middle of the road. The car door swung open, and two men emerged, pushing aside the foliage. They approached the injured man and greeted him with deference, "Young Master..." They assisted him to his feet with evident respect.
Ning Qing released her hold, recognizing that these were the individuals who would now attend to him. She stepped back, allowing them to take over.
"What's your name?" The injured man turned back before departing, his eyes now fully open.
Ning Qing was momentarily speechless. His eyes were incredibly deep and beautiful, the clear distinction between black and white as striking as a starry night, glimmering like obsidian—truly resplendent.
Catching herself losing her composure, Ning Qing quickly regained her demeanor. She stood up and replied with a hint of embarrassment, "...Ning Qing, which means beautiful woman."
The injured man remained expressionless, appearing as if he were naturally stoic. He regarded her briefly before entering the Land Rover.
The Land Rover then sped away swiftly.
Ning Qing watched until the vehicle was out of sight before letting her gaze fall. She looked down at the bloodstain on her hand, feeling as though she had just emerged from a vivid dream.
Suddenly, her mind turned to her handkerchief.
Just before the man had left, her grip had loosened, and the handkerchief had been taken by him.
The man's eyes flashed in her mind again, and her heart began to race. She shook her head vigorously, attempting to clear her thoughts. Then, with a sudden cry of "Ah!", she leaped up and started running.
“Shit. What about my date?”
“Xu Junxi, wait for me!”
