My Dangerous Billionaire Husband Chapter 1 - Saving Someone’s Life (I)

~3 minute read · 689 words

The winter in Nangong was marked by extreme bleakness and desolation. A biting wind stung the flesh, and footsteps on the dry, frosty road produced faint squeaking sounds.

Ning Qing, clad in a white down jacket, traversed the road. She possessed fair skin, silken black hair, sparkling eyes, and a radiant smile. She repeatedly exhaled through her rosy lips, attempting to warm her hands.

Even such a frigid day could not diminish her cheerful disposition. She was on her way to a date.

This was her inaugural date subsequent to turning eighteen, and it was with Xu Junxi.

Having grown up together, they were as inseparable as peas in a pod. The air was thick with the scent of young love. It was only yesterday that Xu Junxi finally confessed his affections and invited her to a park.

She had been more than delighted to accept.

Recalling his sunny and warm countenance, she curved her lips into a sweet smile and hastened her steps.

Abruptly, a stumbling man emerged from a corner, colliding with her shoulder and tumbling to the ground.

Slightly shaken, Ning Qing looked down at the man.

He appeared to be in his mid-to-late twenties. His face was sharply defined, his eyebrows resembled swords, and his nose was aquiline. Undeniably, he was the most handsome man Ning Qing had ever encountered.

He was attired in a black wool coat and a thin, navy V-neck sweater. One of his hands was pressed against his bleeding abdomen; it was evident he was severely wounded.

“Sir, are you alright?” Ning Qing inquired, squatting down. “You’ve been injured. I’ll summon an ambulance.”

The man could barely pry his eyes open, his face ashen from significant blood loss. He grimaced and shook his head, “No... some people are pursuing me...”

At that precise moment, Ning Qing detected hurried footsteps accompanied by a low male voice. “Quickly! We must eliminate him today!”

Could they intend to murder him?

Ning Qing bit her lip and, with considerable effort, shifted the injured man into the thicket bordering the road. “Sir, please conceal yourself here for a short while. I shall attempt to divert them.”

“Don’t leave...” He attempted to motion her to stay her departure. Yet, the young woman moved with the swiftness of a rabbit, leaving behind only a hazy yet captivating image.

Ning Qing positioned herself on the road, and shortly thereafter, a group of men dressed in black materialized. They exuded a menacing aura. Upon spotting her, they gruffly inquired, “Hey, young lady. Did you happen to see an injured man pass this way?”

Ning Qing subtly and naturally tucked one hand into the pocket of her down jacket, her expression betraying no hint of alarm. With her other hand, she gestured forward, stating, “I observed a man walking in that direction just moments ago.”

The men in black exchanged glances. Their resolve was to kill a thousand innocents rather than let their quarry escape. This young woman appeared somewhat suspicious, and they reached a silent accord to eliminate her as a potential obstacle.

Ning Qing sensed their somber scrutiny. One of them even began to advance towards her...

At this critical juncture, a sequence of melodious chimes emanated from her pocket. She retrieved her phone and answered.

“Hello, Junxi... I’m currently on Fumin Road... You’ll be here in a minute?... Alright, I shall await you at the bus stop.”

Ning Qing concluded the call. Without even acknowledging the men, she crossed the road and took up a position at the bus stop, calmly awaiting her date.

The men in black conferred again. The girl's composed and natural demeanor seemed to have allayed their suspicions. With her innocent visage, she did not appear to be fabricating anything. She tilted her head, offered a smile, and waved her arms at a man in a suit who was approaching her. “Hi, Junxi. I’ve arrived.”

The arrival of this man completely extinguished any lingering thoughts the men had of harming Ning Qing. Without further hesitation, they rapidly pursued the direction Ning Qing had indicated.
