MIGHT AS WELL BE OP Chapter 1382: Not A Political Position
Previously on MIGHT AS WELL BE OP...
The others thought about Jerry’s words and nodded, as it made perfect sense. Due to the talk about the Above Disciple Ranking, the four of them couldn’t help but think about the other Above Disciples who had died at the Sleeping Hollow.
They could only hope they didn’t die a not-so-painful death, despite knowing how naive that hope was, as no death within the Sleeping Hollow would be gentle or anything of the sort.
At the moment, they could only keep the memories of them alive in their minds. All of them might not have been friends, but they were all disciples of the Null Sect, and nothing was going to change that.
"Do you think the Sect Master is going to promote some of the Core Disciples that have been eyeing the position of the Above Disciples to our rank due to the mountains and hills being empty?"
Tory Hale asked, his tone calm, his eyes shifting in the direction of the Above Disciple Area as he gazed at the mountains and hills the dead Above Disciples occupied.
There was silence for a moment, as none of them could answer, as they couldn’t predict what someone as old and powerful as the Sect Master would do.
"He wouldn’t," Anthony answered calmly without a change in expression.
"While I won’t say I know how special and personal the Above Disciple title is to you guys since you guys have held that title for a couple of years and feel immense pride in it, but at the end of the day, the Above Disciple position isn’t a political position. If no one from the Core Disciples is worthy, then the Sect Master wouldn’t promote them."
He explained calmly with a calm expression. Just like he had said, he wouldn’t understand their pride and how special it felt to them, after all, he had barely spent four days or so as an Above Disciple. To him, it was just a title, nothing more.
But that didn’t mean he looked down on the Above Disciples just because he thought this way. He, too, had pride in some things, like his own strength and cheat, for example. He was also proud of how far he had come without turning into some Hero or arrogant Young Master, despite possessing the strength to be arrogant.
"You’re right, the Sect Master wouldn’t do such a thing."
Tory Hale stated, a smile appearing on his lips as he tore his gaze away from the mountains and hills.
"Personally, I kind of feel bad for their personal servants."
Lora Vake stated, drawing everyone’s mind in that direction.
The personal servants of the dead Above Disciples had spent years enjoying resources that would have never reached them, some of them breaking through in Cultivation ranks and accessing Law Notes or Law Lands they should have never seen.
And not only that, they must have suppressed one or two Outer Disciples with their invisible status. Although their status was that of a servant, they weren’t mere servants. But now, they were one.
But, although they were now normal slaves again, it didn’t change the fact that the power and progress they made under their various masters remained, after all, it didn’t suddenly vanish. So, if any other servant wanted to settle old scores, they must first make sure they could defeat them; if not, they would get beaten up instead.
As for the Outer Disciples they might have suppressed, this was different, as servants didn’t have the right to raise arms against disciples who were practically their masters. So, even if these personal servants might be stronger than some Outer Disciples, they wouldn’t be able to do anything or retaliate as these Outer Disciples beat them up.
And the worst part? It just wouldn’t be Outer Disciples and servants coming for payback; everyone would. Everyone whom these personal servants had flaunted their invisible status to and oppressed would be back.
These personal servants had the option to run... if they could, after all, the sect wouldn’t expend resources chasing mere servants who had nothing they wanted or cared about.
Yes, the servants would have cultivation manuals and techniques in their minds, but so what?
Just because they ran away with some basic low-grade techniques and manuals didn’t mean the Null Sect’s secrets or whatever were suddenly leaked.
Jerry, Chu Feng, Lora Vake, and Tory Hale made mental notes to warn their personal servants when they returned, after all, just as their fellow Above Disciples had died, it could be them next time. So it was best to advise these servants of theirs, but whether they listened or not was up to them.
After all, if they, the Above Disciples, later died and their personal servants were later bullied, they could only blame themselves for not listening.
Lora Vake turned to Anthony for a moment, then smiled as she spoke.
"So, Anthony, since you are already so powerful, it means that The Lover Of Death’s treasures and whatnot don’t interest you, as you can just create your own treasures with a thought, right?"
She asked, her eyes meeting Anthony’s face calmly.
Anthony turned his eyes towards her, wondering what this woman was talking about.
Seeing that Anthony didn’t speak, Lora Vake simply continued.
"When the Sect Master and Core Elders convert ninety percent of your treasures to contribution points, can I get them? And also the ten percent of the treasures that you keep if you don’t need them for anything?"
She asked shamelessly without breaking eye contact.
She was merely shooting her shot here; there was no harm in asking. What’s the worst that could happen? At most, she would be called greedy, then Anthony would say no, nothing more. After that, she would just face forward and continue talking with the others as they all waited to be called into the Sect Master’s hall.
Anthony stared at Lora Vake. He hadn’t expected her to be so bold and greedy. He truly did not see it coming. But at the same time, it made sense, as the entire Cultivation World and Path to the Peak functioned on greed and resources. One had to be a bit greedy to fight for resources.
