MIGHT AS WELL BE OP Chapter 1302: Merfolk City
Previously on MIGHT AS WELL BE OP...
As Anthony sank deeper into the dark ocean, it began to clear as the darkness vanished ever so slowly, revealing a beautiful blue oceanic depth like any ocean out there. The water wasn’t poisonous or harmful, just calm and gentle.
Although Anthony was underwater, he had no trouble breathing. Although he had no gills like a fish, his Physique bypassed such needs.
’The Lover Of Death is truly a smart man. Hiding the safest place underneath the ocean itself is indeed genius,’ he thought to himself as he sank deeper.
Many geniuses would have chosen to run across the ocean, hence burning Origin Essence and stamina. Only a few might have figured it out like Anthony.
He looked around, seeing various types of aquatic life swimming past him: various fishes, octopuses, and the likes. After admiring them for a while, Anthony decided to get on with what he had come to do, which was basically treasure hunting, the entire purpose of entering The Sleeping Hollow.
Anthony looked around for a moment, his eyes stopping in a particular direction as he could sense the Law Of Water, Law Of Healing, and a few other Laws related to water humming heavily in that direction. Anthony didn’t need to think to know that some settlement, or at least something, existed there.
With that conclusion, he shot forward, his body tearing through the water like an eel. Along the way, he encountered various monsters that moved to kill him, but Anthony didn’t spare them a glance, as a thought from him was all that was needed for the Law Of Water to erase them. While the ocean was their home turf, unfortunately, that was useless against Anthony.
Within a couple of minutes, Anthony arrived at what seemed like an entire aquatic city. He could see various sea creatures swimming around, and the moment they saw him, they immediately frowned as they wondered what a Human was doing near their city. But they ignored him, and Anthony also ignored them as he swam deeper into the city.
As he got to a certain area, the water around him instantly froze as though halting him in place. Anthony simply came to a stop of his own will, his sky-blue eyes turning in another direction where three Mermen holding tridents could be seen, their scales shining as they stared at him.
"Human... turn around. This is the land of the Merfolk. You aren’t welcome here," one of them stated, his muscles bulky.
Anthony looked at the three of them for a moment, then asked, "What is the greatest treasure here?"
But the three didn’t answer his question. They simply pointed their tridents at him, their expressions flat and unsurprised by his presence and arrival.
"I see... it seems whenever The Sleeping Hollow opened in the past, some geniuses managed to find this place." His sky-blue eyes left them as they focused on the most beautiful building within the entire city. "But it seems it has never been conquered," he added in finality.
The moment those words left his lips, the three Mermen shot forward with their tridents, their swimming speed fast as the three of them unleashed a pincer attack. But Anthony had no time to entertain them. He had already had his fill of fighting mobs earlier.
His hand moved towards the katana hanging on his waist. He held the hilt for a split second, then let go as though he had changed his mind about attacking. The next moment, the three Mermen felt pain tear through their bodies before everything went dark, their bodies turning into thousands of pieces of diced flesh.
Anthony simply shot forward as he raced towards the high-rise buildings. An alarm seemed to blare through the surrounding water, announcing the deaths of the three guards, and with the alarm came millions of Mermen and Mermaids, all swimming towards him with their tridents in hand.
They didn’t need to ask any questions. The moment they got close, they simply attacked. But Anthony spared them not even a single glance. His Law Of Water simply hummed, and the ocean, their own home, became their burial ground and the cause of their deaths.
Their bodies exploded into showers of blood and meat paste as Anthony simply caused every drop of water within their bodies to explode. Explosions coursed through the ocean, causing massive disturbances and tidal waves throughout the surrounding waters. The water became stained with the color and smell of blood.
But Anthony never looked back. The moment he got close to the tallest building within the Merfolk City, he simply teleported into the top floor. The moment he entered, a woman could be seen sitting with her legs crossed. She possessed a Human body, and her lower body wasn’t that of a fish like the others. She sat as though she had been waiting for him, as though she had experienced this particular scene, or moments like this, many times before.
Sensing Anthony teleport into her domain, she opened her closed eyes, her oceanic blue eyes meeting his sky-blue ones as she spoke.
"It seems it’s that time again, but this time, it’s a Human instead of an Anubari," she stated with a calm and bored expression.
Anthony didn’t say anything. His eyes simply shifted towards the shelves standing behind her, then his gaze turned back to her. From her words, Anthony understood that the last time The Sleeping Hollow had opened up, someone from the Anubari race must have invaded the Merfolk City, and without a doubt, they had died.
"You killed millions of my people. Even your death won’t do this time," the woman stated as she rose to her feet, her chair sliding backwards against the floor.
And indeed, Anthony had killed millions of Mermen and Mermaids. While it might have been a huge headache for another person, with his Embodiment-stage Law Of Water, it required nothing but a thought to wipe them all out.
"We can get started if you are done with your speech," Anthony stated indifferently. "If you knew they were weak, you shouldn’t have allowed them to attack. You should have attacked first to save your people, rather than blame me for sending them to their maker."
The woman smiled as she replied, "You underestimate our Master way too much, Human," her voice flat.
The moment those words left her lips, the millions of corpses and exploded body parts scattered throughout the Merfolk City started to regenerate. Some pieces of flesh that were as big as chunks returned to their bodies.
Anthony couldn’t help but turn as he watched the millions he had killed come back to life, their bodies perfectly healed as though he hadn’t killed them in the first place.
"Our Master is The Lover Of Death. Did you really think we were that easy to kill when we serve such a being?" the woman spoke again, the clothes she wore changing into what seemed to be a battle suit made of nothing but fish scales.
A golden trident appeared in her hands as her hair began to dance and her Origin Essence started to stir, various Laws humming around her body.
Anthony stopped staring at the resurrected Merfolk. He wasn’t really surprised. If someone like The Lover Of Death couldn’t at least bring weak people like the Merfolk back to life, then he would be an imposter.
