Mu Fan's dragon, Evil Wing, was hit by artillery fire from camouflaged "Black Wood Cannon Beasts." Seeing the danger, Mu Fan ordered Evil Wing to land and evade, causing the beasts' subsequent, powerful shots to miss. Evil Wing then fled, frustrating the Beast Controllers who had prepared the ambush. Basham, observing this, realized the elders had more cannon beasts than previously reported and grew resentful, intending to accelerate his return.
