Mated to the Triplet Alphas Chapter 4: Crash!
Previously on Mated to the Triplet Alphas...
Being among the very first arrivals at the triplet's grand birthday celebration venue, I observed the party staff, including caterers and the DJ, diligently preparing.
A heavy sigh escaped me as I watched the organized chaos unfold, yet a sense of pride swelled within me for orchestrating it all.
What possessed me to even consider skipping this event? I berated myself mentally for such a foolish notion.
Naturally, my presence was required for continued maid duties and to ensure the event's flawless execution.
The housekeeper had found me first thing this morning, burdening me with an extended list of responsibilities for the party.
“By order of the Luna,” she had stated.
I felt a surge of relief that the Luna herself hadn't sought me out. My primary goal was to evade their notice entirely.
However, evading the triplets was proving to be an insurmountable challenge; encountering them at the party seemed inevitable.
My sole hope lay in their being too engrossed to pay me any mind.
Their friends were expected, and so were their girlfriends. Such company, I hoped, would keep them occupied enough to ignore me.
The realization that I was the triplets' mate still felt unbelievable. Had fate truly turned against me so cruelly? Hadn't I endured enough hardship already in my life?
My gaze drifted towards the far end of the hall, where I discerned a figure watching me. I squinted, trying to get a clearer view.
‘Luna Evelyn!’ I exclaimed internally. And she was standing right beside Alpha Henry. He was here as well? My heart began to pound in my chest.
Had they already discovered my connection to the triplets? Was that the reason for their early arrival?
The thought of them punishing me for daring to tarnish their perfect bloodline sent a shiver down my spine. The retribution would undoubtedly be severe.
Luna Evelyn raised her hand, beckoning with a single finger. The command was unmistakable: ‘Come.’
A knot formed in my throat. ‘They’re going to tear me apart,’ I thought with dread.
Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to swallow and hurried toward her, offering a respectful bow. “H-hello, Luna. Good day, Alpha. I hadn’t realized you had arrived so soon.”
I held my breath, steeling myself for the inevitable reprimand.
“Are the preparations nearing completion?” she inquired sharply, bypasssing my greeting as was her habit.
“The what?” I stammered, unable to contain my surprise.
“Are you losing your hearing, girl?” she retorted.
“Y-Yes, ma’am. I mean, no, Luna,” I corrected myself swiftly. “Everything is proceeding as planned.” A wave of relief washed over me. They didn’t know yet!
She turned away without acknowledging my response and began conversing with her husband.
They commenced a leisurely stroll around the hall, observing the decorations with critical eyes. I remained still, awaiting their judgment.
“This is absolutely stunning,” Luna Evelyn finally declared.
Alpha Henry concurred with a nod. “The choice of a white and gold theme was indeed the best. It perfectly complements the triplets.”
“It exudes an air of royalty, precisely fitting for my darling boys,” Luna Evelyn added with a touch of adoration.
A deep blush crept onto my cheeks, pleased that my efforts were receiving such high praise. A faint smile touched my lips.
“I knew it was the best decision to have Jessie oversee the decorations,” Luna Evelyn suddenly remarked. “She did such a remarkable job.”
The smile vanished from my face. Jessie?
“We should certainly consider a generous reward for her efforts,” Alpha Henry replied. “Perhaps a gold necklace? Or maybe a designer handbag?”
My heart plummeted. I yearned to proclaim that the decorations were entirely my work. Jessie had played no part in it!
Yet, I dared not utter a single word. I suppressed my protest, a dull ache beginning to throb in my chest.
The absolute last thing I needed at this moment was to draw unnecessary attention to myself. Not until I could devise a solution to this predicament!
Abruptly, Luna Evelyn turned her attention back to me. “You are still here?” she demanded imperiously. “Do you not have tasks to attend to?”
“I apologize, Luna,” I quickly responded and hurried away. Glancing back, I saw them exiting together. I let out a breath of relief.
I made my way swiftly to the DJ booth. “Hello, did you receive the list of preferred songs for the triplets that I sent over?”
He nodded. “Yes, I have it. However, it wasn’t specified if there’s a particular order you wish for them to be played.”
I moved closer to him to review the list together and establish a suitable sequence.
“Girls, she’s here! I told you we’d find her,” a voice suddenly interjected.
Whirling around, I was met with the sight of Melanie, Annie, and Kira, their faces contorted with cold fury.
A wave of dread washed over me. ‘What could they possibly want now?’ I wondered.
“You utter fool, what have you done!?” Melanie snarled, her voice dripping with venom.
“What are you talking about?” I shot back. “I haven’t done anything. I have no idea what you’re referring to.”
“Don’t try to deceive us, you lowly maid. Tell us the truth!” Kira snapped, advancing towards me menacingly.
Instinctively, I recoiled. “What truth? I genuinely have no clue what you are talking about.”
“I knew she’d just resort to lying!” Annie declared. She grabbed my arm, her fingers digging in with considerable force.
I cried out in pain. “What are you doing!? Let go of me this instant!”
“The triplets have ended their relationships with us,” she snapped, her grip tightening. “We know you played a role in this! What did you say to them?”
My eyes widened in disbelief. “They did what!? Why on earth did they break up with you all?”
While the triplets were known for their revolving door of women, they typically dedicated at least three months to each relationship!
Yet, their connections with Melanie, Annie, and Kira had barely lasted a month and a half.
What could have prompted the triplets to end their relationships? Could it possibly be... because of me? Surely that couldn't be right!
Were they truly taking this whole mate concept so seriously, to the point of severing ties with their girlfriends over me? It was almost unbelievable.
"The very instant they sided with you yesterday instead of us, I just knew you were rotten to the core," Kira spat out venomously.
"Precisely! So don't play dumb, you manipulative witch! We're fully aware of everything!" Melanie shrieked at me.
A jolt went through my chest, my heart leaping into my throat. What could she possibly mean by that? Had they revealed to the girls that I was their mate? A wave of panic washed over me.
"We know the triplets have found their mate!" Kira confirmed, her words confirming my deepest fears.
Breathing became an impossible task.
She seized my shoulder, shaking me with such violence that it felt as though my very brain was rattling loose within my skull.
"Tell us who she is! Tell us, you wretch!" she screamed, tears streaming down her face.
Wait! I blinked, processing her words slowly. They had no clue who the triplets' destined mate actually was yet. My secret remained secure!
My immediate thought was to escape this situation as swiftly as possible.
"Listen, ladies! I swear I know nothing about the triplets breaking up with you! I haven't even spoken to them since the last time you saw me," I pleaded, my voice trembling.
Why wouldn't they believe my earnest words? I was just as blindsided by this news as they claimed to be.
"We do not believe a word you say!" Kira bellowed. Raising her hand, she swung it, striking me hard across the face.
Her open palm connected with my cheek with a sharp crack. The sheer force of the blow sent me staggering backward uncontrollably.
I collided hard against something solid and frigid before I could regain my balance. A deafening crash echoed as the object shattered on the floor behind me.
Spinning around, I found myself gazing at the fragmented remains of an exquisite glass sculpture, valued at a staggering $500,000. It was a special commission by Luna Evelyn herself, intended as a birthday gift for the triplets.
My heart felt like it had ceased to beat entirely.
