Shi Tianjue, Qin Shaobai, and Shi Aoju meticulously cover up the murder of another assassin, burying the body to avoid trouble and to provoke Bei Mo. Qi Jingren confronts Qin Shaobai about the danger, but he reassures her of his love and commitment. She worries for his safety, vowing revenge if he dies.

Meanwhile, Bei Mo was consumed by incandescent rage within his home. He punctuated his fury by slamming his fist onto the table, causing the teacups to dance precariously, a sight that rendered the nearby servants breathless with apprehension.

"They have the audacity to assassinate my men!"

The individuals dispatched earlier had vanished for three agonizing hours, only for their lifeless forms to be unearthed in the desolate wilderness. To strike down his followers was an unmistakable act of provocation! To tolerate such an affront would be a betrayal of his very manhood.

"Mo’er, my son, I believe it would be wise to let this matter rest. The Princess harbors no affection for you; one cannot compel that which is fundamentally unyielding."

The speaker, Bei Mo’s father, Bei Lang, was a man of perhaps sixty years, his hair streaked with gray, and his face a tapestry of deep wrinkles. Occupying the head seat at the table, he idly toyed with a cup of translucent jade, his words imbued with the earnestness of paternal counsel.

"Father, we cannot simply let this insult slide," Bei Mo retorted. "My pursuit of her has spanned many years, and I have invested substantially, yet she refuses to grant me even a passing glance. I absolutely cannot endure this humiliation. While it's true I admire her, my primary objective is to leverage her extraordinary status to solidify our Bei Family's standing. Furthermore, Father, you must acknowledge that your retirement looms in a few years, and the position of General will subsequently be vacated. Presently, the President's intentions are evident; he seeks to elevate other capable individuals, not me. Should this transpire, our Bei Family’s influence will be imperiled. We have incurred the displeasure of numerous individuals and amassed formidable adversaries over these years; once we lose our protection, what recourse will we possess?"

"While your concerns are valid, a coerced union yields no sweetness," Bei Lang lamented with a sigh. "You are also aware that the Princess is betrothed to the Shi Family; even if she severs ties with other suitors, we stand no chance against their might. Mo’er, it is best to relinquish this pursuit sooner rather than later."

"What is the Shi Family, beyond a modicum of wealth?" Bei Mo scoffed, a sound of pure disdain. "I, on my own, could dismantle the Shi Family."

"Mo’er, certain pronouncements should never be uttered lightly," Bei Lang cautioned, his demeanor shifting to one of stern gravity as he spoke in a low, resonant voice. "Do not underestimate the Shi Family; on the surface, they may appear as mere businessmen, but their underlying foundation is one of immense power."

"How powerful are they?" Bei Mo inquired.

"Power beyond comprehension," Bei Lang responded with a profound sigh. He fixed his gaze upon Bei Mo and continued, "Mo’er, perhaps you have encountered mention of an organization known as the 'Charming Nine Sect.'"

"Charming Nine Sect?" Bei Mo indeed recalled hearing of this entity, yet he had never afforded it his serious attention. Consequently, he lacked familiarity and pressed further, "What of this organization?"

"It is an assassin collective," Bei Lang stated gravely. "Two decades ago, this organization boasted an army of hundreds of thousands of assassins; by the present day, their killing capacity has at least tripled. This signifies that the Charming Nine Sect now commands over three hundred thousand assassins, each one an apex predator within their deadly craft."

As he uttered these words, Bei Lang’s expression grew even more somber. "The progenitor of the Charming Nine Sect is Shi Mei, the biological brother of Shi Aoju’s father, and another formidable pillar of the Shi Family. To this day, he remains the sole individual capable of challenging the nation's authority. Therefore, in comparison to the Shi Family, our Bei Family is but an insignificant speck."

Bei Mo lapsed into silence. Though he had not personally investigated this matter, the earnestness etched upon his father’s countenance was sufficient testament to the veracity of his words, utterly devoid of deception.
