Qin Shaobai teased Qi Jingren while feeding her steak. When she tried to leave for the kitchen, he pulled her into a passionate kiss against the wall, despite her mentioning her aunt. Both acknowledged their feelings for each other before their kiss deepened.

Qi Jingren's phone let out an untimely ring. Qin Shaobai had just pinned her against the kitchen counter, and before he could escalate things, she'd managed to pull her phone from her pocket.

Qin Shaobai was compelled to release her. He leaned against the adjacent wall, his gaze intensely fixed on her as she regained her composure, then answered the call with a simple, "Hello."

"I warned you, stay away from other men, or I'll end his life." The moment the voice on the other end spoke, Qi Jingren instantly recognized it. No one besides Bei Mo would dare to issue such a threat with such blatant disrespect.

"If you dare take his life, I'll take yours," Qi Jingren replied, her tone unfaltering despite the threat.

"Take my life?" Bei Mo burst into laughter. "My Bei Family's influence might not be boundless, but even the President shows us a certain deference."

"Preposterous," Qi Jingren scoffed. "My father is the President, a man of real authority. Why would he fear your Bei Family?"

"He doesn't fear us, but he wouldn't dare cross us. Do you know why?" Bei Mo's laughter intensified. "Because your father owes my father his life. When he was in peril, my father risked everything to save him. Without my father's intervention, your father would have perished long ago, and he wouldn't hold his current position."

Unaware of this history between her father and the Bei Family, Qi Jingren had never comprehended her father's apprehension towards them until this revelation.

"So what?" she inquired coolly.

"Nothing much. I simply want you to understand that even if I were to kill someone, no law could touch me. I have my father's protection, and my father has your father's backing. Jingren, do you grasp my meaning?" The confidence in his voice was absolute.

"You can try," Qi Jingren countered. "If you kill someone, someone will protect you. Likewise, if I kill someone, someone will protect me. The key difference, however, is that I can kill you, while you cannot harm me in the slightest."

"Precisely," Bei Mo continued his amusement. "So, my next move will be to eliminate the man with you. Then, I'll await your attempt to avenge him, leading to our inevitable confrontation. The prospect of losing to you... that feeling must be incredibly exhilarating." He deliberately clicked his tongue twice as he finished, the sound audible to Qin Shaobai.

Qin Shaobai's brows furrowed. He promptly snatched the phone from Qi Jingren, brought it to his ear, and stated with icy calm, "If you have the courage of a man, don't hide. That's contemptible. If you wish to kill me, I'll give you the opportunity. Tonight at nine, West City Pier, Warehouse 17."

In that instant, Qi Jingren swiftly retrieved the phone, terminated the call, and tossed it aside. She then met Qin Shaobai's gaze, remarking tonelessly, "He's deranged; you shouldn't engage in his games."

"Whether I can or cannot, I must try to find out," Qin Shaobai replied, his expression unusually grave as he looked at her. After a brief silence, he continued, "Qi Jingren, listen carefully. I would rather die than let you suffer any harm because of me. A man must bear his own responsibilities; a man who requires a woman's protection is no man at all."

"Who says you're not?" Qi Jingren insisted firmly. "I say you are, and therefore, you are."
