Capítulo 8331: Island master (1)
Du Wan Sha moved with incredible speed. Once the strategy was finalized, he immediately took action. His first task was to assemble Guna and the other Island Lords who originally hailed from the West and Northwest Sea regions. These individuals had refused to join the rebellion led by Bai Xin and the others, choosing instead to flee back to the Blood Slaughter Sect. Every one of them had arrived wounded, their home islands decimated. Their loyalty to the Blood Slaughter Sect was beyond reproach.
Among this group, Guna stood out as the most formidable. While others had barely escaped the clutches of various Island Lords, Guna had survived a direct confrontation with Bai Xin himself. Despite his immense strength, the slaughter of his people and the loss of his island had been a devastating blow to his spirit.
Upon meeting them, Du Wan Sha revealed his plan: several islands in the West and Northwest Sea regions would be merged to form massive new territories. These expanded islands would be under their command, bolstered by powerful Masters sent by the Sect for protection. However, these specific islands were to be situated on the outer edges of the two sea regions, serving as a primary line of defense.
Guna and his companions saw no reason to refuse Du Wan Sha’s proposal. Du Wan Sha even suggested that by merging the islands, the existing island curses might become even more potent. Given that their new jurisdictions would be far larger than their previous ones, they accepted the offer readily.
With their agreement secured, a satisfied Du Wan Sha ordered immediate preparations. While the physical merging of islands was straightforward, it required a formal ceremony—a sacrifice to the heavens. Only after this ritual could the integration be finalized. Ha Jing was appointed to personally oversee the proceedings. Consequently, nearly 3,000 islands across the two sea regions were consolidated into 1,000 larger landmasses.
Guna and the others relocated to these new territories. Simultaneously, the Sect organized management for the remaining islands; for instance, groups like the three Island Lords of Blood Drop Island were assigned to govern new locations. Since the Blood Slaughter Sect possessed many such figures, the thousand new islands were quickly staffed by powerful experts of the Island Lord level.
Beyond these mergers, there were several independent islands situated at the very edge of the two seas. Following Zhao Hai’s advice, Du Wan Sha did not hesitate to appoint several Refinement Realm experts from the Sect to manage these outposts. These individuals were the most promising candidates to eventually become true Island Lords. By granting them management rights now, the Sect hoped that once they achieved the rank of Island Lord, they would merge their future personal islands with the ones they currently governed.
The appointees were thrilled, viewing this as a massive windfall. Owning an island would effectively double their future territory and provide them with twice the number of faithful slaves. Their excitement was palpable.
One person, however, was an exception to the standard arrangement: Zhao Hai. While other Refinement Realm cultivators were given management rights alongside a framework of True Disciples acting as Elders and supervisors, Zhao Hai’s situation was unique. The Sect intended to establish a structure for the others, but Zhao Hai was granted total autonomy.
The Sect would not interfere with Zhao Hai’s island, nor would they station anyone there. He was provided with a faithful slave, but not a single peripheral disciple was assigned to his land. Zhao Hai was free to govern as he pleased. If he required manpower, he had to recruit from the Sect or find rogue cultivators on his own. Although the Sect would provide an annual allocation of medicinal pills and magical artifacts—similar to other islands—no personnel were provided directly. He had to build his own force from scratch.
To outsiders, this appeared to be a deliberate hardship. As a Legacy Disciple, how could he possibly recruit effectively? If he hired powerful experts, he might lose control; if he hired the weak, his island would be defenseless. Furthermore, the cost of supporting a crew with limited Sect resources seemed like an impossible burden. It looked as though the Sect was setting him up for failure.
Despite this, many were deeply envious. An island entirely under one’s own command—a private sovereign territory—was the ultimate dream for many True Disciples. Zhao Hai was now the master of his own domain.
Naturally, this sparked intense jealousy. Yet, the critics remained silent, as they could not argue against the Sect’s logic. Zhao Hai’s rewards were justified by his monumental contribution: stealing the Divine Knife. Such a feat earned him the right to his own island. Thus, despite the bitterness of others, the matter was settled. Zhao Hai officially became the weakest Island Lord in the history of the Blood Sea Realm.
Meanwhile, Zhao Hai stood within the Temple of the House of Three Talents on Blood Drop Island. Lei Gang and two others sat across from him. With a wide grin, Lei Gang teased, "Not bad, Little Hai. You are now an Island Lord—the weakest one in history, but an Island Lord nonetheless. Hahahaha, how does it feel?" Lei Gang’s jovial mood was evident.
Zhao Hai responded with a wry smile. "Master, please don't tease me. I truly didn't expect the Grand Elder to take such an action. It was quite a surprise." While Zhao Hai had anticipated receiving an island, the level of freedom granted by the Grand Elder had indeed exceeded his expectations.
He kept his deeper thoughts to himself. It wouldn't do to admit he had been calculating this outcome from the start. Admitting he had schemed for an island would be perceived poorly, so he maintained his facade of humble surprise, even if others suspected the truth.
Lei Gang dismissed the formality with a wave of his hand. "Regardless of how it happened, you have your own territory now, and the Sect has given you total reign. See that you manage it well. Furthermore, your Third Uncle Master has been moved to the West Ocean, quite close to your new home. Your island is named Blood Gale Island. Should problems arise, seek out your Third Uncle. In fact, we will be spending significant time at Blood Wind Island ourselves; you are welcome to visit us there."
Zhao Hai bowed in acknowledgement. Lei Gang then fixed him with a serious look. "You have been studying the cultivation techniques of the Spiritual Array Sect. Tell me, how is your progress?" Lei Gang was aware of Zhao Hai’s interest in their methods and his research into metal puppets, but he trusted Zhao Hai’s judgment enough not to interfere.
Zhao Hai lowered his voice and replied, "The techniques of the Spiritual Array Sect are not overly complex. I have already grasped the fundamentals. Combining their methods with my existing knowledge of arrays, I have made significant headway. Master, you need not worry." In truth, Zhao Hai had already mastered and integrated these techniques into his own path, but he kept the full extent of his genius hidden to avoid causing a shock.
Lei Gang nodded. "The defensive formation of Blood Gale Island is currently non-functional. You should be aware of this. When you have the time, you must restore it." Since Blood Wind Island would serve as a secondary home for them, ensuring its protection was a priority.
"Understood," Zhao Hai replied. "I will head to Blood Gale Island shortly to inspect the grounds and begin the restoration of the defensive array." Such a task was trivial for him, and he accepted it without hesitation.
Lei Gang leaned in, his voice deepening. "You’ve been dissecting those metal puppets for some time. Any breakthroughs? Your trick of transforming that massive Copper Palace into a Great Sword was impressive. You still have that sword, don't you? Tell me, can such a thing truly be classified as a metal puppet?"
Zhao Hai shook his head. "No, Master. Metal puppets and the Copper Palace are different entities. Standard metal puppets only require specific arrays and energy lines to function as combat units. The Copper Palace, however, is more like a different form of life. To achieve that level of movement, thousands of arrays must be engraved and linked via energy lines. Most crucially, it requires souls. Every array must be inhabited by a soul, which is then fused with the energy lines to provide the necessary power. I used the souls I gathered from the Spiritual Array Sect and the Sea Union to fuel the Copper Palace. I am attempting to replicate the process, but as for standard metal puppets, I can produce them now, though their power is currently limited. Actually, Master, I have a question for you."
Lei Gang watched him closely. "What is it? Speak freely." He understood Zhao Hai’s explanation; while replicating a Copper Palace was nearly impossible, producing functional metal puppets was still a valuable asset. He was curious about what his disciple needed.
Zhao Hai continued, "Master, the Sect and the individual islands all have their own Weapon Refinery Halls. Success is never 100% guaranteed in smithing. I want to know what happens to the failed attempts—the destroyed or damaged magical artifacts that are no longer fit for combat. How are they disposed of?"
Lei Gang looked puzzled by the inquiry. "Why do you ask? Those items are useless junk that can't be repaired. Naturally, they are simply thrown away."
