The girl, overwhelmed and unable to articulate her feelings, found comfort in Jax's embrace, finally releasing years of pain. Jax gave her a new name, Tempris, symbolizing her control over her own destiny. Upon reaching a cliff overlooking a city, they were shocked to see statues of their ancestors, rulers of a long-vanished empire.

Jax blinked, his eyes wide with disbelief. "What??"

Evangeline maintained her composure, while Delphine, standing beside her, appeared on the verge of a panic attack. "I fear we have been transported to the past."

Lavinia’s eyes began to sparkle with an inappropriate excitement for their current predicament. "You're not jesting, are you? I must find my ancestors immediately! I'll approach them directly, introduce myself as a seer, drop a few bits of future knowledge to establish my credibility, and then inform them that in six centuries, they will produce a child of unparalleled brilliance!"

She practically vibrated with anticipation. "I'll ensure it's inscribed in the family testament! The first rule: never deny Lavinia's requests. The second rule: triple her allowance!"

Delphine retorted through clenched teeth, "Be quiet, you utterly useless fool. You comprehend nothing. What if we are truly in the past, and every action we take irrevocably alters our present? What if, upon our return to our own time, no one remembers us? What if we cease to exist altogether due to the butterfly effect?"

Lavinia's initial enthusiasm evaporated as if a plug had been pulled, her face falling. "No... Father. Mother. Eldest Sister." She swallowed hard. "We are in deep trouble."

Delphine’s hissing gaze snapped towards Jax. "If this unbelievable situation is true, then this individual stands squarely in the path of altering everything. We've also investigated his background. Not only is he a nobody, but he lacks any discernible lineage."

Her voice grew sharp. "He has been deceitful from the outset. Remember his claim of people awaiting him in the present? Yet, in reality, there is no one. And how could a monstrosity like him possibly have connections?"

Lavinia looked genuinely distressed by Delphine's words. "Delphine, you shouldn't speak so rudely. Your interpretation might be flawed. Perhaps this is merely a simulated reality constructed for us."

Delphine shot back instantly, "Are you still attempting to shield him? How naive are all of you to be blind to the obvious truth? He is some lunatic who thrives on chaos. Or perhaps he's affiliated with a cult anticipating the world's end."

Jax simply stared at her, his silence more potent than any words. His eyes conveyed a stark warning: utter another syllable, and it would be the last sound she ever made.

Delphine showed no fear. Instead, a sneer twisted her lips as she declared, "Am I mistaken, Professor? Now that your scheme is exposed, why don't you just—"

Before the next word could escape her lips, before Jax could even shift an inch, a beam of emerald light descended from the heavens, striking Delphine directly.

Jax glanced to his side. There floated Tempris, levitating in the air, streams of mana spiraling around her diminutive form. She looked absolutely furious. The rage contorting her small features clearly signaled an intent to commit murder.

Under the impact of what seemed like divine retribution, or rather, a child's wrath, Delphine shrieked in torment. Her skin began to slough off in seconds, layer by painful layer, the green light searing her as if it were potent acid.

Tempris's voice boomed from above, laced with fury that vibrated in every syllable. "He is not a monster or a nobody! He is a good person! And if you ever utter hateful remarks about him again, I will silence you permanently!"

Abruptly, the light dissipated. Athanasia had approached the group and raised her hand towards the writhing Delphine. Instantly, the burns vanished, her skin regenerating as if no injury had ever occurred, leaving not a single scar. It was as if nothing had transpired.

Delphine collapsed to her knees, gasping for breath. "See?! This girl is a menace! Who knows what she might do as she matures or gains control of her power! We must neutralize this threat to safeguard the future of our world!"

Jax looked down at her with cold indifference. "A monster? Because all I perceive is that she is the one who saved you from me. Had she not intervened, I would have undoubtedly dealt with you myself. And believe me, no healing magic could have reattached your severed head to your body."

Athanasia completely disregarded the escalating argument. She moved towards Tempris, who had returned to the ground after her magic was neutralized. Reaching out a hand towards the child.

But before contact could be made, another hand intercepted hers. Jax had seized Athanasia's wrist mid-gesture.

His voice left no room for ambiguity. "I strongly advise you to retract that hand. Should you attempt to move it even an inch forward, I will not hesitate to make it your most profound regret."

Athanasia glanced down at the hand gripping her wrist. A flicker of disgust crossed her features. He was the first male to ever dare touch her in such a manner. Yet, she regained her composure, withdrew her wrist, and emitted a soft chuckle.

"Are you truly attempting to intimidate me?"

Jax's hand drifted towards the hilt of his sword. That was his response.

Athanasia’s amusement didn’t fade. "You truly have lost your mind. But rest assured, I have no intention of harming the child. I merely have some questions, and she is the one who possesses the answers." Her voice grew steady, adopting a more measured tone. "I ascertained our temporal displacement to the past from the outset. The mana density, the very atmosphere – no illusion, virtual reality, or conjured space could ever replicate this with such fidelity. Yet, numerous enigmas about this era still beckon my curiosity, and she holds a crucial key." She met Jax’s gaze. "Therefore, permit me to delve into her mind." Then, her tone deepened, and the surrounding air grew heavy with potent, suffocating magic that bore down on everyone. "Do not impede me. Should you refuse, I will be compelled to forcefully remove you from my path." Jax contemplated for several moments, then glanced down at Tempris, who stood gripping the fabric of his pants behind his leg. He spoke with caution. "I wish to avoid an unnecessary conflict. I have my own matters to resolve." Turning towards Athanasia, he advanced until his face was mere inches from hers, close enough to discern the unwavering confidence residing within her eyes, eyes that had never known true opposition. "However, if you attempt to harm her, if I even detect a flicker of her discomfort..." His voice became devoid of inflection. "I will intervene and shatter that supreme arrogance of yours. Cross that boundary, and I will demonstrate precisely how misguided you are in believing yourself the most formidable presence in this forest."
