Jax defies the quest's objective to protect a traumatized child with a past spanning multiple lifetimes. The child, wary of betrayal, attempts to test Jax's sincerity with a truth spell. Jax, shielded by his companions Athanasia and Evangeline, reaffirms his commitment to her protection, declaring he will find another way home or force the world to yield.

Jax leaned in, his voice a low murmur only she could perceive. "Keep this secret that I'm about to share with you from the others."

His words were practically inaudible to anyone else.

"Soon, I'll be a father. My entire life has been dedicated to breaking others, to pushing them away, to being so abrasive that no one would ever approach me again. My existence has been defined by conquest. I'm proficient with a sword in countless ways, yet I haven't the faintest clue how to hold a child's hand."

He took a breath.

"Upon learning of my child's impending arrival, a profound fear gripped me. I was terrified of my own ineptitude, of not knowing how to even hold them. Consequently, I've been immersing myself in these rather quaint books, attempting to grasp the art of holding a child, of safeguarding their innocence, and of embodying the role of a father – a role entirely foreign to me."

His tone softened even further.

"And when I observed you today, wounded, weeping, standing defiantly against the world for reasons neither of us fully comprehends, I didn't see a stranger, a supposed witch, or a prophecy. All I saw was my own child. Perhaps it's the influence of that novel I've been engrossed in, or perhaps it's these shifting emotions that continually redefine me."

He drew back slightly.

"However, one truth became undeniably clear. No father, truly acting as one, would ever stand idly by while the world inflicted harm upon his child. If I were to permit this world to claim your life, I could never face my own child again."

He gently placed his hand atop her small head.

"So, consider this my training, little one. Allow me to be your father for a time."

The miniature dragon stood utterly still, uncomprehending of his words. Her tears halted mid-descent, her expression settling into a disarmingly bewildered look, caught between shock and a nascent, long-forgotten feeling.

Jax rose, his voice now clear and resonant, loud enough for all to hear. "My past self would not have hesitated to commit an act as vile as sacrificing a child for survival. But now? I'm prepared to employ a level of ruthlessness that challenges the very fabric of this world."

He glanced down at her. "Rest assured, little one. I have a rather unpleasant habit of utterly demolishing anyone who dares approach someone I've already claimed as my own."

The girl looked up at him, her brows furrowed. "I don't understand you at all."

Jax offered a weary smile as he patted her head. "That makes two of us."

He gazed toward the heavens, speaking softly. "Even I am uncertain of who I have become."

The girl sought his attention again, her voice a fragile blend of hope and the ingrained caution against nurturing it. "Do you truly mean it? Will... will you protect me? Will you stand by me without seeking my powers?"

Jax nodded. "I will. However, my presence won't be perpetual. Our worlds are vastly different. It's rather complicated, but I hail from a place beyond this one, and I have a home to which I must return. There are people who would be consumed by worry if I didn't."

Noticing the flicker of confusion and sadness on her face, he added, "But do not fret. I shall not depart until I have cultivated your strength to such an absolute degree that this entire planet rests comfortably beneath your dominion."

His tone sharpened considerably.

"I am aware that you are holding back. I know you fear your own immense power, terrified of causing harm. This apprehension is precisely why you are handicapping yourself. It is utterly nonsensical that a mage capable of flawlessly constricting a lethal spell around my neck could be apprehended by mere knights."

He knelt to her eye level. "Whatever misguided guilt compels you to choose death over resistance, allow me to impart some counsel."

His gaze locked with hers. "If the entire world deemed me an apocalyptic disaster, I would not allow them to kill me. Instead, I would validate their fears. I would ensure their foolish prophecy manifested."

He stood tall once more.

"I adhere to a personal creed. Should I commit a transgression and the world brands me guilty, yet my own pride refuses to yield, you will inevitably find me forging a path to make every single one of them rue the day."

His jaw clenched. "But if the world labels me cruel or evil when my hands are utterly clean? If they crucify me with accusations of cruelty I never committed? I refuse to let them be wrong. An undeserved title is abhorrent to me. Therefore, I embrace their manufactured nightmare and bring it to terrifying fruition. I ensure that their suffering unfolds precisely as they depicted it in their dreadful little rumors."

He extended his hand, gently tilting her chin upward until she was compelled to meet his gaze.

"This world has already condemned you as the apocalypse, little one. In their narrative, you are cast as the villain. So, why are you making such a fervent effort to portray the victim?"

His touch was tender, but his words carried a significant weight."Stop resisting their predetermined path. Embrace the role of the witch they dread. Fulfill their little doomed prediction. Because I guarantee you, the absolute despair that will cloud their vision when their falsehood transforms into reality? That emotion is a reward worth pursuing to the furthest reaches of existence." He released her chin, his tone softening once more. "You are far too young to comprehend the genuine pleasures this world offers. Thus, accompany me. I shall introduce you to the simple delights of behaving your age. Engaging in playful activities. Causing a bit of chaos. And allowing another to shoulder all the burdens for a change."
