Astrid shot up from the bed in an instant and dove straight into her explanation. "Hey! It's not like that! I got sleepy, and that's why I climbed onto the bed!"

Astrid snapped back without the tiniest pause. "Because I can't drift off without hugging my plushie. With him gone, I granted you the privilege of standing in for him."

Jax responded. "Of course not, ma'am. But one thing kept nagging at me. Do you usually kiss your plushie just like you kissed me? Right on the lips?"

She paid no mind. She settled back onto his bed, faced away from him, and declared. "That's your penalty for getting smart with your master. Now crash on the chilly floor. Accept it as punishment."

From the floor, Jax complained. "That's utterly unfair. I'm the patient here, yet you stole this poor guy's bed while he's in such bad shape. What'll the healer think tomorrow when he enters and sees his patient freezing on the ground while the guest hogs the bed?"

Jax asked with real concern. "What did you do to that poor fellow? He was actually pretty nice, you know?"

She shifted the pillow under her head. "I let them off only because I'm in such a great mood from today's victory."

No answer followed. Then, quietness hung between them for well over an hour.

Jax saw that she hadn't fibbed about her plushie routine.

She pulled him into a hug right away. Far tighter than any pillow. Her body molding against his on pure instinct.

Astrid strained every bit to avoid twitching. To skip blushing. To keep every facial muscle from giving her away. Deep down, she grinned wildly as her payback landed perfectly.

As sleep finally overtook her, she'd already proclaimed it the greatest night ever. And she longed for it to stretch on forever beside him.

Jax missed the grand finale party that signaled the event's wrap-up. He couldn't even collect the trophy. His body wouldn't do more than lie there and breathe during those first three days.

Roxana earned a promotion too. She moved up from assistant professor to full professor. Soon, she'd get her own mansion and personal assistant. Her goal of breaking free from Jax's shadow had come true at last.

At this moment, Jax rode in his carriage, humming with a distinct thrill. He headed to Sianna's lands to seize his bet winnings. And above all, the devotion points nestled between her thighs.

Jax braced for intense busyness ahead. The new school year kicked off in merely two days, along with his classes. He sensed this term would unleash way more chaos than the previous. Plenty of champions had probably slipped into the academy already.

Not to mention the Celestials hunting him down. He craved power. And that power waited right now between Sianna's legs.

Jax stated. "Ah, I totally overlooked you. So, either vacate my body or seal your eyes and ears for now. You seriously won't manage what's about to happen."

Jax replied. "Then don't gripe at me later. Oh, and who's this mother of yours exactly?"

She held back for dramatic effect. "She slayed the supreme god himself. Then claimed his throne. It wasn't that long ago. Roughly five hundred years back, give or take."

Jax declared without any sarcasm. "She comes off as a captivating figure. I'll have to challenge her for that position too and put her to the test. Once I achieve godhood. Or go through whatever it takes."

Jax brushed it aside entirely. For right then, the carriage halted. He peered out the window and laid eyes on a castle that oozed riches from every brick and pane.
