Kill the Sun Chapter 985 - See You
Previously on Kill the Sun...
‘There it is!’ Nick noted mentally as he spotted the second Chief Engineer rushing toward the antimatter laser.
High above the Earth, the conflict had only just commenced.
‘No time for a stealthy approach!’ Nick realized.
Just as the Chief Engineer arrived at the cave, Nick materialized abruptly behind his target.
His blades pierced through the Chief Engineer’s cortex, yet Nick’s assault did not cease there.
These Chief Engineers were merely in the Eighth Realm and possessed no combat specialization.
He continued his relentless attack until its death was certain.
Following the kill, Nick’s body expanded to envelop the Chief Engineer, allowing him to absorb its entire treasury of biological data.
Instantly, Nick sprinted into the cave, transmitting the stolen credentials required to bypass the security.
The cave entrance yielded, and Nick burst into the massive chamber.
The interior spanned nearly 300 meters in width and reached an identical height.
A colossal mechanism dominated the center of the space.
Electrical wiring and various tubes were draped across its heavy metallic skeleton.
These tubes linked a spherical black containment unit to the aperture at the far end.
The antimatter laser.
With both Chief Engineers eliminated, there was no one left capable of operating the weapon.
Nick had fulfilled his objective.
The threat of the antimatter laser had been neutralized.
He could have chosen to flee and go into hiding at that moment, leaving the remaining struggle to Daniel and the Nightmen.
Instead, Nick interfaced with the antimatter laser and signaled the cave to open.
The ceiling retracted, and the antimatter laser was elevated to the surface in a heartbeat.
Nick mastered the operational protocols of the weapon instantly and initiated the firing sequence.
BOOOOM!
In that same moment, Nick witnessed a massive detonation occurring on Earth.
Seeing that Asia had been nearly wiped out, he was convinced his choice was the correct one.
‘They are in grave danger!’ Nick thought. ‘I must provide all the assistance I can!’
Nick programmed the coordinates and operational commands into the laser.
The target: the massive General!
Then, Nick pulled the trigger.
A portal materialized directly in front of the laser’s barrel, and Nick sensed a colossal wave of Pure Energy erupting from it.
‘The Amorphous Race has upgraded the antimatter laser!’ Nick understood.
They had integrated their teleportation tech into the weapon.
Normally, a laser is limited to lightspeed, and since Earth was over 300,000 kilometers away, it would take a full second to arrive.
In that one second, the General could have easily relocated to avoid the strike.
Thanks to the portal technology, however, this was no longer a problem.
A gateway opened right behind the muscular General, and Nick unleashed the beam.
BOOOM!
A five-meter-wide shaft of black light erupted from the device.
The beam surged through the portal and exited directly behind the General.
It was a direct hit.
BOOOOOOOOM!
A titanic explosion blanketed the skies of Earth.
The shockwave threw Daniel and the surviving Nightmen backward, their skin covered in fresh burns.
Even though they weren't the intended targets, the sheer magnitude of the antimatter laser's power was enough to wound them.
Fortunately, they survived the blast.
As the explosion cleared a moment later, the burly General became visible.
It was severely mutilated!
The chitinous armor on its back had been obliterated, and massive globs of purple blood drifted into the void behind it.
The damage dealt by the antimatter laser surpassed the combined efforts of all their previous attacks!
Seeing this, the Nightmen felt hope rekindle in their souls.
They all understood exactly what had transpired.
Nick!
Nick had turned the enemy’s own antimatter laser against them!
He had rescued them!
“Attack!” Daniel’s voice rang out through the transmission. “The other General is missing! This is our window!”
Daniel’s assessment was accurate.
The slender General had vanished from the battlefield.
A more significant threat had demanded its attention.
The antimatter laser.
The weapon could fire ten times before needing a recharge, and every shot was lethal.
Consequently, the thin General was currently streaking toward the moon at maximum velocity.
Nick engaged the laser once more, and it began its preparation cycle.
In a flash, Nick calculated the timing.
It required a full second to fire again.
Nick’s posture relaxed completely.
‘That is too slow,’ he mused. ‘The thin General moves with too much speed.’
‘It will reach this location before the laser can discharge.’
Nick glanced back toward Earth.
These thoughts occurred at lightning speed, fueled by Nick’s superhuman cognitive processing.
A sudden moment of absolute clarity washed over his mind.
For the first time ever, he recalled his parents.

And finally, this ultimate assault.
‘From the offspring of ordinary people to a nameless nobody in the Dregs.’
‘From a young CZE to the master of the city.’
‘From the hope of the old Champion to an Eternal.’
‘I have committed many atrocities.’
‘I have ended the lives of countless innocents for the sake of mankind.’
‘I have lived my whole life viewing myself as a monster.’
‘But there are no regrets.’
‘It may not have been the "right" thing, but I believe it was the necessary decision.’
Nick’s thoughts turned to the approaching thin General.
‘It is time.’
‘Kiran… Daniel…’
‘Aria…’
‘Perhaps it is for the best if I am forgotten.’
‘A sinner of my magnitude doesn't deserve to be remembered.’
Then, Nick drew his blade.
He faced the black containment sphere at the base of the antimatter laser.
The antimatter storage unit.
‘Goodbye.’
With a final motion, Nick drove his blades deep into the antimatter storage.
