The island's port construction progressed with the deployment of the Underwater Arti-Horse, piloted by Yuri. Meanwhile, Yame learned that ancient seals and traces of the Evil God Cult were found during a survey of the island. Later, a group of seakins arrived, initially perceived as a threat, but they turned out to be allies connected to Ursa and offered assistance with the excavation.

My name is Yame.

I’m a little excited to be back on the island after so long.

The main expedition team arrived.

A joint effort between Rana-san and Ancestor-san, the team consisted of twelve High Elves, five Mountain Elves, twenty Lizardmen, one beastkin, two Elder Dwarves, ten angels, and Stifano, an Ancient Devil.

Yes, an Ancient Devil.

Apparently, Stifano isn’t simply called a devil. She’s called an Ancient Devil.

Which means Gucci, Bulga, and Prada are all Ancient Devils, too.

And so am I.

Honestly, I don’t feel old enough to be called ancient, but I guess that just means that much time has passed. That made me a little depressed.

The main expedition team brought in a huge amount of building materials.

Ah, don’t put the building materials there. Put them a little further this way.

That area gets submerged at high tide.

You want to build the expedition base?

Ah, so that’s why you brought all these building materials.

If you’re building a base, I think that place would be good.

It’s a little farther from the coast, but it’s higher than here, so even the high waves that come once or twice every few years won’t reach it.

There’s also a place where fresh water springs from the ground if you walk a little farther.

You’ll need to make the foundation sturdy, though, or strong winds will carry the whole thing away.

Yeah, I know.

I learned from experience.

Whether I liked it or not.

-0-

Construction of the base and the investigation began.

Hmm?

You’re building the toilets before the base?

Not just at the planned site for the base, but along the coast, too?

Um, in that case…

The sea reaches about this far, so build them somewhere higher than that.

Please avoid that area because there’s a freshwater spring there.

If you’re building toilets, somewhere around here would be helpful.

There are slimes on the island.

I’ve seen them several times.

Not long after I said that, several magnificent toilets had already been completed.

I could feel the skill of experienced craftsmen.

But why build the toilets first?

Is this the village chief’s policy?

If so, I suppose it can’t be helped.

The construction of the base and the investigation resumed in earnest.

The High Elves, Mountain Elves, and Lizardmen immediately began clearing away the vegetation to make room for the base.

Maybe it’s because there are so many people, but they finished in no time.

While someone who looked like the High Elf commander was making a final inspection of the construction site, the building materials were being adjusted.

They’re pretty experienced at this.

-0-

The beastkin was a warrior named Gulf.

He took several Lizardmen with him to explore the island.

They don’t think there are any powerful demon beasts or monsters on the island, but I might simply have been lucky enough not to encounter any. So they decided to investigate.

I’d definitely like them to do that.

-0-

The two Elder Dwarves were checking what could be eaten on the island.

But I wonder about their criteria being whether something can be turned into alcohol.

Isn’t that their only criterion?

They do check whether something is poisonous, too?

I thought I had told them which things were poisonous.

Apparently, assuming something is safe just because I can eat it is dangerous.

I might have some resistance to poison.

I see.

-0-

The angels flew to the sky.

Naturally, they were checking the shape of the island, but they were also going to look for anything around the island.

The direction of the wind?

Um, during this season, it usually comes from this direction during the day.

At night, it sometimes reverses.

Ah, if the wind starts coming from over there, be careful.

A strong wind comes from that direction.

-0-

As for Stifano… she was investigating the place where I had been sleeping.

Not my usual base, but the place where I had been sealed.

I’m not very knowledgeable about that sort of thing, so I’ll leave it to Stifano.

I’ll just answer honestly when she asks me questions.

-0-

Rana-san and Ancestor-san, who had brought us to the island, wandered around the island or went somewhere using teleportation magic.

As night approached, the two of them came back to pick everyone up.

I thought we would be spending the night on the island, but apparently most of them would return to Big Tree Village using Rana-san and Ancestor-san’s teleportation magic.

Teleportation magic is convenient.

And the food in the village is delicious.

Once things settle down, I’d like to bring the birds and Ivan to the village.

-0-

The only ones staying on the island were the beastkin Gulf and several Lizardmen.

They wanted to observe what the island was like at night, too.

I suggested that they use the base in my cave, but they declined because they thought the birds wouldn’t like it.

Gulf and the others pitched the tents they had brought with them and prepared to camp outside.

They might already know this, but I told them about some plants that insects dislike.

I’m glad they were happy to hear about them.

Several days passed without any major problems.

The base was completed.

It was a single-story building with twenty private rooms.

It also had toilets, a kitchen, a dining room, a large common room, and even a bath.

It was more like an inn than a base.

It was built as a single-story building because of the winds on the island.

They also built a stone wall around the base as additional protection against the wind.

It’s amazing that they managed all this in such a short time.

-0-

Furthermore, a watchtower about five stories tall was built a short distance away from the base.

It was built sturdy enough, but unlike the base, the possibility of it being destroyed had been taken into consideration.

There wasn’t much inside, and only the flying angels were allowed to enter so that it wouldn’t be a problem even if the watchtower was destroyed.

It’s probably more like a resting place for the angels.

-0-

A water supply system was also installed.

The spring alone wouldn’t provide enough water.

They connected a waterway as far upstream along the river as possible and used it to bring water in.

Adjusting the slope of the waterway looked difficult, but the High Elves built it quickly without any trouble.

Hmm, they’re veteran craftsmen.

-0-

A garbage disposal area?

Ah, that would be a problem if we didn’t decide on one.

Then let’s use that depression over there.

I’ve seen slimes there several times.

Couldn’t we just burn the waste from construction?

We could use it as fuel.

-0-

Laundry should be done downstream from this river.

You’re going to build a washing area?

Then let’s make the place for hanging laundry around here.

You want to build a shed, too?

Is that necessary?

A place where people can take shelter when it rains, along with the people doing the laundry and the clothes they’ve hung out to dry.

I see.

-0-

The base inn was completed.

Furniture and magical devices were brought in from the village.

Beds, tables, chairs, shelves, curtains…

I can feel the presence of civilization.

Magical devices for lighting, boiling water, cooling things, freezing things, sending cool air into rooms, sending warm air into rooms…

They’re incredibly convenient.

I can’t help wondering what all the hardships I went through on my island were for, but…

There’s no point in being jealous.

Huh?

Can I use one of the rooms in the base as my own?

Yay.

-0-

They also built a hut for the birds.

It’s quite impressive.

They even designed the entrance specifically for the birds, making it difficult for anything other than birds to get inside.

But will the birds like it?

As I expected, the birds wouldn’t even go near it, so I took one of them inside to show it the hut.

After repeating that several times, the birds finally moved in.

And they started building nests inside the hut in no time.

They really seem to like it.

It feels like it took them much longer to start building nests at my cave base.

But is this really okay?

Aren’t we wasting all these building materials?

Is it really fine?

Could I collect bird feathers for you?

Huh?

Bird feathers are valuable?

I didn’t know that.

Whenever I was bored, I used to play with those feathers.

-0-

Since the cave base was now home only to Ivan, I moved Ivan into my room at the inn.

From today on, he’ll guard this room.

Yeah, yeah.

Ivan looks happy about it too.

-0-

And then I said goodbye to the cave base that had taken care of me all this time.

You have to do these things properly.

You never know, I might need to stay there again someday.

-0-

Now that the inn was finished, two oni maids from the village began coming over.

The onis were here to prepare meals for the survey team.

Until now, whoever happened to have some free time had been doing the cooking.

It was really nice to have meals that were just as delicious as the ones served in the village.

Ah, I helped with the cooking too.

Just like they told me to, I stirred the pot with a big spoon.

Yep.

I worked hard.
