Wu Xiao Dao gazed at Fu Ming Shao. He wore white armor, and though handsome, his sharp and determined aura made him look fierce. His piercing, scrutinizing stare carried undisguised killing intent toward her. It appeared he aimed to intimidate her with his eyes and crush her spirit first.
But who was Wu Xiao Dao? Having roamed the Ancient Continent, Divine Realm, and Underworld for years, would a simple glare scare her? Calmly, she shifted her eyes away, touched her wounded spot, and winced from the ache.
While she observed him, Fu Ming Shao examined Wu Xiao Dao too. Her clothing style felt unfamiliar and somewhat archaic to him. She seemed young, yet possessed remarkable bravery. Amid a battlefield littered with mangled corpses, she checked her wounds without panic, utterly unaffected by his presence.
Above all, how did someone like her end up here? Still, her sudden arrival had smashed the enemy General, wrapping up the fight sooner than expected.
“What’s your name?” he questioned.
“Wu Xiao Dao. And yours?” she countered.
“Fu Ming Shao.” He stated his name. Noting her lack of reaction, suspicions stirred in his mind.
Everyone in Eastern Qi Kingdom knew his name, yet she showed no sign of recognition, suggesting she'd never heard it before.
“Why did you show up here?” he pressed.
“Lightning struck me, and suddenly I was here.” Wu Xiao Dao spoke honestly, though they clearly doubted her.
“Report—Sixth Prince, General Mu’s forces got ambushed by foes at Wind Ridge.” A soldier dashed up and shouted the news.
“They’ve truly gone all out this time!” Fu Ming Shao sneered. “Detain these men as prisoners. Falcons, come with me!”
“Sixth Prince, what about this woman?” a lieutenant inquired.
......
Fu Ming Shao eyed Wu Xiao Dao. He'd planned to lock her up with the enemy troops, but her vivid gaze made him decide to bring her instead.
Bring her along? Shock rippled through the group. In this moment, haul this mysterious woman with them?
“Unknown background makes her safer under watch.” Fu Ming Shao clarified, “Handle the prisoners however you see fit.”
So many captives meant potential trouble if issues arose. Better to keep her close and respond swiftly to threats.
As he issued the order, he rode up, seized Wu Xiao Dao’s shoulders, lifted her effortlessly onto his horse, and positioned her in front.
Wu Xiao Dao offered no struggle. Unsure of the situation or her body’s state, complying seemed wisest. She wanted to learn about these folks and her new location.
Her top priority: figuring out why she couldn’t summon spirit power.
She'd barely mustered some at the end to shield herself, but it was pathetically weak—mere Spirit Paragon level, far from Divine Rank. Never since her youth had she felt this feeble.
Her injuries weren’t severe, or she couldn’t have stood alone, yet her frame somehow blocked most spirit power. The air’s spirit power felt sparse too, thinner than any prior continent’s worst. She wondered if that linked to her powerlessness.
“Who are you?” The voice from above broke her reverie.
“Isn’t it late to ask now?” Wu Xiao Dao retorted. “We’re this close—if I meant to kill you, you’d be gone already.”
“You don’t seek my life.” Fu Ming Shao stated confidently.
“Why so certain?”
“The timing, location, circumstances, and... you crushed the enemy General.”
Her being an enemy spy would fill them with regret.
“I landed here by accident.” Wu Xiao Dao explained. “The guy I flattened—was he important?”
“Western Ridge Kingdom’s top General, a constant thorn in Eastern Qi’s side.” Fu Ming Shao mused on such a powerhouse dying so absurdly, sighing at fate’s whims.
“So you owe me thanks.” Wu Xiao Dao arched her brows.
“Prove you’re harmless, and gratitude follows. Otherwise, no mercy!” Fu Ming Shao’s tone chilled, making Wu Xiao Dao feel a frozen block at her back.
The warhorse galloped forward with them aboard, then stumbled and toppled ahead. Fu Ming Shao gripped her shoulders mid-fall, leaping them to safety beside it.
A snow-covered pit had trapped the horse. An ordinary steed might recover, but this one pierced itself on a protruding branch and perished instantly.
Even Wu Xiao Dao knew a General’s mount was vital. Glancing up at Fu Ming Shao’s stoic expression, she rubbed her nose. “Better ditch me now. I’m cursed with bad luck—misfortune follows. Look, your prized horse suffered too.”
Fu Ming Shao shot her a look, pondering her claim’s validity.
Was it genuine, or a ploy to escape?
“My luck’s unbeatable. Let’s test whose dominates.” He signaled a nearby rider, who dismounted; Fu Ming Shao then mounted with Wu Xiao Dao.
This mount dashed far, halting at a mountain pass. Clashes echoed from within. Before words formed, an arrow whistled up, striking the horse’s leg. Wounded, it reared, flinging them off before fleeing.
Fu Ming Shao landed steadily with Wu Xiao Dao, unharmed.
“Master, it’s General Mu.” A scout atop the ridge peered down, spotted the besieged group, and reported.
Trailing Fu Ming Shao, Wu Xiao Dao spotted the fighter battling amid foes and whispered in shock, “Mu Si? What’s he doing here?”
An arrow aimed at Mu Si’s back, with two enemies closing from behind. Facing frontward threats, he missed the rear danger—or lacked strength to counter.
The peril was dire.
Surprised, Fu Ming Shao turned to her, only to see her wrench free and soar toward Mu Si, heedless of archers on the facing cliff.
