Inheritance of Two Trillion Chapter 2446 - 1819: Home Delivery (Part 2)
Previously on Inheritance of Two Trillion...
She is actually a little older than Lin Weiwei.
"Long time no see, Matilda. How have you been recently?" Lin Weiwei inquired with a smile, taking a seat opposite Matilda.
Matilda's expression momentarily faltered, appearing somewhat weary, yet she smoothed her hair and offered a smile. "Lin, thank you for your concern. I'm, I'm okay."
Lin Weiwei gave a nod of understanding.
Just then, a waiter arrived with their coffee. Lin Weiwei expressed her thanks, took a small sip, and then set the cup down.
"Matilda, why are you only contacting me now? Have you already left Yorko Company?" Lin Weiwei broached the subject, "Do you require a position at the moment?"
Previously, Bai Xiaosheng had expressed interest in the document Matilda possessed and had made her a promise.
He had pledged that should Matilda leave Yorko Company, he would secure her a job just as good as her previous one.
Of course, Bai Xiaosheng was aware at the time that Matilda was quite adept at her role and likely wouldn't resign. His promise was merely a setup for this current meeting.
Matilda offered Lin Weiwei a smile filled with gratitude. "Lin, thank you for remembering that. However, I haven't resigned yet."
"Ah, you haven't resigned yet!" Lin Weiwei conveyed surprise and a touch of confusion. "I recall the day before yesterday marked the end of the month, correct? They mentioned allowing you to resign at month's end with compensation. Why haven't you departed?"
Matilda quickly offered an explanation. "Uh, it's like this. Because I was once Mr. Fiewood's secretary, our company... Yorko Company is currently engaged in fierce competition with a rival. They are concerned that if I leave, it might lead to information leaks. Therefore... I need to complete some additional procedures."
"I understand," Lin Weiwei replied, seemingly accepting the explanation with a nod.
Next, Lin Weiwei looked at Matilda with curiosity. "So, you asked me out today because there's something you wish to discuss?"
As Lin Weiwei spoke, Matilda became visibly tense, glancing around and towards the window.
Her nervousness was contagious, causing Lin Weiwei to also survey their surroundings.
Perceiving no immediate threats, Matilda swiftly placed a USB drive on the table, sliding it towards Lin Weiwei. Her large, expressive eyes blinked as she spoke earnestly, "I don't have your email address, so I can't send you the file. This is the information you desired that day. At the time, I was afraid, so I only let you individuals take a look. Later, I felt I should give it to you entirely!"
Lin Weiwei's gaze remained on the USB drive without reaching for it. She then looked seriously at Matilda. "You're under suspicion by the company now; how can I possibly accept this from you at such a delicate time?"
"It's alright, it's not anything significant," Matilda stated hastily, nudging the USB drive closer to Lin Weiwei once more.
"However, it is, after all, your company's internal information. It's not right for us to be so self-serving in our actions." Lin Weiwei placed her hand on the USB drive, gently pushing it back.
"No one here knows me, and no one saw anything!" Matilda implored, attempting to push it over again.
"Even so! If I were to take it, I would feel indebted to you, and so would my two companions. You see, you are such a kind person. If something like this were to weigh on your conscience, your future work and life would be filled with unease." Lin Weiwei continued to refuse, pushing it back once more.
"It's quite alright. You are my friends. Assisting you would not make me uneasy." Matilda spoke rapidly, pushing it over again.
"It's not just you who would feel uneasy; it would make us uneasy as well." Lin Weiwei pushed it back again.
The two engaged in a subtle game of pushing the USB drive across the table, neither willing to yield. The faint sound of the drive scraping against the surface created a peculiar rhythm.
A passing waiter cast a curious glance at the two women.
Lin Weiwei and Matilda quickly straightened up, resuming an air of normalcy.
Once the waiter moved on, Matilda pushed it over again, asserting, "Really, it's perfectly fine!"
"It's truly not fine!" Lin Weiwei insisted, determined to make her point.
After their back-and-forth, Matilda's impatience flared. Her brows furrowed, and she shoved the drive forward, pressing down on it. Her voice rose several pitches. "I'm telling you to take it, just take it! It's alright!"
Lin Weiwei remained silent, observing Matilda's agitated state with a calm demeanor.
Matilda immediately seemed to realize her outburst. Her expression softened, becoming shy and meek as she lowered her voice. "Lin, I truly, truly, truly wish to help you all. Please don't refuse me, okay?"
"Okay," Lin Weiwei replied decisively this time.
Matilda's eyes brightened with relief at this response, and she exhaled a long, slow breath.
"However, with that said, I still cannot accept this," Lin Weiwei stated. "Because it serves no purpose for us."
Matilda froze, exclaiming, "How could it be useless!"
Lin Weiwei simply looked at her without speaking.
Matilda quickly cleared her throat, her expression shifting. She spoke softly to Lin Weiwei, "That day, I saw you all genuinely desired it and thought it was very important. How could it possibly be useless?"
Lin Weiwei beamed, her smile reaching her eyes as she addressed Matilda. "We did consider it quite significant that day, but after returning, we uncovered a substantial amount of information regarding those matters. Consequently, we no longer require it. Furthermore, considering this is a particularly special period for you, acquiring this might prove detrimental. Since it holds little practical value for us, it would be improper to accept it. Do you concur?"
Matilda found herself momentarily at a loss for words.
"Ah, incidentally, I also discovered a physical document. From what I can gather, it pertains to a few companies, much like the details within this item. Could you ascertain its usefulness?" Matilda promptly retrieved several pages from her handbag, extending them towards Lin Weiwei while resuming her discreet scanning of their surroundings.
This particular item had been meticulously compiled by Mr. Fiewood and his associates, concealing clues of greater significance and implicating two additional corporations.
