Li Jian cultivates the Sword in the Tree, merging with the earth to nourish it. Upon evolving into an Epsilon-class weapon after absorbing Li Jian's life force and Zhang Yi's power, the Sword in the Tree gains immense destructive capabilities and can form protective vine armor. Zhang Yi declares himself ready to face the Gatekeeper of the Underworld.

Star Island was a small island in Southeast Asia. It had once been a prosperous nation.

But after the apocalypse began, its energy shortages and small population meant that it soon vanished from the world entirely.

Of course, some survivors did remain on the island later on, but they too were wiped out completely by the vast quantities of poisonous fog that surged out of Mist Valley.

Now, this region had become the territory of the Wuluan Empire. For a thousand nautical miles in every direction around Star Island, dense poisonous fog blanketed the sea, keeping even the fish in nearby waters away.

From the sky, one could look down over the island and then descend beneath it, passing through thick layers of earth and rock.

Tens of thousands of meters below the surface lay a vast expanse, its layered depths stretching an unknowable distance.

This was the Wuluan Empire, a nation ruled by the Lizardfolk.

At the empire’s highest peak stood a crescent-shaped cliff. The Wuluan Empire’s Grand Marshal, the Gatekeeper of the Underworld, was seated at its edge.

He had always liked sitting there, gazing out over his people’s territory.

Behind him, four imposing generals in silver armor waited respectfully.

“Marshal, the scouts Youying and Destruction Hall have also fallen in battle!”

One of the silver-armored generals spoke in a grave voice.

The Gatekeeper of the Underworld slowly lifted his head. His face showed no emotion at the news, but a spark of anger clearly lit his deep-set eyes.

“To deal with a nation of mere sixth-generation punks, we lost three scouts, a silver-armored general, and the entire special forces unit!”

“Were the enemy simply too powerful, or have you been living too comfortably all these years and forgotten the lessons of our ancestors?”

The Gatekeeper of the Underworld spoke in a low voice, as if it came from the depths of a jar. Yet his casual words made the four generals’ hearts sink.

The four silver-armored generals immediately dropped to one knee and bowed their heads low.

“This subordinate has failed you!”

The Gatekeeper of the Underworld did not look back at them. His gaze remained fixed on the boundless land below.

Like the Nash Kingdom Zhang Yi had once visited, the Wuluan Empire was vertically layered.

The kingdom stretched down as far as the eye could see, its depths impossible to fathom.

Above them was a dazzling, magnificent blue-violet sky. Just one glance was enough to leave anyone deeply entranced.

Ever since he was a little boy, the Gatekeeper of the Underworld had loved gazing up at this firmament.

They called it the sky.

But their history teacher had once told them that this sky was false, and that the true sky lay beyond the firmament.

That was where the Wuluan people were meant to go. It was their rightful destination.

The Gatekeeper of the Underworld remained silent for a long while before finally speaking. “You can’t be blamed entirely for this. The time is not yet ripe. You are not suited to the environment above the dome, and cannot fight there for long.”

One of the silver-armored generals glanced at his companions before speaking. “Although our first battle did not achieve the results we expected, we have already figured out what the enemy is capable of!”

“Please give us one more chance. In the next battle, we will surely bring that human nation down completely!”

The Gatekeeper of the Underworld raised his head and gazed at the firmament, as though he could see through the thick layers of rock to everything on the surface.

He was curious about what it would feel like to walk beneath the sun.

But he had only seen the sun once, two years ago.

It was a scorching thing that made his body uncomfortable, yet instinctively drew him to follow it.

“Time is running out. The day the world is destroyed will also give the surface-dwelling races the shortest window in which to evolve.”

“We can’t keep waiting.”

“And we are hardly the only race coveting the world above ground.”

After saying this, the Gatekeeper of the Underworld rose from the cliff’s edge.

Although they belonged to the same race, once he stood, he was plainly far more imposing than the four silver-armored generals, standing nearly twice as tall!

Beneath his black armor was a perfectly built, muscular body. Even the slightest movement revealed a frame brimming with explosive strength!

He turned to face the four silver-armored generals.

“I will personally join this battle!”

Shock spread across the four generals’ faces.

“You… are going to take the field yourself?”

“It’s only a tiny human nation. Why would you need to go to the surface?”

“And… with your power, you could easily incur the punishment of the Unique God!”

The Gatekeeper of the Underworld lowered his head and looked at them, speaking slowly. “This world has quietly changed. The sixth generation is no longer favored by the gods. It has become a race forsaken by them.”

“Everything will inevitably end this way. Nothing can change it. Their destruction is inevitable!”

The four silver-armored generals dared not object, but they knew full well that if this peerless Grand Marshal personally entered the fray, then there could be no suspense in the conquest of any nation on the surface.

His strength had already surpassed the limits of what living beings could comprehend.

They had seen the Transcendents of Huaxu Nation. Reports sent back by dying soldiers had also given them an understanding of Huaxu Nation’s most advanced weapons and its most powerful Transcendents.

But so what?

What did the Chaos of Tianshui City matter? What did Houtu, the greatest force in the Shengjing district, matter?

Before their Grand Marshal, they were insignificant!

The Gatekeeper of the Underworld strode toward them, meeting the four generals’ reverent gazes.

“Prepare the battle plan!”

“When the Wuluan Empire sets foot on the surface, we must display our strength to the whole world with the most glorious victory!”

An utterly domineering light flashed in his eyes.

“One of the richest lands on the surface will be ours first!”

“Let those races that fear the might of heaven and dare not emerge from the earth take a good look.”

The four silver-armored generals answered at once, “Yes, Marshal!”

The Gatekeeper of the Underworld shot into the sky, and the four silver-armored generals followed close behind as they flew into the distance.

From above, one could see strangely shaped high-rises everywhere in the Wuluan Empire.

They were nothing like the primitive buildings one might imagine. Both their technological level and their aesthetic sensibilities far surpassed those of humans on the surface.

Numerous small aircraft even flew along fixed routes in midair.

They arrived at a spire-shaped building at the highest point of the Wuluan Empire and immediately began a meeting about the second wave of the landing war.

The meeting room was a vast circular space. Perhaps races that had developed in similar environments on this planet all had similar needs, resulting in architectural styles that were broadly alike.

At the center of the meeting room stood a huge round table, while the walls were completely transparent, offering a clear view of the entire city. Outside, soldiers in cyan armor stood guard, holding white weapons, as aircraft of all sizes occasionally flew across the distant sky.
