Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies Chapter 1632: Irrelevant
Previously on Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies...
That very night, less than half an hour after the Mist Valley invasion operation had concluded, a special conference initiated by the Shengjing district and joined by all six major regions was convened.
The leaders and top combat powers of all six major regions participated in this meeting simultaneously.
Projected images of each region appeared in the conference room, and also materialized in the main hall of Zhang Yi's residence.
Yang Xinxin and the others, meanwhile, sat on the sidelines observing.
From Shengjing district, only Meng Yuanjun's figure appeared.
He looked at everyone seated and asked, "Everyone, after this great battle, what is the extent of the damage?"
For the first time, the carefree expression was absent from Han Shanzuo's face.
His expression grave, he said, "The Northeast Major Region has suffered heavy losses! Fengtian City was over half destroyed, and many civilians and Fierce Tiger Guards soldiers were killed as well."
From the East China Sea Major Region, Supreme Commander Li Guangxiao said in a deep voice, "The situation in the East China Sea Major Region is even worse. As for our naval fleet, almost all of our ships have been destroyed, making it difficult to maintain patrols over the southeastern waters in the short term."
"We lost many soldiers in battle, though civilian casualties were kept under control. However... we lost an Epsilon-class Transcendent, Qinglong!"As soon as these words were spoken, the atmosphere in the room fell into dead silence.
Every Epsilon-class Transcendent was a pillar of the nation, and across all the major regions, they were the most vital strategic resources.
Not every region was fortunate enough to have two Epsilon-class Transcendents.
The Northeast Major Region, for instance, was currently supported by only Han Shanzuo alone.
One could well imagine just how enormous the East China Sea Major Region's losses were this time.
After hearing everything, Li Changgong felt somewhat relieved, at least for the moment, it appeared their losses were comparatively smaller.
"The Northwest Major Region suffered zero civilian casualties! Only some Wolf Fang Guards soldiers were killed in action. Furthermore, we dealt a heavy blow to the invading enemy, sending them back in utter defeat!"
The others inwardly rolled their eyes at this statement.
Utter defeat?
If they had truly been routed, then those invaders should never have been allowed to return at all.
Everyone had gone through the same ordeal, who didn't know that the Mist Valley forces had retreated on their own?
Why put on such airs at a time like this!
From the Southwest Region, Luo Zhuo, now the supreme commander and leader of the unified political-religious system, said, "The Southwest Region did not come under attack this time, so nothing particularly noteworthy happened."
Meng Yuanjun nodded. "The Shengjing district is the same. Based on our assessment, this incident may be connected to the fact that underground civilizations exist beneath both of our regions."
"There may be some kind of unspoken understanding among these underground races, namely, that they will not invade each other's territories."
Han Shanzuo sighed. "So you're saying, we're just the unlucky ones?"
Meng Yuanjun offered reassurance. "You can't put it that way! After all, the very existence of underground civilizations is inherently an unstable factor."
"Since the underground civilization of the Mist Valley can erupt and threaten our survival, then other underground civilizations could just as easily do the same."
"Therefore, our two regions are essentially living on the edge of a volcano."
Hearing Meng Yuanjun's words, Han Shanzuo thought of that terrifying civilization beneath the Qinling Mountains, and felt somewhat more balanced inside.
If that civilization ever came into conflict with the Huaxu Nation, the Shengjing district would undoubtedly bear the brunt of it.
Zhang Yi sat on the sofa with his fingers interlaced, his gaze fixed on Luo Zhuo, and the two men's eyes met in mid-air.
Luo Zhuo turned his head and cast a grateful look toward Zhang Yi.
Because only the two of them knew that the Nash Kingdom beneath the Southwest Region had been completely erased in that battle.
Meng Yuanjun's gaze shifted to Zhang Yi, a brilliant smile spreading across his face.
"Here, we must give special recognition to the Jiangnan Region's response!"
He extended his hand toward Zhang Yi and Zhu Zheng.
"In this confrontation with the Mist Valley Transcendent forces' invasion, only the Jiangnan Region not only avoided significant losses, but also annihilated all the invaders!"
At these words, the others felt more than a little sour.
Although they were all on the same side, everyone else had suffered, yet this one had not only escaped unscathed but had even gained an advantage. The others didn't say it out loud, but they couldn't help feeling bitter inside.
But what could they do about it?
Who could blame them when Zhang Yi was simply so formidable, managing to wipe out the entire invading force relying solely on the strength of his own Tianshui City!
Plainly put, those with real strength could afford to play the game, while the weak needed to train harder, and complaining was useless.
Still, Li Changgong crossed his arms and offered some opinions on the matter.
"The invading underground civilization is from the Mist Valley on Star Island, right?"
He looked at Zhang Yi, Li Guangxiao, and Xuanwu.
"As I recall, the ones who originally mobilized forces against Star Island were your East China Sea Major Region and the Jiangnan Region! Now that problems have arisen, it stands to reason that you two should bear the primary responsibility!"
"Meanwhile, our Northwest and Northeast Major Regions have suffered undeserved calamity."
Li Changgong's argument was indeed not without merit. From start to finish, he had gained absolutely nothing from the Star Island affair, and on top of that, had gotten beaten, so naturally he harbored resentment.
Zhang Yi was not an unreasonable person, so he smiled and said to Li Changgong, "Before this incident, I warned you that the Huaxu Nation might come under attack. You simply failed to prepare properly yourself, so who can you blame?"
"Furthermore, you say the underground civilization of Star Island came for us. By that logic, since they had no grudge against you, why would they attack you?"
"Since they made a move against you, it must mean you did something you shouldn't have."
Every word was backed by sound reasoning.
Li Changgong's face turned green with anger, and he slammed the table hard. "Chaos, are you even being reasonable?! My Northwest Major Region doesn't even border the sea, how could we possibly have any connection to them? Clearly, it was your actions that made all of us pay the price!"
Before Zhang Yi could speak, Li Guangxiao interjected.
"Changgong, you're too impatient! When things happen, you need to stay calm, don't act on impulse!"
Li Guangxiao's intervention somewhat quieted Li Changgong down.
After all, the two shared the same surname, and Li Guangxiao was also Li Changgong's distant elder uncle.
"But I think debts must be paid by the debtor, and our losses cannot simply be borne in vain!"
As Li Changgong said this, his eyes were locked dead onto Zhang Yi.
If the Jiangnan Region had suffered losses equal to theirs in this war, Li Changgong wouldn't have said such things.
But he was furious!
Clearly, you were the ones who stirred up the trouble, yet when disaster struck, I was the one who suffered, and you got away completely unscathed. Who could tolerate that?
Li Guangxiao took a deep breath and said slowly, "Arguing over right and wrong in such matters holds no meaning at all. You need to understand, this is a clash between two different races, what need is there for a reason?"
