Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies Chapter 1505: The True Target
Previously on Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies...
The scattered footsteps echoed through the silent museum, stirring a sense of dread that made people afraid of waking some mysterious existence.
But Zhang Yi understood that this feeling came from the night parade of a hundred ghosts roaming the streets of Edo City after dark.
So they had to hurry and secure their target.
Meanwhile, thick fog had already risen over Edo City.
Where the mist spread, monstrous and enormous ghostly apparitions began marching along the streets from the city center, as if patrolling their territory.
Suddenly, as they passed by the Daliangdu Museum, more and more monsters began turning their heads to look in that direction.
A red giant ghost flared its nostrils, sniffed deeply, and a greedy gleam flickered in its eyes. Then it started crawling up the museum's long staircase toward them.
The thick gray mist surged toward the Daliangdu Museum as more and more ghostly apparitions gathered.
Even the largest museum in Edo City seemed pitifully small against the tide of monsters.
...Inside the Daliangdu Museum.
Zhang Yi led the group quickly to the display case holding the "Philosophy of the Mind." Seeing the ancient book, Uncle Yu and Fatty Xu broke into relieved smiles.
They hadn't expected the mission to go so smoothly.
This damned place—they didn't want to stay a second longer.
The thick gray mist surged toward the Daliangdu Museum as more and more ghostly apparitions gathered.
At the same time, the sound of doors and windows being smashed came from outside the museum.
"Crack—"
The tempered glass couldn't hold the giant ghosts back for even a moment. Sensing the scent of living humans, they let out bone-chilling roars and quickly writhed toward Zhang Yi and the others.
"Damn it, those things are coming! Boss, we need to get out of here now!"
Fatty Xu urged urgently.
Zhang Yi looked down at the ancient "Philosophy of the Mind" scroll in his hand and flipped through it casually.
But what lay before him was nothing but blank pages! There wasn't a single word written inside.
"How is this possible? It's a fake!"
Liang Yue's eyes widened in disbelief. They had only found a counterfeit.
Zhang Yi's expression, however, remained largely unchanged.
"Not entirely unexpected."
Liang Yue lifted her head, about to ask Deng Shentong what was going on.
But she suddenly realized that Deng Shentong and Bai Chunyu had vanished from their original spots.
"ROAR—"
The ghosts let out spine-chilling cries and lunged at Zhang Yi and his group, unable to contain their impatience.
Without even glancing at them, Zhang Yi pressed his right index and middle fingers together and twisted them forward as if turning a key.
"Divine Domain Purification!"
In an instant, an incredibly powerful force erupted at the center of the monsters, crushing them all together violently.
Massive amounts of flesh were ground to pulp. Black blood flowed like juice being squeezed, staining the floor of the Daliangdu Museum black.
Zhang Yi turned his gaze into the distance.
Deng Shentong and Bai Chunyu had reached another display case and were quickly lifting the entire case off its stand.
Inside that case lay a small golden dragon.
"So that was your real target all along, huh?"
Zhang Yi said flatly.
Deng Shentong carefully stowed the little dragon into his tactical backpack.
He looked at Zhang Yi, a sheepish smile spreading across his face.
"Sorry, Zhang Yi! There's something I didn't mention to you beforehand. But for me, this thing is worth a lot more!"
Amber had once told him that the mysterious object in the Daliangdu Museum wasn't Wang Shouren's original "Philosophy of the Mind" but this little golden dragon.
In other words, Deng Shentong had kept Zhang Yi in the dark from the start, using him to create an opportunity to snatch the golden dragon.
For Deng Shentong, this might hold the key to advancing to Epsilon-class.
Zhang Yi smiled faintly, utterly unbothered. He casually tossed the fake "Philosophy of the Mind" onto the floor.
"Now I understand your true purpose."
"But there's something I regret to inform you. That 'Philosophy of the Mind' was a fake. And that golden dragon specimen you got—do you really think it's genuine?"
Zhang Yi's words froze the smile on Deng Shentong's face.
Especially Zhang Yi's utterly unsurprised expression made everything click for Deng Shentong.
"You... you already knew these things were fake!"
"I couldn't be certain before, but I had prepared for it."
Zhang Yi said calmly.
Not everything displayed in museums is genuine. Especially for sufficiently valuable artifacts, replicas are often used for exhibition.
The real ones are either stored away in absolutely secure locations or have long become private collections of certain big shots.
Just as Zhang Yi and the others were talking, the hundred ghosts he had annihilated with a single move were reviving.
The black bloodstains on the floor vanished. The ghosts reappeared in the museum, snarling ferociously as they charged at Zhang Yi and his group again!
Deng Shentong's heart filled with bitter laughter. He thought he had pulled off a sneaky victory, but everything was still within Zhang Yi's calculations.
"Actually... I was planning to explain it all when we got back. I would have shared the research results from this golden dragon with you too."
He tried to explain.
Zhang Yi just gave him a faint glance without replying.
Everyone had their selfish motives. Since he hadn't said anything from the start, Deng Shentong was obviously planning to hoard the core secrets.
"Forget it. Let's get out of here first!"
Zhang Yi said flatly as he opened a Dimensional Gate.
These ghosts couldn't be killed anyway, so wasting time here was pointless. They could discuss everything after returning.
But just as Zhang Yi opened the Dimensional Gate and prepared to lead everyone out, a hoarse yet playful voice rang in everyone's ears.
"The tumbler has fallen!"
In an instant, Zhang Yi's body felt as if it were locked in place by something, completely unable to move!
Not just him—everyone present was frozen in place, unable to move a muscle.
The vengeful spirits let out piercing howls. Hundreds upon hundreds of them charged at Zhang Yi and his group with grotesque expressions, their eyes gleaming with greedy, bloodthirsty desire to gnaw every last bone clean!
"Manifold Phenomena!"
At the critical moment, Zhang Yi deployed his Dimensional Gates to block the oncoming ghosts!
A swarm of ghosts entered his gates and vanished instantly.
The ghosts behind them stopped at the edge of the gate's range but still stared at Zhang Yi and the others with deadly focus!
Before they knew it, the entire museum was completely overrun by ghosts. Even outside the museum, countless more were pouring in.
The tiny humans stood in the center of the museum. Zhang Yi's invisible Dimensional Gates acted like a barrier, keeping the ghosts at bay.
At such close range, they could see every grotesque and terrifying ghost in vivid detail.
But what Zhang Yi was most concerned about was the one who had just used an ability to immobilize everyone.
