Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies Chapter 1497: The Undying Phantoms

Facing the frenzied Slit-Mouthed Woman, Zhang Yi merely extended his right hand and snapped his fingers.
"Snap!"
The space before him twisted rapidly. The Slit-Mouthed Woman didn’t even have time to utter a wail before she was warped into a fuzzy, indistinct lump.
Zhang Yi walked over and looked. The ground was soaked with blood, but it gave off a strange, otherworldly stench.
Not like a human.
"What exactly are these things?"
He took a portion of the biological sample, intending to bring it back for Zhou Ke’er to study.
After finishing that, Zhang Yi continued forward.
But he hadn’t gone ten meters when that familiar sound came again.
Bo… bo… bo…Zhang Yi frowned and immediately turned back.
He saw the Slit-Mouthed Woman he had just twisted with Divine Domain Purification slowly regaining her body.
"How is this possible?"
With his current strength, that technique shouldn’t just kill a ghost instantly; even low-level Epsilon-class beings, unless they had exceptionally strong defenses, would be one-shotted.
"What the hell is this thing?"
A bigger question rose in Zhang Yi’s mind.
The Slit-Mouthed Woman had already grabbed a pair of scissors and, screaming, lunged at him.
Zhang Yi flashed aside and dodged the attack in an instant.
The huge scissors snapped shut with a clanging sound, and the street before them split open like fabric, forming a long tearing seam.
Zhang Yi unleashed a second Divine Domain Purification.
Unsurprisingly, the Slit-Mouthed Woman was instantly killed, but this time Zhang Yi didn’t leave. He stayed behind to observe quietly.
Sure enough, in less than ten seconds, the Slit-Mouthed Woman revived again.
"Is this a rules-type ability?"
An entity that could not be killed probably wasn’t being defeated the right way.
Zhang Yi wasn’t in a hurry. He ran the experiment again and again.
But no matter how many times he killed the Slit-Mouthed Woman, the result was the same: she always resurrected.
A heavier sense of unease settled into Zhang Yi’s mind.
"Unkillable? Fine, this thing’s too troublesome. I’m withdrawing!"
Zhang Yi wasn’t going to waste time here.
He chose to spatially shift out of the area.
The next moment, he appeared in a block of streets.
He had been here during the day; it had been bustling, all lights and revelry.
At night, however, the streets were deserted—only neon signs flickered, leaflets drifted through the air, and there was no one around.
"Oi yo—"
A singing voice echoed nearby. This time Zhang Yi took the initiative. He planned to start from the outskirts of the Night Parade of One Hundred Demons, pick off some lesser monsters, and gather intel.
"Rumble—"
Like the sound of a train passing by, a corner of the street suddenly brightened. A red light grew ever more intense, and the sound of a train grew clearer.
A giant wheel more than five meters high appeared before Zhang Yi.
The wheel burned with raging flames.
In the center of the wheel was a twisted, ghastly face.
The ghost face’s eyes glanced over and spotted Zhang Yi on the street, then it quickly turned and rolled toward him.
The intelligent system immediately provided Zhang Yi with an analysis of the monster before him.
"The creature before you is the Neon great demon Wheel-Entering-Way."
"Got it."
Wheel-Entering-Way expelled a roaring jet of towering flames that, in an instant, covered the whole street.
Zhang Yi opened a Dimensional Gate and swallowed all the flames into another space.
Then, "Full counterattack!"
The flames were spat back out of the pocket dimension and hurled at Wheel-Entering-Way.
For a moment a dazed look crossed its face, as if it hadn’t expected its own attack to strike itself.
Amid the raging inferno, it charged at Zhang Yi with terrifying force!
"Boom!"
Zhang Yi didn’t waste words. The Holy Judgment bracelet on his right hand transformed into a horizontal blade, and he slashed at Wheel-Entering-Way!
The dark Void Force condensed into a massive crescent moon. To avoid causing too much commotion, Zhang Yi focused the power. Otherwise, a single strike would have leveled everything within ten miles!
Even so, the blow’s force was still immense!
Wheel-Entering-Way’s frenzied rolling body was cleaved cleanly in two.
"Crash!"
The wheel shattered into burning splinters of wood, scattering everywhere.
Zhang Yi hefted his blade and walked forward step by step.
Shortly after, the broken wooden fragments seemed to come alive, leaping up and reassembling into a complete flaming wheel.
Zhang Yi slowly exhaled a breath of stale air.
"Looks like the undying trait isn’t unique to the Slit-Mouthed Woman. Maybe all the hundred demons walking tonight can’t be killed!"
"I need to find the source. Something must be controlling them."
Wheel-Entering-Way charged at Zhang Yi with ferocious momentum, the flames consuming the whole street, heat pressing down like a wall!
"Swish!"
Zhang Yi sliced the wheel apart again, then vanished in an instant.
Meanwhile, Deng Shentong and the others were not idle.
At the edge of Edo City’s thick fog, they were trying every method to investigate.
Baili Changqing held a large, sophisticated instrument, contacting the Jiangnan Region and using the Nebula System to investigate Edo City from satellite surveillance.
"The fog is too dense. Although it looks like visibility is possible from the ground, from the satellite’s perspective, nothing here is visible. It’s exactly like the Star Isle Mist Valley back then."
Baili Changqing looked up at Deng Shentong and said.
Deng Shentong frowned. "I’ve discussed this with the Deng family’s intelligence agency. This abnormal reaction has never occurred in the past. We can only trace it back to about a year ago."
"However, many factions use similar concealment zones to avoid detection, so they didn’t pay it much mind at the time."
Wu Di had a thin steel wire between his teeth and, watching them, asked, "Then how do we break through?"
Deng Shentong said, "Wait for Zhang Yi to return! Only he can go deep into Edo to investigate. I believe he’ll bring back useful information."
Wu Di’s mouth curled. "If those things only appear at night, I don’t think we need to make such a big fuss."
"We can just operate during the day! With our strength, we could storm Daliangdu Museum directly, or even assault the Demon-Sealing Court’s headquarters. Force them to hand over whatever they’ve taken!"
Deng Shentong smiled without answering.
Baili Changqing gave him a thump on the head.
"If it were that simple, Captain Chaos could come alone. Why drag us along?"
Bai Chunyu added, "Alerting the enemy is not the move of the wise. Besides—"
He narrowed his eyes and, in a cautionary tone to Wu Di, said, "Always stay humble, no matter where you are. Even if you’re strong now, there are still many beings in this world beyond your imagination."
"You haven’t forgotten what happened before, have you?"
