I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors? Chapter 608: A Different Entrance Assessment
Previously on I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors?...
"I humbly request the Martial God to point out the way."
With deep respect etched on his face, Jiang Yan bowed deeply.
Chu Feng responded calmly, "As the ancient saying warns, heavenly secrets should not be revealed. Should you succeed in this seat's trial and enter my Wendao Sect, I will unveil the hidden truth to you. If you choose to descend the mountain, this seat won't compel you to remain."
Upon hearing this, a conflicted expression crossed Jiang Yan's features. Born with a frail body, he held little interest in cultivation and had no desire to bow to any Martial God. His sole aspiration right now was to eradicate all illnesses from the world.
After some time passed, Jiang Yan finally voiced his question, "I venture to inquire, Martial God, might you instruct me in the healing arts to rescue the world?"
"That poses no challenge."
Chu Feng paused briefly before inquiring, "Yet, this seat is curious—why do you seek mastery of these healing arts to save the world?"
"To speak frankly..."
Jiang Yan shared his life story from youth with Chu Feng, revealing the noble dream burning in his soul.
Chu Feng promptly raised a thumb in approval, "Excellent. With such noble aspirations, upon becoming my disciple, this seat will impart exactly what you seek."
Joy lit up Jiang Yan's face at these words, and he declared, "This junior is ready to undergo the senior's test."
Addressing Ji Jiuwu standing close by, Chu Feng instructed, "Jiuwu, from tomorrow onward, guide Jiang Yan through our sect's evaluation. Manage it according to your judgment."
"Your disciple complies."
After acknowledging the order, Ji Jiuwu faced Jiang Yan and said, "Fellow Daoist Jiang, follow me."
A smile played on Chu Feng's lips as he added, "No need to hurry off just yet. Another young one is still climbing the path to the mountain; wait outside for its arrival."
Curiosity flickered in Ji Jiuwu's eyes at this revelation. He turned to Jiang Yan and questioned, "Did you encounter that individual during your ascent?"
Jiang Yan shook his head. "Once I stepped into the fog, no other creatures appeared. I must have arrived sooner than expected."
Chu Feng clarified, "No need for speculation. The approaching one isn't human."
These words stunned both Ji Jiuwu and Jiang Yan momentarily. Yet, their bewilderment soon gave way to eager interest.
Ji Jiuwu, in particular, burned with anticipation to discover the identity of the initial demon seeking entry into the Wendao Sect.
He then escorted Jiang Yan out of the grand hall.
Moments ticked by until the sun hovered near the horizon. Suddenly, the rhythmic clatter of hooves reached Ji Jiuwu and Jiang Yan's ears.
Gazing up the stone path, they spotted a pristine white deer ascending steadily.
Upon noticing them, the white deer addressed them promptly, "Little Deer offers greetings to the two Immortal Elders."
"You're familiar with Immortals?"
Ji Jiuwu's eyes widened in surprise; this marked the first instance he'd heard "Immortal" uttered by any being in this realm, leaving him staring intently at the deer.
"Answering the Immortal Elder, Little Deer discovered in a dream that true longevity demands becoming an Immortal. That fateful day, when purple vapors graced this location, I sensed an Immortal had arrived from the skies, prompting my visit to pay respects."
The white deer spoke with utmost deference.
Jiang Yan, standing aside, felt utterly perplexed. The term "Immortal" was new to him, yet it carried an aura of immense power.
Ji Jiuwu replied, "I'm no Immortal Elder—my master holds that title. If you seek a teacher and wish to acquire abilities, join us in meeting him."
Delight shone in the white deer's eyes, and it responded eagerly, "Kindly guide this humble one, Immortal Master."
The pair and the deer reentered the main hall. The deer's gaze lingered on the hall's majestic setup, captivated.
Soon after, Ji Jiuwu's voice rang out near the deer, "Master, your disciple has fetched the fated deer."
The white deer instinctively glanced ahead. One look sufficed to buckle its legs, sending it kneeling with a heavy thump.
Having roamed the Four Seas and Eight Wastelands, it had beheld Martial Gods and Demon Emperors, yet none exuded the ethereal Immortal presence of the figure now before it. Above all, the radiant luck aura surrounding him felt utterly otherworldly.
"Little Deer greets the Immortal Master."
"Rise, no need for formalities."
Observing the immaculate white deer, Chu Feng's eyes sparkled. The luck light radiating from it rivaled that of Ji Jiuwu and Jiang Yan. Could this be the embodiment of this world's sacred beast?
"Gratitude, Immortal Elder."
The white deer sensed no malice from this Immortal Elder, easing its tension with a quiet breath.
Chu Feng inquired, "Do you desire to take this seat as your master?"
"Indeed."
The white deer affirmed respectfully.
Chu Feng spoke measuredly, "The Dao demands careful transmission. Moreover, this seat instructs the human race, while you hail from the demon race. What reason compels me to impart Immortal techniques to you?"
The white deer's heart raced at this, but it swiftly understood—the Immortal Master was merely probing, not refusing.
After a quick think, an idea struck it. "The Immortal Master teaches without bias. Though Little Deer belongs to the demon race, I have committed no harm to the natural order. Surely, the Immortal Master will welcome me as a disciple."
A faint smile curved Chu Feng's lips. "Taking you as a disciple isn't out of the question. First, achieve human form, and then you may pledge yourself to this seat. Until then, train daily with Jiuwu in the breathing exercises. Attend this seat's lectures on the first and fifteenth of each month to absorb the teachings."
Euphoria overwhelmed the white deer, and it exclaimed, "My deepest thanks, Immortal Master."
"Very well, you are dismissed."
With a casual wave, Chu Feng vanished from view.
Ji Jiuwu proceeded to settle the human and deer within the Wendao Sect.
The arrival of these two fresh members infused the Wendao Sect with newfound energy and bustle.
Chu Feng's routine, however, remained largely unchanged. One day, after completing his cultivation, Ji Jiuwu asked, "Master, when do you plan to formally accept Ah Yan as your disciple?"
"Are you so eager to claim the role of senior brother?"
Chu Feng teased with a grin.
"It's not that, Master. Your disciple simply recognizes Jiang Yan's solid character; he's bound to achieve fame throughout the Four Seas and Eight Wastelands someday. That's my reason for asking."
"It won't be long."
With that brief reply, Chu Feng ended the topic.
Ji Jiuwu hurried off to share the promising update with Jiang Yan.
Currently, Jiang Yan was experimenting with an unfamiliar flower, curious about its properties.
Entering, Ji Jiuwu recognized the scene but held back, waiting until Jiang Yan consumed the vibrant bloom before announcing, "Ah Yan, I bring excellent tidings."
Even as he spoke, Jiang Yan's complexion in the yard shifted to a deep violet. Agony twisted his features, and he collapsed heavily to the earth.
Witnessing this, Ji Jiuwu's expression turned grave. He dashed toward his master's courtyard without delay. In mere moments, he reached the entrance and cried out, "Master, disaster has struck!"
