I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors? Chapter 607 The Youth Jiang Yan
Previously on I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors?...
This man is actually enjoying it!!!
The Thunder Qilin stared at the man in front of him, who seemed to relish the heavenly lightning bath. His eyes widened like massive lanterns, almost bursting from his head.
Once more than a dozen strikes of heavenly lightning had struck, Cao Youqian flexed his limbs. Grinning, he remarked: "Powerful stuff. It's been ages since I felt a thunder bath this intense. Too bad it's just a tad lacking; if not, I might've broken through to a higher realm."
"Great... Great Shaman, just what sort of divine entity are you?"
The Thunder Qilin inquired in a feeble tone.
Cao Youqian eyed the Thunder Qilin swishing its tail nearby. He extended a hand, patted its head, and chuckled: "Weren't you eager to visit that spot where the heavenly phenomenon appeared?"
Even though the Thunder Qilin couldn't fathom how this individual knew his innermost desires, it nodded in agreement anyway.
"Truth be told, This Seat emerged from precisely that location. And stop addressing This Seat as Great Shaman. This Seat holds the title of Body Cultivation Ancestor in this realm!"
With these words from Cao Youqian, an overwhelming aura emanated from his form. A colossal Dharma manifestation, towering dozens of zhang, loomed across the skies and earth. Combined with the earlier spectacle, this aura made him resemble a Demon God descended into the mortal realm right then.
"Xiao Lei pays respects to Master."
The Thunder Qilin was utterly persuaded in that instant. It dropped to the ground, lowering its head in submission to the figure, a notion flashing through its thoughts: Might this being be a heir of the fabled Innate Demon God? If that's the case, serving as his mount wouldn't bring any shame.
"Stand up."
Cao Youqian assisted the Thunder Qilin to its feet and grinned: "This Seat plans to roam the Four Seas today. Once I've savored enough excitement, I'll bring you back to that place bathed in the light of fortune."
"Many thanks, Master."
The Thunder Qilin replied, its features alight with thrill. It had never imagined reaching that destination one day. Given that a descendant of a Demon God had shown up there, surely even mightier beings awaited within.
Cao Youqian inquired: "Are you able to shrink down a bit?"
"Certainly."
No sooner had the Thunder Qilin spoken than its frame compressed dramatically, reducing to the proportions of a full-grown water buffalo.
"Excellent, stay that size."
Satisfaction crossed Cao Youqian's expression. He then vaulted onto the Thunder Qilin's back, stroked its horn, and commanded: "Onward."
"Master, to where shall we head?" The Thunder Qilin questioned, appearing puzzled.
"Anywhere that strikes your fancy. If there's vengeance you seek against someone, lead This Seat there." Cao Youqian responded with a grin, as though nothing in this world concerned him in the least.
"Got it."
The Thunder Qilin was already mulling over which divine beast to target for payback first.
At the same time, at the base of Slanting Moon Mountain.
A young man with a bamboo basket on his back halted, gazing up at the majestic peak piercing the clouds. He scanned his surroundings, pondering inwardly: Was it this mountain that the light struck? From the looks of it, folks dwell up there. Should I climb?
The young man mulled it over briefly before resolving to ascend and check, in case he overlooked some chance.
He took a few strides and quickly reached a stone stele. Staring at the inscriptions upon it, he murmured them unwittingly: "Wendao Sect, education without discrimination. Does a peerless master reside on this peak? I wonder if that master knows a thing or two about herbs?"
After voicing this, the young man pressed on along the stone path. Sunlight warmed his figure, stretching his silhouette longer across the ground.
Upon Slanting Moon Mountain, Ji Jiuwu had wrapped up his dawn routine. As he readied himself to split logs and fetch water, his Master's voice echoed in his ears.
"Jiuwu, a visitor will arrive at my Wendao Sect today. Go welcome them."
"Understood."
Ji Jiuwu saluted toward Chu Feng's dwelling. Afterward, he headed down the trail. With the arrival still pending, he figured he'd practice a little more.
Moments ticked by. Come midday, Ji Jiuwu caught the steady rhythm of approaching steps. He promptly lifted his gaze and peered toward the noise. There, a young man toting a basket ascended the slope.
The ascending youth spotted Ji Jiuwu too. As his clan's senior heir, he'd encountered plenty in life, yet never anyone as ethereal as this figure. He figured only the mythical Divine Descendants could exude such grace.
The youth promptly bent in respect and declared: "Jiang Yan salutes the Divine Descendant."
Hearing this, Ji Jiuwu rose swiftly. "Fellow, no need for formalities. I'm no Divine Descendant—just a humble practitioner on Slanting Moon Mountain. Besides, I've only been here a short while."
Jiang Yan blinked in surprise at these words, wondering: Have I wandered to the incorrect spot?
Yet the site around him wasn't some ordinary human settlement. It rivaled the Dragon Palace or the Martial God Temple his grandfather had described.
He hesitated briefly before saying: "I understand. Looks like I've erred in my path. I'll head back down now."
"Hold on."
Ji Jiuwu halted him and queried: "Might I inquire as to your purpose here?"
Jiang Yan saw no reason to conceal it and gradually recounted: "Several days back, I witnessed an omen of good fortune landing here, so I came to explore."
"Then you've arrived at the right place."
Ji Jiuwu beamed and explained: "The omen you beheld was Heaven's gift of fortune to my Wendao Sect. Your presence here indicates a fated bond with my Wendao Sect. Come along, let's meet my Master."
???
Jiang Yan's face filled with bewilderment at the other's eagerness. From what he knew, such an omen would spark conflicts among the myriad races. Even humans would clash over it. So why was this person willing to let him in on the fortune?
But having journeyed this far, he'd take a peek at what this omen entailed. He trailed Ji Jiuwu toward the grand palace ahead. The vast hall stood vacant, yet its splendor held his gaze captive. Unbeknownst to himself, he lost himself in its allure.
"Fellow, kindly wait here a bit. Master will awaken shortly."
Ji Jiuwu's voice snapped Jiang Yan from his trance. He gave an embarrassed nod to the other.
Right then, a silhouette materialized from nowhere inside the hall. The abrupt arrival startled Jiang Yan. He looked up at the figure, only to find it wrapped in a glow that obscured its features entirely.
"Disciple pays respects to Master."
"Junior pays respects to the Martial God."
"No need for ceremonies."
Chu Feng uttered these two words softly as the pair spoke.
With that, Jiang Yan could finally make out the one seated upon the throne. But a single look made him avert his eyes in awe.
Chu Feng also examined the youth standing there. The fortune surrounding him was in no way inferior to Ji Jiuwu's. He then spoke:
"Young one, I've learned why you've sought out my Wendao Sect. What I can reveal is that you arrived a touch late; that light of fortune has faded away. Should you desire to witness it once more, only one path remains."
