I Only Wanted A Class In The Apocalypse Chapter 1981: Preparing For Battle

Moth paused, his unspoken implication clear enough for Hye to understand the deeper meaning behind his words without further explanation.
Following the severe turmoil that had afflicted the Hescos Empire and their homeland, the Hescon leaders harbored a deep-seated distrust towards their own kin. This mistrust was particularly amplified by their significant setbacks on the Outer Battlefield, which paradoxically coincided with the ascendancy of the Toranks.
The more Hye pondered the situation, the more suspicious it all seemed.
He could readily surmise the true purpose behind the Hescos Elder's journey to the Outer Battlefield.
"Should we anticipate imminent trouble then?" Hye inquired, his gaze sweeping across their surroundings. The Eastern Wing, contrary to its name, resembled less of a fortified structure and more of a rudimentary military encampment.
In stark contrast to the imposing high walls and formidable defenses typically characterizing the region, the walls encircling this wing were notably short and insubstantial. Defenses were sparse, appearing to have more gaps than actual protective measures.
From any perspective Hye considered it, the location presented itself as a veritable death trap rather than a sanctuary for rest and habitation.
"The Eastern Wing is hardly a suitable place for us to linger," Moth affirmed Hye's burgeoning concerns. "It's designed for transient stays, intended for casual visitors. Consequently, a wing of this nature is ill-suited for individuals of my standing. Not to mention, it offers virtually no defensive capabilities against any potential assaults."
"You speak as if you're bracing for a confrontation tonight," Hye smirked mischievously. "However, this presents no issue. Even with our forces potentially divided, I've left a highly capable individual in charge back there."
"As have I," Moth revealed a similar contingency, mirroring Hye's foresight. "If a conflict is indeed forthcoming, it should materialize soon. We've only just completed a lengthy journey, and an intuition suggests the Toranks' maneuver was far from coincidental."
Hye reflected on the rapid escalation of events since their arrival. It was glaringly apparent that the Toranks had meticulously prepared for their presence in this location. Now, he understood the underlying reason for this elaborate scheme.
Once again, it pointed to treachery. Once again, it signified a betrayal originating from within the Hescos ranks, targeting their Elders and senior leadership. And once again, it was a perfidious act orchestrated by the Toranks.
The entire scenario struck Hye as comically familiar, leaving him entirely unfazed and untroubled. If anything, a sense of exhilaration coursed through him, and for good reason.
Given the considerable distance they had traversed, the distant stone pillar, initially a faint silhouette upon their arrival, now stood in much sharper relief. Inscribed upon it were countless names, myriad missions and tasks, and tantalizing rewards.
Among the highest-tier objectives was a directive to eliminate a specific number of adversaries within the initial week of their stay. Hye noted that the task offered no distinction between eliminating foes from his native universe or those from another.
Upon inquiry, Moth elucidated that this monolithic structure was not a product of the system itself. Instead, it was governed by whatever entity held sway over the Outer Battlefield – an entity some referred to as a higher power, others as a deity. Yet, to Hye, it represented a significant, glaring reason why their faction was faltering in this war.
The existence of such an alluring mission, encouraging internecine conflict rather than a unified assault against their common enemies, was astounding.
A solitary admonition against eliminating individuals from one's own universe was sufficient to dramatically alter the entire strategic landscape. This realization prompted Hye to question the genuine allegiance and concealed motives of the power orchestrating this monolith and the tasks it presented.
The loftiest objectives encompassed the establishment of a stronghold within the Outer Battlefield, the subjugation and clearing of a designated zone, and the expansion of their universe's territorial dominion beyond its current confines.
Achieving any of these feats would bestow upon the individual the esteemed title of a Prodigy. According to Moth's account, throughout the history of their universe's engagement in the Outer Battlefield, the number of Prodigies had been strictly limited.
And Hye harbored a strong desire to ascend to such a rank.
However, his immediate priority was to confront the impending conflict within the next few hours and assess the subsequent course of action.
Moth was correct; this wing was indeed the least viable location for mounting a defensive engagement. Just as Hye issued Lily the command to strategically position their forces along the parapets in preparation for battle, it became abundantly clear that attempting to defend this wing would be a futile endeavor.
The deficiency extended beyond the low walls; there was a critical lack of fundamental defensive structures capable of repelling any encroaching army. Even a thorough search of Hye's inventory for potent weaponry yielded little of significant value.
The situation was identical for Moth and the Hescos contingent. It was evident that the Hescos had never prioritized equipping themselves with defensive armaments, relying entirely on their formidable base in the Outer Battlefield for such necessities.
Yet, this did not deter Hye.
"We need to adapt our strategy," Hye stated, displeased with the precarious outlook. He disdained engaging in battles destined for defeat. "Let's utilize our existing assets and deploy the ships."
Abruptly, his warriors began to bring forth the vessels they had previously salvaged. The Outer Battlefield was not an environment conducive to ships, as they typically hovered mere dozens of meters above the ground. However, for Hye, this was sufficient to inspire innovation and repurpose these ships for the impending engagement.
Moth initially had second thoughts when he witnessed Hye drawing out his entire fleet of ships. However, as he observed the vessels arranging themselves around the fortifications, forming a substantial line along the Easter Wing, Moth comprehended Hye's strategy. The deployment of the ships as the vanguard for their defense zone was unconventional. Yet, Moth recognized the potent support their cannons and shields would offer. This was further bolstered by the ships that Hye strategically positioned from the other universe. Moth, without a moment's delay, instructed his forces to replicate the humans' tactic. Over the subsequent hours, extensive maneuvers took place, and the entire wing was reshaped into what resembled a celestial stronghold, encircled by numerous ships of varying sizes. The Hescos lacked the inter-universal vessels that Hye possessed, leading them to position their grand flagships at the very front. Moth's objective was to maximize the utility of their robust shields, formidable cannons, and sheer size to draw enemy fire. The medium-sized ships were designated as the primary offensive force, while the smaller vessels were purposed for infiltration and disruption within the enemy's formation.
