I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 959: Outsourcing and Returns
Previously on I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality...
More than ten years later, the dozen or so high-level wizards who had once taken part in the campaign on the Holy Spirit planes gathered once again.
On the empty wasteland stood a platform built of metal.
Besides those dozen-odd familiar faces, the platform now also held Wizard Fate, Wizard Starfall, and three beings that gave off an unusual aura.
Those three were the plane wizards, though they had followed the other wizards’ example and shrunk their bodies down considerably.
Even shrunk, however, they remained quite conspicuous in size.
Number One was the most conspicuous of them all. Pale blue law patterns flowed across the surface of its body, and its mental energy fluctuated, lively and nimble. Standing alongside the other two sixth-level plane wizards, it took up nearly two-thirds of the platform.
The other two plane wizards were somewhat smaller, floating quietly behind Starfall.
After arriving, Jie Ming spoke with each wizard in turn, collecting the knowledge they had worked out over these years.
Ever since he had discovered that World Nesting Technology was connected to the Central World, and had fully grasped how difficult the technology was, his first reaction had been to outsource it.
Just as he had done with those ninth-level creations before, he taught them the relevant knowledge, on the agreement that they would afterward hand their research results back to Jie Ming as payment.
Given enough time, it would naturally suit him to study every technology slowly on his own.
But when time was short, borrowing other people’s wisdom was the optimal solution.
On the other side, once the high-level wizards learned of the connection between this technology and the Central World, it was not only the dozen or so high-level wizards who had worked alongside him before; even Wizard Fate and Wizard Starfall had each asked for a copy.
So what Jie Ming was doing now was collecting the research results one by one.
“A rich harvest.” Jie Ming tallied up the returns he had received, unable to keep a smile off his face.
The returns, one could say, were remarkably good, and the most solid knowledge among them came, naturally, from Mentor Clark.
Drawing on his own advantage of having mastered all the laws, Clark had run deep cross-validation between the spatial compression algorithms in World Nesting Technology and the various laws, filling in the parameters of several blank nodes in the nesting technology.
Building on the technology Clark had completed, Teacher Kastilla had applied the nesting technology’s compression logic in reverse to her own research into the life law. She had developed a new technique that could compress the structure of biological tissue at the microscopic scale, which in turn filled the nesting technology’s gap in biological compatibility.
Wizard Fate’s returns were the ones Jie Ming had looked forward to most, but once he saw them he felt somewhat let down.
Not that they were useless. Wizard Fate had combined World Nesting Technology with the fate of this world cluster in his measurements, and had at last caught hold of the specific fate line of the Central World.
Strictly speaking, that was indeed important, but its limitations were too great; in future research it could only serve as a worked example for reference.
Beyond that, the returns from the other high-level wizards were a good deal more scattered.
After all, the time had been far too short, and the results they could produce were limited.
Even so, as Jie Ming took in this knowledge piece by piece, he was quite pleased.
After all, these high-level wizards would hand back technology and understanding of differing depth according to their own standard.
That way, as long as he kept studying these techniques of differing depth, he could progress from the shallow to the deep and understand World Nesting Technology all the better.
Every wizard’s body of knowledge was different, and those differences in themselves amounted to reading the same technology from many angles.
On the other hand, the wizards who had traded also felt they had come out ahead.
Normally, because the rules of each plane origin differ, the evolutionary systems of the populations living within the planes differ markedly as well.
Wizards who stayed stationed on different planes for too long would all, to a greater or lesser degree, research some spells for adapting to alien environments, and blend them into their own wizarding knowledge.
When these wizards returned to the wizard civilization, they would, without even noticing, add their own contribution to its rich and varied body of knowledge.
What Jie Ming had done amounted to speeding up this process.
Relying on technology researched by the human civilization of the previous era, he was letting the wizards adapt to the rules of the Central World ahead of time.
So this round of trading could be called a happy outcome for everyone.
Once everything had been collected, Jie Ming swiftly integrated all the knowledge in his spiritual sea.
The complete architecture of World Nesting Technology gradually took shape in his mind. Together with the core data he had obtained from the ruins himself, the whole technology chain was now essentially complete.
It was at this point that Wizard Fate spoke. “Using the pull that World Nesting Technology provides, I have found the time and place for passage to the Central World.”
His voice was not loud, but everyone fell quiet to listen.
“When exactly?” Jie Ming asked.
“Now,” Wizard Fate said. “But before going in, you need to learn a spell.”
Kastilla took up the thread. “I used World Nesting Technology to modify a protective spell a while ago. It should be able to withstand the Central World’s special conditions. Anyone who needs it can trade with me.”
At that, the other wizards present naturally stepped forward one after another to trade.
Jie Ming naturally had no need to trade; Teacher Kastilla had already given him the principles of this spell as part of her returns.
“Still… this spell is a bit of a hassle.” Jie Ming could not help scratching his head.
The protective spell could indeed let the wizards adapt effectively to the Central World’s special environment, but its drawback was just as obvious: it had to be sustained continuously with the caster’s own power.
That would affect the wizards’ fighting strength to some extent, and only the wizards themselves could enter; the cannon-fodder legions could not.
In other words, on this trip into the Central World, the only thing they could rely on was themselves, the high-level wizards.
But…
At this thought, Jie Ming looked at Clark, then at Wizard Fate beside him, then turned his head to look at the three plane wizards behind him, and his expression settled into calm.
Never mind, then.
No cannon-fodder legions? Fine, no cannon-fodder legions.
With the fighting strength of this crowd, they would simply tear through everything in their path.
Once everyone had finished preparing, Wizard Fate raised his hand.
His movement was slow, but everyone sensed some extremely subtle change.
The space in front of him suddenly began to ripple. Those complex folds of space opened out page by page at his fingertips like a book being leafed through, and every layer of spatial structure was precisely adjusted to its weakest state.
Then he aligned these weak points with the spatial coordinates of the Central World and, using the pull parameters of World Nesting Technology, locked onto the one and only viable combination among countless possibilities.
The spot Wizard Fate had picked out “happened” to fall at the very instant when the whole plane cluster, and indeed the whole world cluster, was at its weakest.
And that weak point “happened” to coincide with the Central World’s spatial coordinates.
At this moment, the power of the entire world cluster “happened” to be twisting toward that one point…
In that very instant, countless coincidences that should scarcely have been possible converged on the same point under the pull of the Fate Law.
Wizard Fate reached out and slashed, and space was silently cut open in a fissure.
It looked like an extremely fine line, stretching straight off in an unknown direction.
From deep within the fissure came an extremely faint pull. The force carried no sense of threat whatsoever, yet every wizard present felt a kind of instinctive stirring.
“That is… the Central World!”
Jie Ming felt the aura tugging at his very heart and mind, and his eyes lit up.
