I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 942: Ambush and the End

Ten days later, the battle was still going on.
The coordination between Jie Ming, Viola and Berta Vera grew more and more seamless, and without quite noticing it, the three of them had settled into a fixed pattern of battle.
Jie Ming was the main damage dealer, and took every one of the parasite’s attacks head-on.
Viola shrouded the parasite’s body in the Law of Pain, forcing brief lags and stiffness into its movements and creating openings for Jie Ming to fight.
Berta Vera, meanwhile, darted along the edges of the battlefield, cleaning up one by one the worm bodies Jie Ming had smashed apart that were not yet fully dead, to stop the fragments from joining back together.
Jie Ming caught the hundreds of worm whips lashing at him in one hand, and closed his fingers, clenching the squirming worm bodies tight in his palm.
The worm whips struggled wildly in his grip, trying to retract into the mountain range’s main body, but Jie Ming’s strength left them unable to move.
At once Viola released the Law of Pain. The greyish-white light crept along the rocky shell, straight down to the roots where the worm bodies joined the main body.
Under the savage pain, the parasite’s body went rigid for an instant. Jie Ming seized the chance to gather his strength, and his other hand came down as a fist.
Wrapped in the twofold boost of the Great Annihilation Divine Light and Light God Transformation, the fist smashed the hundreds of worm whips in his hand clean through the middle.
The severed worm bodies twitched in the air, and Berta Vera followed close behind to grind them to dust, leaving them no chance of ever joining back together.
And so, bit by bit, the three of them wore down their enemy’s strength.
Ordinarily, the three of them could never have matched this parasite on energy reserves alone.
But whenever Viola’s or Berta Vera’s mental energy slipped, Jie Ming would use the Ash Return to Origin Hand to restore them to their peak.
What was more, Jie Ming himself drew on the Incense Fire Divine Dao’s cross-space energy transmission system, and had an unbroken supply of energy.
With a tactical cycle like this, the scales of victory were tipping toward them, slowly but surely.
Just as the battle was going more and more smoothly, Berta Vera suddenly stopped short.
Her pupils contracted sharply, and a burst of mental fluctuation exploded among the three of them. “Look out!”
At the same moment, Jie Ming’s Return to Ruins Armor broke under the parasite’s counterattack.
Seizing that opening, an unseen attack came in from the side, instantly punching through the Dharma Form’s protective layer, and running through Jie Ming’s puppet body at its core along with it.
The attack had neither form nor substance; only after it had passed clean through did it leave an extremely faint white trail in the air.
A hole the size of a fist had been punched through the chest of Jie Ming’s puppet, and inside the body its broken metal skeleton and components were clearly visible.
Several figures emerged from the void, and their appearance matched an ordinary person’s idea of “angels” to perfection.
Humanoid outlines and long, slender limbs, with one or more pairs of wings spread at their backs, giving off a pale golden light.
They wore silver-white battle armour and held long, slender weapons, and their faces were exquisite.
Right now obvious astonishment had surfaced on those faces; they were plainly taken aback that Jie Ming had turned out to be a puppet.
But Jie Ming was not caught flat-footed.
The instant the puppet was run through, he struck back with the Great Annihilation Divine Light.
Colourless light welled out of his palm and soundlessly engulfed the two nearest angels.
They did not even have time to react before their bodies dissolved into elementary particles in the divine light.
At the same time Jie Ming raised a new Return to Ruins Armor; the force field gathered again and kept the invisible attacks that followed outside.
He cast the Ash Return to Origin Hand, and greyish-white radiance covered the puppet’s pierced chest. The fist-sized hole closed up at a speed visible to the naked eye, and the churning broken components slotted back into place.
A few breaths later, the puppet was as good as new.
“Honestly, resorting to dirty tricks. Good thing it was you they hit, Jie Ming.” Viola said it lightly enough, but her expression was deadly serious.
“Senior Sister, now you’ve gone and made me unhappy.”
In the middle of that seemingly easy banter, the three of them warily fell back and drew together again.
Jie Ming swept a quick look over the angels’ armour and weapons, and his pupils contracted slightly.
The rune patterns on the surface of that armour, the energy circuits etched into those weapons: he had seen them before.
They were exactly the same as the patterns of the unknown technological system behind the birdmen, which Berta Vera had shared earlier.
Berta Vera had recognised the patterns too. The two of them exchanged a look, and each saw the same conclusion in the other’s eyes.
“Looks like this should be the higher civilisation that stood behind the birdmen,” Jie Ming said in a low voice.
What was more, from the lively expressions and independent combat reactions of these angels, they had not been parasitised.
The earlier opposition between the birdmen and the insect-men had been staged.
No! Perhaps, as far as the birdmen were concerned, they really were opposed to the insect-men.
After all, in the eyes of the angels, a primitive civilisation like the birdmen might not even deserve to be told the truth.
The angels and the insect-men had perhaps come to some kind of tacit understanding, each playing a different role in front of the birdmen while steering the birdmen’s actions.
With the insect-men and the angels scheming together, if the wizards had not suddenly entered as an unexpected variable, they might well have pulled it off.
“Watch out for their weapons,” Jie Ming warned aloud. “Those things can break through energy defences.”
The words had barely left his mouth when Berta Vera went out to meet them of her own accord.
“I’ve got this!”
She was extremely fast, her figure drawing out an afterimage through the air.
The angels were still growing in number, surfacing out of the void one after another, and every one of them gave off seventh-level energy fluctuations.
But for Berta Vera, this was actually the kind of battlefield she excelled at most!
She threw a punch; electromagnetic force erupted and sent the three nearest angels flying at once.
The angels’ armour caved in and buckled under Berta Vera’s attack, but their weapons stabbed out at the same moment.
The invisible attacks grazed past Berta Vera’s shoulder and sheared a corner off her wizard robe, yet they could do nothing to harm her body itself.
Berta Vera gave a casual tug, and the brainwaves of an angel beside her that had been trying to attack her were thrown into disorder; it could not help faltering to a halt.
And by the time its scrambled brainwaves had pulled themselves back together, what it saw was its own chest, run clean through.
Seeing this, the parasite and the other angels charged in together!
But Jie Ming and Viola were already right behind her.
“Go! Let’s show these guys what despair looks like!” Viola bellowed gleefully.
Jie Ming charged the parasite head-on, the Return to Ruins Armor running at full power as he took the stabbing worm whips on it.
At the same time he kept releasing the Great Annihilation Divine Light from his palm, destroying the worm bodies in front of him again and again.
Viola’s Law of Pain covered the whole battlefield. Its greyish-white light kept seeping into the angels’ minds, slowing their movements and giving the other two openings to fight.
And so the long battle went on for another half year.
The angels’ corpses carpeted the ground, and silver-white armour and broken wings lay scattered across every corner of the battlefield.
Under the steady attrition the parasite had shrunk to only a quarter of its original size, and its energy reserves were at last nearly exhausted.
At some point the angels’ reinforcements stopped altogether, as if the higher civilisation behind them had finally realised the battle was beyond saving and chosen to give up.
At last, the parasite let out a wail.
Jie Ming landed in front of the parasite’s shrunken body, the light of the Great Annihilation Divine Light gathered on his fist.
He raised his fist, took aim at the last colony of worm bodies still struggling at the parasite’s core, and brought it down in a single punch!
The light exploded, and the last cluster of worm bodies was reduced to nothing in the divine light.
The parasite’s aura dispersed completely, leaving behind only a huge crater and ground strewn with the remains of worm bodies.
