I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 872: Rescue

~6 minute read · 1,429 words

Since Mentor Clark’s was out of the question, Azrael’s was naturally out of the question too.

That left options that were not really worth agonizing over.

Jie Ming and Viola each picked at random a fragment of space holding a sixth-level wizard of the Scarlet Hive, and prepared to go to their aid.

Before setting out, Viola suddenly looked at the Scarlet Hive wizard she had rescued earlier. “What about you?”

Jie Ming swept a glance over the wizard as well. “Are you planning to rest here, or come along with us to help?”

The wizard immediately waved his hands and shook his head. “No, no. I’ll just find somewhere safe and stay put.”

Viola tilted her head. “Fine. Go find a safe area and stay there, then. Best if you hide and don’t wander around.”

The wizard nodded hurriedly. “No problem!”

Watching him sit down where he was and begin treating his injuries, Jie Ming and Viola said nothing further and set about analyzing the fragments of space they had each chosen.

While using the All-Purpose Eye to scan the fragment’s structure, Jie Ming took the opportunity to glance at the state of the battle inside, and his expression turned rather odd.

“Come to think of it, the Crimson Court’s wizards really do have an outrageous knack for staying alive.”

Inside the fragment of space he had chosen, a sixth-level wizard was being hunted furiously by a spatial fold beast.

What was passing between them could no longer be called a fight at all; it was purely a one-sided beating.

That wizard looked even more wretched than the Scarlet Hive wizard beside them. His robe had long since been reduced to ruin, most of his body had been shaved away, and there was even a huge wound on his head running all the way from forehead to chin.

Injuries on that scale were not serious for a wizard, but seeing that they had failed to close all this time, his soul itself had evidently taken heavy damage as well.

And yet, for all that, the wizard simply would not die.

A claw of the spatial fold beast came down; he twisted aside by the narrowest of margins, and even fished out a mouthful of healing potion and poured it down his throat on the way.

His shield unfurled just barely in time and blocked the creature’s other claw.

Then he used the force of that shield being torn apart to open the distance again.

And on it went: running and dodging, healing himself as he went, even finding a spare moment now and then to fling an attack spell back over his shoulder… though it did not accomplish much.

His mental energy fluctuations showed him to be like a candle guttering in the wind, and yet he never actually fell below the line of death.

“He can survive even that, and it looks like he can hold on a good while longer…” Jie Ming clicked his tongue in wonder.

Viola, drawn over by his words, took a couple of looks and started laughing as well:

“That’s normal. The Crimson Court’s philosophy of war means their wizards’ capacity for survival is far and away better than that of the other three great powers.”

The Crimson Court had always favored feeding its forces in piecemeal, throwing wave after wave of troops into high-intensity war.

A wizard who grew up in that environment and was not good enough at staying alive would have died on a plane battlefield long ago.

So their combat power was not necessarily strong, but when it came to escaping with their lives from a hopeless situation, each of them was better at it than the last.

Take the wizard in there who had already been beaten to a pulp: wretched as his condition was, there was no need to worry, because he looked as though he could take a great deal more of it yet.

“There’s actually a fair bit worth learning here.”

Jie Ming smiled and turned his attention back to his study, and before long he had finished analyzing the fragment’s structure and found the way into that space.

“Got it. I’m going in first.”

Jie Ming said as much to Viola beside him, then used his mental energy to find the gap in the spatial rift, tore it open, and entered that independent battlefield.

Viola said nothing much, only nodded.

Before he went in, Jie Ming saw her tear open the mouth of another spatial rift in the same way and fly into it as a streak of light.

…

…

Jie Ming stepped into that independent space, and the instant he was through, the Dharma Form he had compressed down to ordinary human size was abruptly released.

Boom!

A vast blazing-white radiance swelled thunderously out of his body like an exploding star.

A giant two hundred and fifty thousand kilometers tall descended in ferocious majesty, its immense body all but filling the entire battlefield.

The spatial fold beast, bent low over its prey and tearing at it, had no time even to turn its head before a white palm vast enough to blot out the sky came down from above.

Bang!

The transparent spatial ripples writhed madly beneath that giant palm, swiftly reached their limit, and began to warp and break.

The spatial fold beast’s body, congealed out of spatial structure, began to show dense cracks spreading from the point where the palm touched it.

The cracks raced outward, and the whole behemoth, like a transparent crystal struck by an enormous hammer, shattered in an instant into a sky full of fragments of space.

Then every one of those fragments was ground utterly to nothing by that terrible power.

The spatial fold beast had not managed even one complete counterattack before Jie Ming crushed it dead with a single palm!

The speed with which the fight ended was outrageous; absurd, even.

So much so that the Scarlet Hive wizard on the ground, only just dragged back from the brink of death, stared at the scene before him and was, for a moment, actually dumbstruck.

He raised his head in a daze and looked at that blazing white giant, his eyes full of the blankness of a man who had survived catastrophe, and of fear and shock rising in him despite himself.

Jie Ming did not give him much time to collect himself. “Record the spatial fluctuation data this spatial fold beast left behind. Then come with me!”

The enormous voice issued from the Dharma Form, shaking the whole fragment of space into a faint tremor.

The wizard finally came back to himself, and at once, his limbs somewhat stiff, arranged himself into the posture of a wizard’s salute.

“Yes!”

With that, he did not spare a thought even for his own injuries, quickly casting several observation-type spells and recording the residual spatial fluctuations around him bit by bit.

Jie Ming was not idle either; he likewise set about picking the next fragment of space to enter and analyzing it.

A few minutes later the wizard finished his recording, and Jie Ming took him out of that fragment first, back to the fragment of space he had been in before.

After that, Jie Ming followed the same procedure into fragment after fragment, pulling people out.

Viola, on her side, was no idler either, shuttling swiftly between one fragment of space and the next on the strength of the Law of Pain’s own formidable capacity for sustained combat.

Between the two of them, one on the left and one on the right, they swept the place almost clean, rescuing one Scarlet Hive wizard after another.

And to the Scarlet Hive wizards being rescued, these two were nothing short of monsters!

The spatial fold beasts they themselves had to give everything against just to survive by luck were, in front of these two, as fragile as toys.

The giant of light especially was absurdly strong!

The vast majority of spatial fold beasts could not take a single slap from him.

Going by the gap in combat power between the two sides, did that not mean that all of them put together could not withstand a single slap from him either?

For that reason, when Jie Ming hauled the last sixth-level wizard back to the fragment of space, what greeted him were the gazes of these Scarlet Hive wizards, awed to the point of fear.
