I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 835: Nesting Dolls

~7 minute read · 1,655 words

Seeing the enemy already stripped of his combat power, Jie Ming did not hesitate. The Dharma Form rushed in, ready to finish this fight for good.

But in the very instant Jie Ming was about to succeed, a hair-raising sense of danger surged abruptly from deep in his spine!

Jie Ming’s expression changed sharply. “Who?!”

There was no time at all to turn. A gray-black beam of light had already come soundlessly from the depths of the Endless Chaotic Void, so fast that even the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil could barely catch an afterimage of it.

Thud!

The beam struck the Dharma Form’s back hard, and for a beam no thicker than an ordinary man’s finger, the effect was extraordinarily outrageous.

The two-hundred-and-fifty-thousand-kilometer Dharma Form shuddered violently, and then… collapsed with a roar!

Countless fragments scattered across the sky and dispersed as dark golden points of light, and Jie Ming himself was blasted bodily several million kilometers away by that terrible impact.

More terrible still, after breaking the Dharma Form the beam had lost none of its momentum, and blew a huge breach straight through the puppet’s chest.

The puppet’s skeleton, made of transcendent alloy, lay exposed, its flesh scattered across the ground.

Jie Ming barely steadied himself and raised his head to look into the distance.

A figure in a black robe was drawing slowly nearer out of the Endless Chaotic Void.

This one had presumably been hidden within the spatial storm before, which was how he had kept his aura entirely concealed.

And when he showed himself of his own accord, Jie Ming’s expression turned ugly despite himself.

Because this man’s aura was far steadier and heavier than Hogg’s, the fluctuation of his Law Solidification Domain deep as the sea.

Plainly he had been in the seventh-level realm for many years, and was nothing the newly promoted rookie Hogg could compare with.

The newcomer made not the slightest attempt to conceal his momentum; only his face stayed shrouded throughout in a haze of mist, so that his features could not be made out at all.

He first glanced at Hogg, half kneeling in the distance with his body healing rapidly, then settled his gaze back on Jie Ming and clapped lightly.

Clap, clap, clap…

The applause was not loud, but in the Endless Chaotic Void it sounded exceptionally clear.

“Marvelous, truly marvelous! I have seen no few wizards fight above their level, sixth against seventh, but you are the first I have seen very nearly crush a seventh-level wizard head-on.”

“Hogg here may only have been promoted recently, but his strength is not poor either, and I never expected you would be able to fight him to this point… truly a monster!”

There was not much killing intent in the man’s tone; it was more a kind of very nearly appreciative admiration, as though he were examining a work of art.

“Jie Ming, come with me. You have no chance of escape now.”

Jie Ming’s gaze passed slowly over the two of them, and in the end he only sighed lightly:

“Ah… and here I thought there was some great personage standing behind you. Looking at it now, you really were only after those resources? If you want resources, could you not go and earn them yourselves?”

At that Hogg’s face darkened.

But the senior seventh-level laughed softly. “Resources? What we want is of course not merely that.”

At that Jie Ming instinctively held his breath.

The seventh-level wizard slowly spread both hands, undisguised greed in his tone:

“Those apology gifts from the Mobius family are tempting enough, certainly, but as I see it, you yourself are worth a great deal more than those resources!”

“We can let you go on researching, go on publishing results, go on earning military merit. We need only be responsible for collecting the results.”

“We cannot obtain your knowledge, true, but so long as we can take control of your will, we gain a genuine money tree!”

Jie Ming, who had been holding his breath in tension, instead let out a long breath after hearing him out, and a smile even surfaced on his face that could have been either disappointment or relief:

“Ah… I see. So when all is said and done, you really are just robbers.”

The two seventh-level wizards were briefly startled together, and sensing that Jie Ming’s attitude was wrong, both changed color at very nearly the same instant.

“Wrong! Run!”

The senior seventh-level wizard whipped around, trying to cast some spell and escape.

But they had realized it too late.

This seventh-level wizard had just prepared to make a spatial jump when he found that space gave no response at all.

Not only that: the mental energy circulating within him had congealed to the utmost as though frozen, and even his Law Solidification Domain had lost its effect.

Hogg on the other side was in a more wretched state still.

His vast giant of flesh began shrinking rapidly, his various flesh-modification arts failing one after another, and the formerly enormous body quickly reverting to a merely several-hundred-meter humanoid.

Then his legs went out from under him and he collapsed to the ground outright, unable even to stand.

Feeling the changes in their own bodies, both men’s pupils contracted abruptly.

This was… Law Fixation!

And just as horror overwhelmed them, the void beside Jie Ming rippled lightly.

Two figures surfaced slowly out of the ripples.

One wore the Noren Workshop’s standard alchemical robe, his bearing scholarly and composed.

The other kept the appearance of a child, hands clasped behind his back, wearing a lazy expression.

They were precisely Wizard Noren and Grand-Mentor Anton Buchanan, the only two eighth-level wizards the Noren Workshop had.

Looking at the two who had appeared out of thin air, Hogg went utterly rigid, and the senior seventh-level’s face turned ashen.

Eighth level…

And two of them at that!

Anton yawned lazily. “It seems these two really did just come to rob him. Presumably they thought things were chaotic around here lately and wanted to fish in muddy waters.”

Wizard Noren nodded with a smile as well. “Mm. At least for now, there are no other fish.”

In fact, ever since Jie Ming had obtained the Reflection Prism he had never relaxed his guard.

Before arriving at the academic exchange conference he had already reported the matter of the Reflection Prism to Mentor Clark in detail.

Clark, having heard him out, immediately grasped the seriousness of it and contacted his own Mentor without hesitation, which is to say Grand-Mentor Anton Buchanan.

After that, Wizard Noren had been press-ganged along by Grand-Mentor Anton as well.

By the time the academic exchange conference ended the two had already arrived, so on Jie Ming’s way back the two eighth-levels had been escorting him in secret the whole time, precisely to guard against anyone genuinely setting their sights on the Reflection Prism.

The battle just now had been no more than a probe. If someone behind the scenes really had come for the Reflection Prism, they could not possibly have arranged for a mere two seventh-level wizards.

Which was why Grand-Mentor Anton dared draw his conclusion.

Of course, the other side presumably had further hidden strength, such as the accomplice hidden within the academic exchange conference who had passed information to these two.

But it did not matter. Since these were only a pack of people fishing in muddy waters, there was no reason to hold back at all.

Wizard Noren slowly raised a hand, the motion light and casual.

Jie Ming could feel clearly a familiar power being released… alchemy!

Hogg and the senior seventh-level discovered in terror that their own bodies were turning bit by bit into the most basic particles.

Under the effect of the alchemy, everything about their bodies returned rapidly to its most primitive constituent units.

“No!!!”

The two struggled desperately, but before an eighth-level wizard, a seventh-level and an ant were in essence no different.

In the blink of an eye the two figures had vanished completely, as though they had never existed.

But in the same moment the two died, two exceedingly obscure fluctuations shot soundlessly off into the depths of the void.

Anton merely put out one finger and flicked it lightly.

With a snap the two fluctuations burst on the spot like soap bubbles and dispersed into the void.

“Robbery is one thing, but they even wanted to pass a message?” Anton curled his lip, his tone full of disdain.

“The young ones these days have no manners at all.”

Everything settled, Wizard Noren turned to look at Jie Ming, sized him up, and undisguised appreciation showed in his eyes.

“Excellent! A sixth-level defeating a seventh-level head-on. It seems our line has a worthy successor!”

Anton beside him could not help laughing aloud. “Worthy of my disciple’s disciple. Well done!”

Having restored his puppet body with the Ash Return to Origin Hand, Jie Ming rose and bowed to the two of them.

“Thank you both, Grand-Mentors, for stepping in…”

Anton waved a hand, his small face casual. “A trifle. We came here to protect you in the first place. But since it is settled that those two were not after the Reflection Prism, it is time we were going.”

Wizard Noren nodded as well. “Indeed. This is no place to linger. Best to get back inside Star Ring Federation territory as soon as possible; only then are we safe.”

He waved his sleeve lightly, and then the three figures, along with every trace left on this battlefield, dispersed together into the void.
