While the other wizards had fixed their attention on how the technique would help low-level wizards on the battlefield, Savien and the other two had already thought of a good many more possibilities.

Looking at the data now fully laid out on the light screen, Morna turned it over in her mind and spoke slowly despite herself. “Stabilizing life…”

She repeated those words softly, her eyes growing brighter and brighter. “By the data this young fellow has shown… if the data is not lying, this thing could perfectly well be used on the Law Solidification Domain during promotion to the sixth level…”

“It could substantially raise the efficiency of a fifth-level wizard breaking through to sixth-level wizard!” Bastian picked the thread up at once.

“Not only that!” Savien nodded slowly.

“The essence of a Law Solidification Domain is to take the spiritual sea and the law as its core and have the body and soul jointly bear the law, creating a simplified plane barrier.”

“And while a Law Solidification Domain is growing, the spiritual sea and the law as its core are very nearly unaffected, so whether the Law Solidification Domain can grow stably comes down chiefly to the body and the soul. An imbalance in either can bring the whole Law Solidification Domain down. And if the states of both could be stabilized…”

Savien did not say the rest. The three exchanged a look and saw undisguised shock in one another’s eyes.

“If this technique is extended outward, the rate at which sixth-level wizards grow in power is going up another notch!” Bastian clicked his tongue in wonder.

And that was only the most surface, most direct use.

Morna’s thoughts had already carried the derivation further:

“Beyond that use, every high-risk experiment involving the alteration of life, ordinary bodily modification, soul transplantation, organ fusion, could all draw on this technique!”

Savien was thinking further ahead still. “On the combat side, sixth- and seventh-level wizards can both benefit from this technique too.”

Bastian caught up at once, slowly clenching a fist, his tone graver still:

“After the sixth level, what genuinely carries a fight is the Law Solidification Domain. And how stable a Law Solidification Domain is has everything to do with one’s own state of life; the more stable the living body, the more solid the domain naturally becomes.”

“A more solid Law Solidification Domain means higher output and substantially greater protective capability, and even endurance in combat can increase! Indeed…”

At this point Bastian’s voice paused slightly, as though something had occurred to him.

Savien supplied the rest for him:

“Just so. This technique can even provide assistance when a seventh-level wizard assaults the eighth-level bottleneck!”

“After all, in the process of breaking through to the eighth level, control over law is quite important. This technique may not raise a wizard’s control over law directly, but letting a wizard stabilize his own state during the breakthrough is already considerable assistance!”

“Which is to say this thing can even assist a wizard in advancing to the eighth level!” Bastian marveled without end.

Morna shook her head slowly, though, and poured cold water on the two of them:

“It is not as fine as you imagine. To draw on this technique, the premise is that the wizard genuinely possesses the capability to advance to the eighth level. Someone without wisdom enough to support it will not break through a bottleneck out of thin air merely on account of this technique…”

“But for those seventh-level wizards already standing at the threshold…” Savien looked toward Jie Ming on the stage, admiration surfacing undisguised in his eyes.

“This technique may very well become the decisive weight that tips that last threshold over!”

The three fell silent again, and said nothing for a long while.

At length Bastian let out a single line. “Heh! I never expected an exchange conference to produce a technique like this…”

“A pity the technique has no effect at all on eighth-level wizards. On the strength of that little help toward a breakthrough alone, it should not reach the standard of a Level-One Cultivation Protocol.” Morna sighed.

“It does not reach the standard ‘now,’ certainly. But since the technique was developed as an advance on the Self-Stabilizing Field Regulation Protocol in the first place, who is to say whether it might not go on advancing in future?” Savien, though, seemed quite unruffled.

Elsewhere, the wizards present were also gradually realizing how outrageous this technique was.

And so the whole venue finally came thoroughly to the boil, mental fluctuations full of suppressed shock racing back and forth through the hall, countless streams of mental energy interweaving and colliding.

“Is the general applicability of this technique not a bit too broad…”

“A life stability field… no wonder it has that name. There is actually a technique like this?!”

“This has gone completely beyond the framework of the original technique, surely?”

“Indeed. On the basis of the new technique, one could put together a whole new theoretical system!”

“If it is rolled out across the board… the low- and mid-range combat power of the whole wizard civilization is going up substantially again!”

Shock, disbelief, wild delight…

Countless complicated emotions spread rapidly through the hall.

And yet, facing a scene very nearly out of control, Jie Ming, standing on the podium, seemed to notice none of it.
