I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 824: A Misunderstanding
Only once Jie Ming had sat down did the other three show satisfied expressions.
“We have in fact been wanting to meet you for some time. This fellow Savien has brought you up a great many times over the past month.” Morna looked at Savien with a smile, a note of teasing in her tone.
“He never praises anyone unprompted, ordinarily.”
Savien’s expression was calm. “I am only telling the truth, stating facts. This boy’s Self-Stabilizing Field Regulation Protocol has genuinely solved a good many long-standing problems.”
“And after a month of discussion, what I have gained from him is probably no less than what he has gained from me.”
The moment Savien said this, several high-level wizards chatting at the neighboring round tables could not help looking over, surprise flashing in their eyes at the same instant.
After all, they knew Savien’s character all too well. The man was a research maniac, but he also thought very highly of himself.
For him to offer an assessment like that went well beyond simple acknowledgment.
Bastian and Morna understood their old friend better still.
Bastian leaned forward despite himself. “Oh? Then I must hear this in detail.”
Morna nodded slightly as well. “I am rather curious about this young fellow now too.”
Savien, entirely unhurried, fished up a cup of tea from beside him. “This boy is no simple matter. He will certainly do great things in time. Honestly, I have always felt we were merely lucky enough to be born earlier than he was.”
“Oh?!” ×2.
Now Bastian and Morna were genuinely astonished, for that was quite a weighty thing for Savien to say.
Feeling the two men’s gazes, Jie Ming felt he was about to break out in a cold sweat.
“Ahem… Lord Savien flatters me rather too much. I have only been a little luckier than others…”
Jie Ming said this in complete sincerity; he had always felt he really had only been a little lucky.
If nothing else, had a genius like his Mentor or his senior sister obtained the Great Dao Book Pavilion, they would certainly have done better than he had.
At those words from Jie Ming, before the two beside him could say anything, Savien had already turned to look at him in all seriousness:
“Boy, you have seen too little, and you still do not understand how astonishing the things you have produced are.”
Jie Ming: “…Huh?”
Do I understand myself that poorly?
Jie Ming was thoroughly bewildered.
“You may examine this boy’s condition carefully.”
Savien lifted his teacup and took a light sip, his tone flat, stopping up the question Bastian and Morna had not yet had time to voice.
At that, Bastian and Morna both settled their gazes on Jie Ming.
As senior eighth-level wizards, even without deliberately sensing, in their eyes this body of Jie Ming’s held very nearly no secrets to speak of.
In fact, very nearly the moment they had met Jie Ming, the two had confirmed the nature of this body of his: a puppet.
It counted as a fairly advanced flesh-type puppet; its bones, its musculature and its mental energy mimicry had all reached a degree sufficient to pass for the real thing.
The expressions of the two did not change much, though. This sort of thing was entirely ordinary in the wizard world, after all.
Given how madly wizards remade themselves, operating a puppet to walk about outside, as Jie Ming did, counted as quite an ordinary condition.
Still… Savien would not have had them examine a puppet for no reason.
Bastian looked at Jie Ming. “May I?”
“Please do.”
Jie Ming nodded, having gathered roughly what it was that had led Savien to give him so high an assessment.
Permission granted, Bastian and Morna unfolded their mental energy of their own accord, two vast streams of mental energy reaching deep into the puppet’s core at once.
Flesh construction, array tracery, mental energy fluctuation… layer after layer of disguise was peeled away with ease.
Very soon, both of their expressions tightened at once.
They had found one particular place, and it was neither a soul nor a mental imprint, but… a “coordinate.”
More precisely, it was a spatial mapping node in continuous operation.
Jie Ming sighed inwardly, aware that the three of them had probably formed something of a misunderstanding.
What Bastian and Morna had detected was precisely the coordinate point the Mustard Seed Dao-Holding True Body Art used to mark the outside world while the true body and the inner world were in their fused state.
Under normal circumstances, even if Jie Ming deliberately left the coordinate point exposed, only a wizard above the seventh level specializing in spatial knowledge could detect the “coordinate’s” existence.
But as for these three, the only reason they had not discovered the coordinate immediately was that they had instinctively wanted to leave a junior some privacy.
Jie Ming could feel clearly that these two streams of mental energy were steadily sensing the coordinate’s particulars, and yet could not penetrate it, only circle outside.
But although they could not get in for deeper analysis, as great authorities in spatial studies the two still glimpsed the leopard through the tube and gained a fair amount of information.
The other side of this coordinate ought to be connected to another plane.
The state of this plane was somewhat peculiar, though. Rather than existing far away in the Endless Chaotic Void, it genuinely existed, and yet uncannily overlapped with the current space.
The two spaces did not interfere with one another, and yet coexisted with one another.
“This…”
Feeling that technique, so exquisite for all its roughness, Bastian was astounded.
He instinctively began searching his own memory, one theory and technique after another flashing through his mind, only to be rejected one after another in short order.
No, none of it, none of it was like this at all!
It was not that wizard civilization had no comparable technique, but every existing spatial mapping technique had to rely on a vast external array to maintain stability.
And the further apart the two spaces, the greater the consumption.
More importantly, none of those techniques could overlap two spaces completely and yet have them not interfere with one another!
A technique like this… at the least, he had never heard of it.
On the other side, the crystals around Morna were flickering continuously, plainly calling on the Void Architecture Academy’s knowledge models to run a high-speed match against the technique before her.
Several breaths later, the crystals stopped flickering. No matching result had been found.
Bastian slowly turned his head to look at Morna, and Morna looked over at very nearly the same moment.
Their gazes met. Neither said a word, but each read the meaning in the other’s eyes: you have never seen it either?
Bastian was silent for a moment, then looked toward Savien.
Savien merely smiled at that and nodded lightly to him, agreeing with his conclusion.
The two of them slowly withdrew their mental energy.
This time, when they looked at Jie Ming, there was no longer the slightest air of regarding a young junior in their eyes.
If anything, there was a good deal more gravity.
For all three of them were the most eminent masters of spatial studies!
And if even they could find no corresponding theory, then that meant one thing…
This boy had developed an entirely new technique independent of the present system!
