I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 771: A Lesson, and a Gain

Clark slowly closed his eyes, and when he opened them again his gaze had turned unusually severe.

“Reckless nonsense!”

In the several thousand years since Jie Ming had entered Clark’s tutelage, this was the first time he had heard his mentor use that tone.

“Do you know what your greatest mistake was?”

Jie Ming was silent a moment. “I underestimated the Fate Law.”

“No.” Clark shook his head.

“Quite the opposite. You overestimated yourself.”

Clark looked at him, his gaze so sharp it seemed to pierce the soul.

“What makes fate dangerous has never been the knowledge itself. It is that those who use it grow steadily more careless, and steadily more arrogant.” “A fate ability has no natural upper limit on the information it processes. Ask it a question and it will attempt to answer.”

“And the volume of information it must mobilize to answer that question can, with one moment of carelessness, exceed the limit any living thing can bear.” His tone grew sterner still.

“I will not belabor the concepts. You should have known them long ago. But knowing all of it, you still dared use a plane origin to search an entire region outright. That is exactly what your carelessness looks like!”

“That was not research. That was suicide!”

Jie Ming lowered his head slightly. “Yes.”

Clark went on. “A high-level wizard needs courage to explore the unknown.”

“But the high-level wizards who actually live a long time have one more thing.”

“Reverence! Without reverence, the finest talent in the world only makes death come a little sooner.”

“Learning to balance courage against reverence, which is to say learning to manage risk, is the lifelong subject of every wizard!”

Jie Ming was silent for a long while, and finally nodded in earnest.

“Mentor, I will remember it.”

Seeing that he offered no excuses, Clark’s expression eased somewhat.

Just then, Viola, beside them, suddenly frowned.

“Tch.”

She clicked her tongue in irritation, and the smile on her face actually began to fade.

Jie Ming found it odd. “What is it?”

Viola pursed her lips. “Nothing. I just enjoyed laughing at you a bit too much.”

Jie Ming: “…”

What kind of reason was that?

Viola rubbed her temples and said, with some vexation, “When I see someone else have bad luck, I feel happy.”

“And after I feel happy, my pain decreases.”

“And when my pain decreases…”

She frowned, her expression noticeably worse than a moment ago.

“All the various enhancements I get weaken a little too.”

Jie Ming caught on at once.

Viola’s current system was built on converting every kind of negative emotion into her own power.

Happiness was itself a weakening.

Small wonder she had suddenly worn that expression.

But the next second, Viola abruptly went still.

Then the displeasure vanished from her face, replaced by a smile lifting again.

“Hm?” She blinked. “Interesting.”

Jie Ming asked, “What?”

Viola spread her hands. “Just now I was a little annoyed about my power dropping.”

“And then I found…”

She said, smiling sweetly:

“That annoyance got absorbed too, and my power went right back up.”

She checked herself once more, then nodded in satisfaction. “Mm, that is right. Fully restored.”

Jie Ming: “…”

He was beginning to understand why his mentor kept saying Senior Sister Viola’s path was a very peculiar one.

And besides… he could not shake the feeling that his senior sister was getting better and better at climbing into the air by treading on her own feet.

Clark looked at Viola and shook his head helplessly.

Then, as though something had just occurred to him, he said, “Viola.”

“Yes?”

“How is your wizard tower coming along?”

The smile on Viola’s face froze instantly. “Still… still under construction.”

“Still under construction?”

Clark’s brows drew together.

“How long have you been putting it off?”

Viola coughed lightly. “Materials are a bit expensive, and I have been expanding my operations lately…”

“Enough.” Clark cut her off directly.

“Get it built as soon as possible.” His expression was serious.

“Your law deepening is already complete, and at your pace your law expansion should not take long either. The biggest limitation left is mental energy, which has always been your weak point.”

“Without a dedicated plane-level array feeding you continuously, your mental energy will only grow more and more slowly.”

“Keep putting it off and it will affect your advancement.”

For once Viola did not argue, only nodded helplessly:

“Understood.”

Listening to the two of them, Jie Ming felt a small shock.

Viola’s law deepening… was already complete?

Jie Ming had always known that one of the important thresholds between the sixth level and the seventh was continually deepening or expanding the core law one held, so that the Law Solidification Domain grew further.

He had not expected Viola to have already crossed that barrier.

And from what Mentor Clark implied, his senior sister apparently intended to carry out law expansion at the same time.

Still, with Senior Sister Viola’s talent, her preparing to do both at once was hardly surprising.

What limited her advancement now was purely the strength of her mental energy.

Looking at his senior sister on the light screen, Jie Ming could not help a certain feeling.

Small wonder she could already treat emotion itself as part of her law and use it freely.

She could even make her own emotions a source of power.

An ability like that had long since gone far beyond the scope of an ordinary sixth-level wizard. It was genuinely the ability of a seventh-level wizard.

Having confirmed how the two of them were doing, Clark gave a few more instructions and then ended the call himself.

The light screens went slowly dark, and the laboratory returned to quiet.

Jie Ming stood alone at his workbench, looking at the dark golden Law Solidification Domain circulating slowly in the center of the chamber, and did not move for a long time.

His injuries had long since healed.

His spiritual sea was stable again, and the Law Solidification Domain had begun slowly expanding outward once more.

Everything was back on track.

But there was another matter that kept circling in his mind.

A rather dangerous one.

During those years of recovery, Jie Ming had assumed his only gain was that he had survived, and had learned a lesson.

But once he was truly healed, during a routine inward examination of his spiritual sea, he found something he still thought unbelievable to this day. On the Ring of Truth there was one new golden thread.

That thread was extremely fine and extremely short.

Had he not checked it over and over, he would have suspected his own eyes.

It was… the Fate Law.

To be precise, a Fate Law golden thread.

His degree of mastery was pitifully low, by Jie Ming’s estimate perhaps one tenth of one percent at most.

But it had condensed all the same.

Which meant Jie Ming had formally stepped through the door of the Fate Law.

Jie Ming slowly raised a hand, and an extremely faint fluctuation of fate surfaced quietly at his fingertips.

Compared with the awkward, laborious deductions of the past, fate knowledge had suddenly become a great deal clearer to his understanding.

A great many theories he had previously found entirely incomprehensible he could now grasp the bulk of at a glance.

Improvement like that was absolutely not something normal study could achieve.

Putting it together with what had happened, Jie Ming quickly guessed the reason.

That head-blowing incident had not been meaningless after all.

That near-infinite torrent of information had burst his head and cracked his spiritual sea, but it had also, quite genuinely, forced his consciousness to process a vast quantity of fate information in an extremely short span of time.

Add to that the body forging method’s adaptive evolution in the face of injury, and the Dao Integration Realm’s peculiar state of continually integrating knowledge and digesting information. The three together had actually, by main force, converted information that should have killed him into a portion of knowledge that was now his.

And so the Fate Law golden thread was born.

At that thought, a flicker of heat could not help crossing Jie Ming’s eyes.

What if… he did it again?

“Hiss…”
