I Am Unaware That I Am the Peerless Martial God Chapter 1367: Immortal Yuheng
Previously on I Am Unaware That I Am the Peerless Martial God...
Xu Rong found herself caught off guard by the inquiry. She had not anticipated such a scenario, yet recalling the stringent directives from her superiors to accommodate every wish of Mr. Wu, she steeled herself and responded.
"I picked up a few steamed buns at midday and happen to have two remaining. If that would suffice..."
Standing before such a profound individual, Xu Rong felt her humble offering was dreadfully inadequate. The realization that she had kept them tucked away in her jacket pocket made her feel even more self-conscious and mortified.
Nonetheless, she had no alternative. Regardless of her embarrassment, she had to be honest.
To her utter astonishment, the moment the words left her lips, Wu Tao replied with complete indifference.
"That will do."
Wait, what?
Xu Rong stood frozen in confusion. She peered upward to see Wu Tao still fishing with serenity, apparently genuinely unbothered by the state of his meal.
Only then did she muster the resolve to retract the meat buns from her pocket and present them with both hands. Wu Tao accepted the bag with one hand, unsealed it with nimble fingers, and held it to his nose for a quick sniff. He offered a casual word of approval before beginning his meal.
"Mm, still warm. It smells quite decent."
The tips of Xu Rong's ears flushed a vivid crimson upon hearing this, and she dared not offer a reply.
Wu Tao, however, remained oblivious. His focus was entirely anchored to his fishing float. After finishing the buns in a few moments, he murmured with a lingering desire for more.
"These buns are actually quite good. They surpass those from the shop situated beneath my building."
Upon hearing this sincere commendation, Xu Rong slowly lifted her head, exhaling a quiet sigh of relief.
It made perfect sense, really. What manner of man was Mr. Wu? She had clearly been overthinking matters. For someone like him to embrace such an ordinary existence, his perspective and state of mind must have transcended the mortal plane. He held no concern for trivialities.
Discovering that Wu Tao shared her preference for this shop made Xu Rong feel as though they had discovered a common bond.
She replied instinctively, her tone softening considerably.
"Indeed, the buns from this place are tasty, though perhaps not the finest. I know a vendor in the old district who crafts marvelous ice jelly. If the opportunity arises, I absolutely must invite you to try it, Mr. Wu."
The exchange felt intimate and tranquil, akin to two acquaintances simply passing the time. It provided a genuine sense of peace, scrubbed clean of any ulterior motives or complex schemes. Life at its most fundamental should always be this tranquil.
The corners of Wu Tao's lips turned upward slightly as he responded with genuine interest.
"Very well. If the chance presents itself, you must remember to take me there."
As they conversed, the atmosphere settled into newfound serenity. It was as if all anxieties had vanished, leaving them as care-free as if they were truly unburdened and relaxing amidst the lush mountains and serene waters.
Just as their chat hit a high point, Wu Tao slowly shifted his gaze toward the silent, distant mountain peaks to their left.
"Show yourself. No need to hide any longer."
Startled by this sudden command, Xu Rong dropped her relaxed demeanor. She jerked her head up and stared into the distance, bracing for an encounter with a powerful threat. Yet, observing the path of Wu Tao's gaze, she found only blue skies and drifting clouds. She could perceive no trace of anyone, nor anything that could possibly concealment itself in such an open space.
Her tension instantly transformed into bewilderment. She stood motionless on the small craft, utterly lost.
Just what was lurking out there?
Before she could discern anything, an elderly man suddenly emerged from the clouds, mounted upon a flying sword!
The man was garbed in a Daoist robe, his hair gathered into a high topknot. The sleeves of his gown flowed wildly in the gusts of wind. Despite his snow-white hair, his face possessed the youthfulness of an immortal, and his eyes burned with brilliance. Even from that height, his transcendent aura was palpable, demanding reverence from any observer.
Xu Rong's eyes widened in profound shock.
She was astonished not merely by the visitor's majestic presence and his miraculous ability to fly, but because Mr. Wu had successfully pierced through the man's concealment technique!
Contrasting her shock, Wu Tao remained strikingly composed.
He remained anchored to the bow of the boat, rod in hand, his expression entirely devoid of ripples.
Watching the figure wobble on his blade as he attempted to descend, Wu Tao could tell instantly that the newcomer's Cultivation was exceedingly shallow. A flicker of concern crossed his mind—he was worried the old man might stumble and tumble into the lake, thereby ruining his fishing efforts.
Luckily, the old practitioner retained his balance. He forcefully maneuvered his flying sword to land adjacent to the boat. Despite several precarious stumbles, he avoided a fall. Recovering his composure, he stood before them, gestured with a horsetail whisk, and performed a respectful one-handed salute.
"Immeasurable Heavenly Venerate!"
"Greetings, fellow Daoist!"
It had to be admitted, the man possessed an impressive commitment to his dignity. Even after nearly crashing, he stubbornly maintained an air of solemn authority. Within the context of the Blue Planet, he was undeniably a formidable figure.
Faced with such a display, ordinary non-cultivators—and arguably even some practitioners—would have been thoroughly intimidated.
Alas, the figure before him was Wu Tao.
Wu Tao had long ascended past the mortal realm; traveling across various dimensions was child's play for him. Even Saints were nothing more than juniors in his eyes. A mundane Daoist who had yet to even reach the Foundation Establishment stage did not even warrant a glance.
Restricted by the laws of this world, making it arduous to flex his true reach, Wu Tao nevertheless saw through the old Daoist instantly, as if reading from a clear page.
While allowing the visitor his grand entrance, Wu Tao kept his focus on the lake.
His seemingly casual remarks, however, echoed with the weight of profound heavenly wisdom.
"In the pursuit of the Dao, beginners are tasked with condensing their Qi and blood to strip away mundane filth. Only when your five limbs are cleansed can you truly perceive and harness the spiritual energy of heaven and earth for your own benefit."
"To foolishly attempt to absorb meager spiritual energy before completing your body tempering will only render your Foundation unstable. How can you hope to build a skyscraper upon such a faulty base?"
These soft words struck like a thunderous clap to the soul!
The elderly Daoist appeared as if he had been struck by lightning, his features locked in a mask of realization.
After pondering the deeper meaning for several breaths, he hurriedly dispelled the sword beneath him, stepped onto the edge of the boat, and knelt humbly, radiating immense gratitude and awe.
"Senior!"
"Senior's profound words have awakened this soul from its slumber! This junior was too arrogant and nearly strayed from the path. I thank you, Senior, for the guidance!"
He was, at the very least, sincere. Although his vanity had been exposed, his ability to recognize and rectify his error showed he was not entirely beyond redemption.
Only then did Wu Tao look down slightly, asking in a casual tone.
"Why have you come here?"
He was currently engaged in a significant endeavor and could not tolerate interruptions. Since the intruder was of the cultivator path, it was necessary to question him. Everything pertaining to his objective required absolute precision.
Even if this Daoist meant no harm, the arrival of others—senior brothers, juniors, or disciples—might frighten away the spiritual monster, which would be a catastrophe.
It was always wise to remain vigilant.
At the inquiry, the old Daoist recounted everything he knew without hesitation.
"Senior is truly discerning!"
"I have cultivated on Kunlun Mountain since my youth, and my Daoist name is Perfected Yuheng. Hearing rumors of a monster terrorizing Lake Nuobu, I ventured here to slay the beast and rid the land of evil, so that the common people might be kept safe!"
"I have been patrolling these shores for several days, hoping to ambush it. I never dared imagine I would disturb a Senior. I am truly mortified..."
His prose carried an ancient, refined cadence, and he explained his motives with clarity. He was, after all, a practitioner belonging to a different sphere than the ordinary citizens of the Blue Planet.
With such a bearing, he was meant to be the focus of every room.
Xu Rong listened, eyes wide with incredulity. She inspected the old Daoist and suddenly cried out in shock!
"Perfected Yuheng?!"
"Are you the legendary Master of Kunlun Mountain, one of the five renowned Demon-Hunting Ancestors of our Xia Kingdom!?"
Hearing this, the old Daoist displayed a look of sheepishness, offering an awkward, forced smile. The instinctual awe and trembling in his posture were unmistakable. He knelt there as submissively as a child, fearing to rise.
Seeing this silent confirmation, Xu Rong was left speechless.
