"You’re really very photogenic," the young photographer admitted, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks as she lowered her camera.

Dominique glanced at her with his usual confident smirk. "I get that a lot." He even gave her a playful wink, which only made her blush harder.

He was clearly used to this sort of reaction.

With his dark eyes framed by thick, naturally curled eyelashes, flawless skin and a sharply defined jawline, Dominique had the sort of face that made people look twice. His features were striking without appearing harsh and his tall, six-foot frame was complemented by a well-maintained physique that made him a favourite among fashion brands. He could wear almost anything and make it look expensive.

Unfortunately for the photographer, he was also painfully particular about his pictures.

It was already nighttime and their photoshoot was taking place near a forest on the outskirts of the city. The crew had been working for hours but Dominique still wasn’t satisfied with the photographs. He kept asking for adjustments to his pose, the lighting and the camera angle, insisting that something looked wrong every time the photographer showed him the results.

"Could you tilt the camera a little more to the left?" he asked, examining the latest photograph on its screen. "The lighting is making my face look uneven."

The photographer hurriedly adjusted the settings. "Of course! I’ll try again."

Another series of photographs followed.

Dominique studied them carefully, his brows drawing together. "Hmm. The previous ones were better.but these still aren’t quite right."

The poor girl looked as though she was about to cry. She had been trying her best for hours and despite her efforts, the man standing in front of her seemed determined to find a flaw in every picture.

When Dominique finally noticed her expression, he paused.

Oh.

She genuinely looked ready to burst into tears.

He sighed, slipping his hands into his pockets. "Okay, okay. The photos are good enough now. We can stop."

The photographer nodded so quickly that he almost laughed. "Thank you! I’ll send you the edited versions as soon as possible."

"Make sure you choose the best ones."

"Of course!"

She packed her equipment with visible relief, probably wondering how a man who looked so good in front of a camera could be so difficult to photograph.

Honestly, Dominique was beginning to wonder the same thing himself.

He liked photography. He enjoyed experimenting with angles, lighting and composition, and he could spend hours adjusting a photograph until every detail looked right. He understood how much work went into getting a perfect shot, which was precisely why he was so particular about his own pictures.

Unfortunately, his standards were a little ridiculous.

He glanced at the camera one last time before turning away from the set.

Maybe I should just take my own photographs next time.

The thought wasn’t entirely unreasonable. He knew enough about photography to get the results he wanted, and at least he wouldn’t have to explain the same adjustment ten times.

Then another thought crossed his mind, and his lips curved into a self-satisfied smile.

Of course, he could always become a photographer himself.

There was just one small problem.

In his opinion, nobody was handsome or beautiful enough to inspire him to spend his life behind the camera. He liked taking photographs but he wasn’t particularly interested in spending hours capturing someone else’s face when he could be doing something more entertaining.

Dominique shook his head, amused by his own conclusion.

What a waste of talent. I’m good at photography, too but there’s no one worth photographing.

With that rather outrageous thought, he picked up his belongings and headed toward the waiting car, completely unaware that life might eventually introduce him to someone who would make him reconsider every word of it.

Dominique was about to get into his car when his driver approached him with an apologetic expression.

"Sir, I’m really sorry, but my wife just called. She’s not feeling well and she’s pregnant. I need to get home and check on her."

Dominique glanced at him, then nodded without hesitation. "Go ahead. Take care of her."

"Thank you, sir. I’ll arrange another driver for you if—"

"It’s fine. My house isn’t that far from here. I’ll drive myself."

After making sure his driver had everything he needed, Dominique got behind the wheel and set off. He was tired after spending hours at the photoshoot and all he wanted was a hot shower, comfortable clothes and a good night’s sleep. The sooner he got home, the better.

Unfortunately, the universe seemed to have other plans.

He had barely driven through the forest road for long when the engine suddenly sputtered. Dominique frowned as the car jerked slightly before coming to a complete stop.

He tried turning the key again.

Nothing.

He tried once more, pressing his lips together as the engine refused to cooperate.

"Seriously?"

Dominique stared at the dashboard as though his car had personally offended him. After another unsuccessful attempt, he leaned back against his seat and let out an irritated sigh.

"Of all the nights to do this."

He took out his phone and tried calling his driver but there was no signal. He checked again, moving the phone closer to the window as if that might somehow help.

Nothing.

Dominique tried another number, then opened the map on his phone, hoping it might at least show him where he was. The screen remained stubbornly unhelpful.

"Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful."

He glanced outside. The road was surrounded by dense trees and the darkness between them made the forest look even less welcoming. There were no houses nearby, no shops and not a single person in sight.

He could stay in the car until morning, of course but the thought of spending the entire night trapped in a cold vehicle in the middle of nowhere was deeply unappealing.

Besides, he wasn’t even sure how long the car’s battery would last if he kept trying to start the engine.

After a few minutes of weighing his options, Dominique grabbed his phone, locked the car and started walking toward the direction he believed would lead him back to the main road.

"This is ridiculous," he muttered as he walked. "I should have hired another driver."

The forest was unusually dark and the path ahead was barely visible beneath the trees. He kept checking his phone for a signal but the little symbol at the top of the screen remained unchanged.

He had been walking for some time when a cold drop of water landed directly on his forehead.

Dominique stopped and looked up.

Another drop landed on his cheek, then another.

"Oh, no."

Within seconds, the drizzle turned into proper rain. Water began falling through the gaps in the trees, soaking his hair and darkening the shoulders of his expensive outfit.
