Alexander’s attention first settled on the children’s books. He reached out and grabbed one, holding it with his tiny fingers as everyone smiled at him.
"A book!" Bella exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. "Oh, my little boy might become a reader!"
"Or a professor," Jace suggested, a small smile on his face.
"Or a writer!" Jason added, his grin widening. "Imagine him writing a hundred novels and making millions!"
Bella laughed, shaking her head. "Jason, he’s barely old enough to hold a book properly!"
Alexander, seemingly unconcerned with everyone’s predictions, reached forward again. This time, his little hand landed on the small toy gun.
The laughter around the room changed into surprised exclamations.
Jay slowly turned toward Leo, his eyebrows rising. "Well, well, well. Looks like someone has inherited the family business."
Leo glanced at his son, then at the toy in his hand. Although he looked rather proud, Bella immediately gave him a warning look.
"Don’t you dare encourage him," she said, her voice firm.
"I haven’t said anything," Leo replied innocently, though the corner of his mouth twitched.
"Your face has said enough."
Dominique burst out laughing, slapping his knee. "He’s proud! Look at him! Our little Carrot has chosen books and a gun. He’s going to be an educated mafia boss!"
"That’s actually a terrifying combination," Scarlett remarked, her brow lifting.
Alexander continued clutching the toy, apparently pleased with his discovery. A moment later, he noticed the little globe nearby and reached for that as well, his tiny fingers brushing against its colorful surface.
"Oh, look!" Bella said, delighted. "He wants the globe too!"
Jay leaned forward, counting the objects his nephew had chosen. "Books, a gun, and the world. Excellent! First he’ll study, then he’ll take over the family business and finally he’ll conquer the world!"
"Jay!" Jace exclaimed, laughing at the ridiculous prediction.
"What? I’m simply interpreting the results!" Jay protested, his hands raised in mock innocence.
Leo looked down at his son with a faint smile. "At least he has ambition."
Bella gave him another pointed look. "He also has a mother who hopes he’ll grow up to be a perfectly ordinary, peaceful person."
"Of course, Bunny," Leo said, his expression far too innocent for Bella to believe him.
Alexander, meanwhile, was happily examining the globe, his little face full of curiosity. He had no idea that his family had already assigned him an entire future based on three objects he had grabbed during a game.
Then everyone turned toward Sunny.
Jay practically bounced in place, rubbing his hands together as he looked at his son. "All right, little sunshine! Show everyone what you’ve got!" he announced, his voice booming with excitement.
Sunny responded by kicking both legs enthusiastically, his blue eyes fixed on the colorful objects in front of him. He blew a little bubble and gave the crowd a delighted grin, as though he understood that all this attention was meant for him.
"Please don’t let him choose the toy gun too," Lina said, laughing nervously.
Jay gasped, his eyes widening. "Why not? It would be a wonderful family moment!"
"Jay, he’s your son, not your tiny mafia recruit," Jace reminded him, his tone dry.
"Yet," Dominique added, a mischievous grin on his face.
Everyone burst into laughter, waiting impatiently for Sunny to make his selection. The little boy wiggled his hands, kicked his feet again, and looked at the toys with bright, curious eyes.
"Come on, Sunny! Show Papa what you’ve got!" Jay encouraged him, wiggling his fingers to catch the baby’s attention.
Sunny’s bright blue eyes wandered across the objects until they landed on the miniature toy car. He reached for it, his tiny fingers curling around the little vehicle as soon as Jay moved it within his reach. The moment he got hold of it, he kicked his legs and grinned.
"A CAR!" Jay announced proudly, his chest puffing out. "Jace, our son wants a car! He’s going to be a racer! My little boy is going to drive the fastest cars in the world!"
Jace glanced at the baby, then at his husband, his expression flat. "He’s not even old enough to sit up by himself. Perhaps we should let him learn to crawl before planning his racing career."
"But look at him! He’s already chosen his vehicle!" Jay insisted, his eyes shining.
Bella smiled at Sunny’s delighted expression. "Jay, I think he just likes the car because it’s colorful."
"Bella Bell, please don’t ruin this beautiful father-son moment!" Jay pleaded, his face falling.
Sunny, apparently finished with his first discovery, let go of the car and reached toward a little handheld gaming console nearby. With a determined little movement, he grabbed it and held it against his chest.
Jason pointed at the baby, unable to contain his amusement. "He chose games too! Jay, your son is exactly like you!"
Jay stared at the console before turning toward Jace with an enormous grin. "OUR SON IS A GENIUS! He’s barely a month old, and he already knows what’s important in life!"
"Because he grabbed a gaming console?" Jace asked dryly, his brow lifting.
"YES! He’ll race during the day and play games at night. A perfect lifestyle!" Jay declared, his voice full of pride.
Dominique shook his head, grinning. "Congratulations, Jay. Your son has decided his future consists of driving expensive cars and playing video games. At least he’s honest about his priorities."
"Don’t forget eating snacks," Jason added, his grin widening. "He’s going to need plenty of those between gaming sessions."
"AND SLEEPING!" Jay continued, becoming more enthusiastic with every suggestion. "He’ll sleep whenever he wants, eat whenever he wants, play games all day, and drive fancy cars when he’s older!"
Jace folded his arms, his expression unimpressed. "You’ve just described your own lifestyle."
"That’s because I’m an excellent role model!" Jay said, puffing out his chest.
"An excellent role model who once spent an entire night playing games and forgot to eat dinner," Jace reminded him, his tone pointed.
"That happened one time!" Jay protested, his face flushing.
"Three times last week."
Jay opened his mouth to argue, then apparently decided he couldn’t win that one. Instead, he crouched beside Sunny and gently kissed his forehead.
"My sunshine, you can have all the cars and games you want when you’re older. Papa will buy you the best ones!" he promised, his voice soft with affection.
"Within reason," Jace added immediately, his arms still crossed.
Jay looked at his husband in disbelief, his eyes wide. "Darling, how can you put limits on our son’s dreams?"
"Very easily. I’m his other father."
While the adults continued their playful argument, Sunny sat happily among the pillows, the toy car beside him and the gaming console in his little hands. He kicked his feet whenever someone spoke to him, seemingly pleased with all the attention.
Lina watched him fondly, a warm smile on her face. "I told you this little boy would be even more mischievous than Jay. He’s already making everyone pay attention to him without saying a single word."
Bella nodded, smiling at the baby’s cheerful face. "And I have a feeling he’ll get away with everything."
"Of course he will," Jay replied confidently, his grin returning. "Look at him! How could anyone ever say no to that face?"
Jace gave him a knowing look, his expression serious. "I can think of one person who’ll have to."
Jay’s smile faded, his brow furrowing. "Who?"
"Me. Because I don’t want to spoil him so much," Jace said, his voice firm.
Jay turned back toward Sunny, then leaned down to whisper to him conspiratorially. "Don’t worry, sweetheart. Papa will always be on your side."
"Jay, I can hear you," Jace reminded him, his tone flat.
"That’s unfortunate," Jay muttered, not looking up.
