His innocent wife is a dangerous hacker. Chapter 920 We’re having a baby
Previously on His innocent wife is a dangerous hacker....
Leo was sitting where she had left him. He stood up the moment he saw her.
"How was it?" Leo asked. His voice was quiet.
"Fine," Bella said.
He looked at her face. Then he opened his arms.
Bella walked into them without a word. She pressed her face against his chest and breathed him in. Leo held her tight. His hand moved slowly up and down her back.
They sat back down together.
The waiting room was busy. Other couples sat around them. Some held hands. Some looked at their phones. Some stared at the floor. Bella looked at them, wondering what they were waiting for.
She leaned her head against Leo’s shoulder.
"What if it’s positive?" Bella whispered.
Leo was quiet for a moment.
"Then we’ll deal with it," Leo said.
"And if it’s negative?"
"Then we’ll deal with that too."
Bella closed her eyes.
"I’m scared," Bella admitted.
Leo’s arm tightened around her.
"Me too," Leo said.
She looked up at him. His gray eyes were soft. His jaw was tight. He was scared. She could see it now. He was just better at hiding it.
Bella reached for his hand.
"Together?" Bella asked.
Leo looked at her.
"Always," Leo said.
An hour passed slowly.
Bella had stopped checking the clock. She had stopped counting the minutes. She had stopped trying to guess what the results would say. She simply sat there, her head on Leo’s shoulder, her hand in his, waiting.
Leo had not moved either. He had not checked his phone. He had not looked around the room. He had just sat there, holding her hand, staring at the wall in front of him.
Then the door opened.
Dr. Poppy stepped out. She was holding a folder in her hand.
Bella’s heart dropped. She sat up straight.
Leo stood. His hand did not let go of hers.
Dr. Poppy walked over to them.
"Mr. and Mrs. Moretti, please come with me."
They followed her back into the examination room. Dr. Poppy closed the door behind them and gestured for them to sit.
Bella sat on the edge of the bed. Leo stood beside her, his hand on her shoulder.
Dr. Poppy opened the folder. She looked at the papers inside for a moment. Then she looked up.
"Your blood work came back."
Bella’s throat was dry. "And?"
Dr. Poppy paused. Just for a second. Just long enough for Bella’s heart to stop.
"Your hCG levels are elevated."
Bella stared at her. The words did not make sense.
"Elevated," Bella repeated. Her voice was barely a whisper.
Dr. Poppy nodded. "Yes. Your hCG is at a level that is consistent with early pregnancy."
Silence.
Bella did not move. She did not speak. She did not even breathe.
Leo’s hand tightened on her shoulder.
"Pregnant," Leo said. His voice was taken aback.
Dr. Poppy nodded again. "Yes. Based on the blood work, you are pregnant."
Bella’s vision blurred. She blinked. Then blinked again. Her hands were shaking. She looked down at them, at her own fingers trembling in her lap.
"How?" Bella whispered.
Dr. Poppy’s expression softened. "I know this is a shock. Dr. Hayes mentioned you were told pregnancy would be difficult. Maybe impossible. But the tests do not lie. Your hCG is elevated, and your progesterone levels are consistent with a viable early pregnancy."
Bella shook her head slowly. "But I was told..."
"I know," Dr. Poppy said gently. "And I cannot explain why the previous diagnosis was what it was. But I can tell you what the tests show now. And right now, the tests show that you are pregnant."
Bella’s eyes filled with tears. She did not know what she felt. She did not know if she was happy or scared or confused or all of it at once. She just sat there, tears rolling down her cheeks, her hands trembling.
Leo knelt beside her. He took both of her hands in his.
"Bunny," Leo said. His voice was quiet.
She looked at him. His gray eyes were soft. Softer than she had ever seen them, like the softest rainy gray clouds.
"We’re having a baby," Leo said.
Bella let out a sound. Half laugh. Half sob. She nodded. Then she nodded again. Then she leaned forward and pressed her face against his shoulder.
Leo wrapped his arms around her and held her tight.
Dr. Poppy watched them for a moment. Then she cleared her throat gently.
"I want to schedule an ultrasound," she said. "Just to confirm the pregnancy is in the right place and to check on everything. It should be done as soon as possible."
Leo looked up. "When?"
"Now, if you’re ready."
Bella pulled back. She wiped her face with the back of her hand. Then she nodded.
"Okay," Bella whispered.
Dr. Poppy led them down the hall to the ultrasound room. It was small and dim with a large machine beside the bed and a screen mounted on the wall.
Bella lay down on the bed. Leo stood beside her, holding her hand.
The technician came in. She was a young and sweet woman. She explained what she was going to do, then lifted Bella’s gown and squeezed cold gel onto her stomach.
"This might feel a little cold," the technician said.
Bella barely felt it. Her heart was beating too fast.
The technician pressed the wand against her stomach and moved it slowly. The screen flickered with static. Then shapes. Then something small. Something small and round and impossibly tiny.
"There," the technician said. "That’s the gestational sac."
Bella stared at the screen. She did not understand what she was looking at. But she could not look away.
The technician moved the wand again. The image shifted. Then a sound filled the room. Fast, rhythmic, like a tiny drum.
"That’s the heartbeat," the technician said.
Bella’s breath caught.
Leo’s hand tightened around hers.
The sound kept going.
Bella’s tears came again. She did not try to stop them.
Leo leaned down and pressed his lips against her forehead. He stayed there for a long moment. When he pulled back, his eyes were wet.
"Bunny," Leo whispered.
Bella looked at him. She was crying. She was smiling. She was terrified. She was happier than she had ever been.
"We’re having a baby," Bella said.
Leo nodded. His voice was rough. "We’re having a baby."
