Eli calls Bella "Mumma" for the first time, bringing Bella immense joy. He then reveals that a strange man has been watching him for a week and approached him today, asking if Eli recognized him. Bella and Leo are deeply concerned by this revelation.

Bella listened without interrupting. Her arms remained wrapped protectively around him, and she nodded gently whenever he paused to make sure she was still paying attention.

Leo listened even more carefully. His eyes never left Eli’s face and he absorbed every single detail the little boy shared.

When Eli finally finished, Bella hugged him close again, pressing her cheek against his soft hair. She could feel his small heartbeat against her chest, slow and calm now that he had finally shared what had been troubling him.

"You did very well by staying away from him, but you don’t have to handle scary things by yourself anymore."

Eli looked up at her, his dark eyes searching her face.

"Because I have Mumma?"

Bella’s eyes immediately softened, tears threatening to form behind them.

"Yes."

He smiled, a small, trusting smile that made her heart full.

"And Papa."

Leo reached over and gently touched the top of his head.

"Always."

Eli seemed satisfied by that answer and rested his head against Bella’s shoulder. His small body relaxed, the tension finally leaving his little frame. He let out a tiny sigh, as though a stone had been lifted from his small shoulders. His fingers, which had been gripping Bella’s sleeve, slowly loosened.

But the moment his little face disappeared against her, Bella’s expression changed.

She looked at Leo.

Leo was already looking at her.

The warmth that had been in his eyes moments ago was gone, replaced with lethal coldness. His gray eyes had turned to ice and his jaw was set in a hard line. His hands, which had been resting gently on Eli’s back, had curled into fists at his sides.

Neither of them spoke.

Leo and Bella didn’t waste a single moment. They contacted the kindergarten, spoke directly with the principal and made it clear that they expected an immediate explanation for how an employee had been allowed to repeatedly observe and approach a child without anyone raising a concern. The principal, flustered and apologetic, promised to conduct a full investigation and cooperate fully. His voice trembled slightly as he spoke, clearly aware of the sensitivity of the situation.

They also gathered every piece of evidence they could find. The security footage around the entrance, the staff records, the cleaner’s employment details, and the accounts of teachers and other employees were carefully collected. Bella insisted that Eli’s safety couldn’t be treated casually simply because nothing physical had happened yet. She refused to let anyone dismiss the severity of what had occurred.

"This should never have happened in the first place," she said firmly during the meeting with the principal. "A child shouldn’t have to notice that someone is watching him before the adults responsible for his safety do."

The principal looked deeply embarrassed, his face flushed with shame. He avoided eye contact as he spoke.

"We sincerely apologize. We should have conducted a much more thorough background check before allowing him to work around the children."

Leo’s expression remained cold and his voice was so calm that it felt like the calm before a storm.

"An apology isn’t enough. You need to make sure this never happens again."

The kindergarten immediately cooperated with the investigation and the evidence eventually led them straight to Jack.

When the authorities caught him, Jack was completely stunned. His face went pale, and his eyes darted around wildly as if searching for an escape that didn’t exist.

"What? Why are you arresting me?"

He looked around in confusion, genuinely unable to understand how everything had fallen apart so quickly. His mind raced, searching for an explanation, but nothing made sense. He had been so careful. He had planned everything perfectly, or so he had believed.

He had thought he had been careful.

He had thought nobody had noticed him.

He certainly hadn’t expected a four-year-old’s observations to become the very thing that exposed him.

As Jack was brought in, he caught sight of Leo and Bella. They were standing together, their expressions cold and unreadable.

His expression changed.

Instead of fear, something else slowly appeared in his eyes.

.

He had heard that Leo and Bella wanted to handle the matter privately through the school administration and Jack immediately twisted that information into something completely different in his mind.

They’re going to pay me.

His confidence returned.

After all, he had convinced himself that his connection to Eli made him valuable. He was Eli’s biological father, and in his mind, that meant the wealthy family would rather give him money than risk the matter becoming public. He had read about cases like this before. Rich families always paid to keep things quiet. They didn’t want the scandal, the media attention or the questions.

Perhaps they would offer him a large settlement.

Perhaps they would simply pay him to disappear.

Either way, Jack imagined himself walking away with enough money to forget the kindergarten, the cleaning job and all the humiliation he had endured. He pictured himself living comfortably, far away from this city, never having to work again.

A smug smile even began to appear on his face.

Leo noticed it.

His eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of cold amusement passing through them.

Bella noticed too and her expression became one of disbelief. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. This man, who had been stalking her son, who had frightened a four-year-old child, was now standing there looking almost pleased with himself. He seemed to think he had won some kind of prize.

Jack seemed almost pleased with himself.

"You wanted to talk privately, right?" he asked, looking between them.

Leo said nothing. His face remained completely unreadable.

Jack took their silence as encouragement.

"I think we can come to an understanding."

Bella stared at him, her voice cold.

"You think so?"

Jack nodded confidently, his chin lifting as he puffed out his chest.

"I’m Eli’s father."

Bella’s expression hardened immediately. The words hit her like a slap and her hands curled into fists at her sides. Obviously she had seen Eli’s dad in the investigation report and she knew it was this guy.

Leo’s face became completely unreadable. The coldness in his eyes intensified but he said nothing.

Jack, however, still seemed convinced that he held some kind of advantage. He straightened his posture, a confident smirk tugging at his lips.
