Leo’s eyes moved across her face slowly. He looked at the curve of her cheek, the way her chest rose and fell with each breath, the way her fingers rested lightly on the blanket.

He had been thinking about something for a while now. A choice he had been turning over in his mind, thinking about it carefully, wondering if it was the right thing to do. He had not told anyone, not even her. And now, watching her sleep so peacefully, he felt a strange nervousness in his heart.

Or would she think he had gone too far without asking her opinion?

He did not know. For the first time in a long time, Leo felt unsure.

His hand moved slowly, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. The touch was so light that she did not stir. He let his fingers rest there for a moment.

"I hope I’m doing the right thing," he whispered, his voice very soft. "I hope... this will make you happy."

He stopped, his jaw tightening a little.

"I’ve never been this nervous about anything before."

He let out a quiet breath, his eyes still on her sleeping face.

"I just want you to be happy, Bella. That’s all I’ve ever wanted."

He watched her for another long moment before leaning down and giving her a soft kiss on the forehead.

Then he stood up and walked to the window, looking out at the dark sky. His mind was still busy, turning over the choice he had made.

The Next Morning

Bella was surprised when she woke up and found Leo’s side of the bed already empty. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and looked around the room, still expecting him to walk out of the bathroom or return with his usual cup of coffee but there was no sign of him. He had apparently left for the company quite early without waking her.

Since she had taken leave from college that day, she had planned to spend the morning lazily at home, perhaps reading something or working on a few things from her laptop.

She had no idea that Leo had already started arranging something completely different.

By afternoon, a message suddenly appeared in the Common group chat, where family and friends were.

Leo:

Bella stared at the message.

Her eyebrows slowly lifted.

"Someone special?"

Within seconds, the group exploded with replies.

Jason:

Dominique:

Jace:

Alessandro:

Lina:

Jay:

Bella immediately burst out laughing at Jay’s message.

Another message appeared.

Jay:

Bella stared at her phone.

"I don’t know anything..."

She quickly typed a reply.

Jay immediately called her.

"What do you mean you have no idea?" he demanded the moment she answered.

"I mean I have no idea!"

"You’re his wife!"

"I know!"

"Then how can you not know?"

"Because he left early without telling me anything!"

There was a pause.

Jay sounded even more suspicious. "That’s very suspicious."

Bella rolled her eyes. "You are making it sound like he’s hiding a second family."

"I didn’t say that!"

"You were thinking it."

"I was not!"

"You absolutely were."

Jay went quiet. "...Maybe a little."

Bella laughed.

But despite the jokes, she was genuinely curious.

She messaged Leo privately.

No reply.

She waited.

She sent another message.

She stared at the screen with narrowed eyes.

"Suspicious man."

By around 3:40, the family had gathered in the garden.

The large garden was peaceful, the morning sunlight filtering through the trees and falling across the neatly trimmed lawn. Chairs had been arranged around the open space, although nobody seemed particularly interested in sitting. Everyone was too curious about Leo’s mysterious announcement.

Jay paced around impatiently.

"What is going on in his mind?"

He looked toward his mother and father. Alessandro and Lina exchanged a glance before both shrugged.

Lina admitted. "We have no idea."

Jay looked even more confused. "How can nobody know?"

Jace calmly folded his arms. "Because Leo didn’t tell anyone."

Jay turned toward him. "That’s exactly the problem!"

Dominique was trying not to laugh.

Jason, meanwhile, looked as though he had already invented several ridiculous possibilities.

"Maybe he bought another company."

Jay looked at him. "Why would he need to introduce a company as someone special?"

Jason thought about it. "...Good point."

Jay suddenly turned toward Bella.

"Bella Bell!"

Bella was sitting comfortably on the garden chair, looking just as confused as everyone else.

"At least you must know!"

She shook her head immediately. "No."

"Nothing?"

"Nothing."

"Not even a tiny clue?"

"No."

"Not even a suspicious look?"

"No!"

Jay stared at her suspiciously.

Bella lifted both hands. "I swear! I woke up this morning and he was already gone. Then he sent that message without telling me anything."

Jay looked toward the others. "This is getting more suspicious."

Bella laughed helplessly. "I don’t think he’s doing anything bad."

"I didn’t say bad."

"You were thinking it."

"I was thinking mysterious!"

Jace sighed. "You’re overthinking."

Jay pointed toward the house. "Leo doesn’t randomly call the entire family together and say he’s introducing someone special!"

Everyone became quiet again.

That was true. Leo was not the kind of person who made dramatic announcements without a reason.

Bella looked toward the entrance of the garden.

Her curiosity was growing by the second.

"Where is he?"

No one answered.

And that somehow made the mystery even bigger.

She sighed and frowned slightly.

"That man better have a very good explanation."

Jay nodded seriously. "Agreed."

Then Jason suddenly whispered, "What if it’s a surprise for Bella?"

Everyone looked at Bella.

Bella blinked. "For me?"

Jay’s eyes widened. "Oh..." He slowly looked around. "Now I’m interested."

Bella’s heart began beating a little faster.

She didn’t know.

But judging by the mysterious message, his refusal to answer her calls, and the fact that he had gathered the entire family together, whatever he was planning...

It was clearly something he considered important.

And nobody had the slightest idea what, or who, was waiting for them.
