Around 9 AM, Leo and Bella reached there and were warmly welcomed by the couple.
"How are you, Bella?" Reyna asked warmly the moment Bella stepped closer. Without waiting for an answer, she gently wrapped her arms around Bella in a welcoming hug.
Bella smiled and returned it. "I’m doing well. How about you?"
Reyna laughed softly as they pulled apart. "I’m wonderful." She placed a hand over her heart dramatically. "I honestly feel like I’m getting younger every year."
Bella blinked. "Really?"
Reyna nodded with a playful grin. "Of course! Living with dozens of adorable little ones is the best anti-aging treatment in the world."
Bella couldn’t help laughing. "I believe it." She looked at Reyna carefully before smiling even brighter. "And... you really do look even more beautiful now."
Reyna’s eyes widened. "Oh my..." She laughed before pulling Bella into another quick hug. "Aww, you’re such a sweetheart."
Bella giggled shyly.
Nearby, Leo shook hands with Emilio. "It’s good to see you again."
Emilio smiled sincerely. "The feeling is mutual, Mr. Moretti."
As Reyna led Bella farther inside, Emilio naturally walked beside Leo. "I’ve been wanting to show you something."
Leo nodded. "Go ahead."
Emilio’s face brightened immediately. "We’ve changed quite a lot over the past few years. We expanded the nursery, added a small library, built a computer room and recently opened a study hall for the older children."
Leo listened attentively while occasionally asking thoughtful questions about funding, staff and the children’s education. Emilio answered each one enthusiastically.
"I’ve learned so much about management over the years." He smiled proudly. "We’ve improved our budgeting, organized volunteer schedules properly, partnered with nearby schools and even started teaching practical life skills to the teenagers."
Leo looked genuinely impressed. "You’ve done excellent work."
Hearing those words from Leo made Emilio’s face light up with pride. "Thank you. I still have a lot to learn."
As they continued walking, Bella quietly admired the orphanage around her.
Everything was beautifully maintained. The white walls were freshly painted and decorated with colorful handprints, rainbows, butterflies and smiling suns created by the children themselves. Large windows welcomed warm sunlight into every room, making the entire building feel bright and cheerful.
The floors shone so cleanly that they almost reflected the light above. Small shelves were neatly filled with storybooks, puzzles and handmade crafts. Tiny shoes were lined up perfectly outside each room and cheerful drawings proudly displayed the children’s dreams, some wanted to become doctors, some artists, some astronauts and some simply drew pictures of happy families holding hands.
Outside, the spacious garden was equally beautiful. Rows of colorful flowers surrounded winding stone paths, while fruit trees provided cool shade for wooden benches. A small vegetable patch flourished in one corner, clearly cared for by tiny, hardworking hands. The playground was filled with swings, slides, climbing frames and a large sandbox where children’s laughter echoed through the peaceful morning.
The entire orphanage didn’t feel like an institution. It felt like a home.
Bella’s eyes softened as she looked around. "It’s... beautiful."
Reyna smiled gently. "We wanted every child who walks through these doors to feel like they belong." She glanced toward the children playing outside. "And every day, we try our best to make that happen."
Bella nodded quietly. She could see it.
Reyna gently clapped her hands, gathering the children together. "Everyone! I’d like you all to meet two very special guests."
Dozens of little faces immediately turned toward Bella and Leo. Some children waved excitedly. Some hid behind their friends, peeking shyly with curious eyes. Others simply stared, fascinated by the newcomers.
Bella smiled nervously and gave them a small wave. "Hello."
The children instantly waved back, a chorus of tiny "Hellos!" filling the courtyard. Her heart melted.
Reyna chuckled. "Go on. You’ve been waiting to meet them all morning."
That was all the encouragement the children needed. Within seconds, several little ones surrounded Bella, asking innocent questions all at once.
"Big sister, what’s your name?"
"Can you draw?"
"Are you married???"
"Will you play with us?"
"Your hair is so long!"
Bella laughed softly, trying her best to answer each child without missing anyone. "I’ll play with everyone. Yes, I’m married. And... maybe I can draw a little."
The children giggled.
Just then, a tiny girl, no older than six, slowly walked toward Bella. She had beautiful dark curly hair tied into two fluffy puffs, warm brown skin, and enormous chocolate-colored eyes that sparkled with curiosity.
She stopped right in front of Bella and looked up at her seriously. For a few long seconds, she simply stared.
Bella blinked. "...Hello?"
The little girl pointed at Bella’s dress. "I like your dress."
Bella’s eyes immediately brightened. "Really?"
The little girl nodded earnestly. "It’s very pretty."
Bella’s cheeks turned pink. "Thank you..." She smiled so sweetly that she almost forgot what to say next.
Standing nearby, Leo quietly watched the interaction. He could tell Bella was becoming a little overwhelmed by all the attention. A faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
He folded his arms and raised one eyebrow. "So... only the dress is pretty?"
The little girl’s eyes widened. She immediately shook her head so quickly that her curls bounced. "No!" She looked at Bella again with complete sincerity. "Big sister is much prettier."
Bella froze. Then her face became bright red. "...M-Me?"
The little girl nodded confidently. "Yes! You’re like a princess."
Bella instinctively covered her burning cheeks with both hands. "Oh no... Thank you, little one."
The children around her burst into cheerful laughter.
Leo looked at his flustered wife before letting out a quiet chuckle. "I agree."
Bella immediately turned toward him with an embarrassed pout. "Leo..."
He only smiled. "I didn’t say anything untrue."
Bella looked away shyly, unable to stop smiling.
The little girl tugged gently at Bella’s sleeve. "Will you play with us now?"
Bella knelt down to her level, her eyes soft and warm. "Of course. What do you want to play?"
The little girl’s face lit up. "Hide and seek!"
Several other children immediately chimed in. "Yes! Hide and seek!"
Bella laughed. "Alright, hide and seek it is." She looked at Leo with a playful glint in her eyes. "Are you playing too?"
Leo raised an eyebrow. "I’m supposed to be the responsible adult."
"You can be responsible after you count to thirty."
The children giggled.
Leo sighed, but he was smiling as well. "Fine. Thirty seconds. Don’t hide too well."
The children scattered in all directions.
