Bella cries, thanking Leo for letting her grandfather stay and asking him to care for him if she ever loses her memory again. Leo reassures her, taking the blame for not noticing the danger sooner. Bella defends him, emphasizing their human need to trust and love. Leo then kisses Bella passionately, reaffirming their love, and declares that her family is now his family.

When he finally pulled back, Bella was breathless.

Her chest rose and fell rapidly, her lips slightly swollen, her eyes teary from the deep, intense kiss. A single tear slipped down her cheek, catching the golden evening light like a tiny jewel.

Leo brushed it away with his thumb, his touch impossibly gentle. His gray eyes were dark, intense, still burning with the heat of the moment. He leaned closer, his lips brushing against her ear, his breath warm against her skin.

"I only like them when they’re because of me," he whispered, his voice low and rough. "And I plan to make you cry like that a lot more. In many different ways. In many different places."

Bella’s eyes widened.

Her cheeks flushed a deep, burning crimson. Her mouth fell open in shock.

"You... you... you make everything sound so—so—"

She couldn’t even finish the sentence. Her face was on fire.

Without another word, she turned and ran inside, her bare feet padding against the floor, her heart pounding wildly in her chest. She didn’t look back. She couldn’t. If she looked back, she would melt into a puddle right there on the spot.

Leo watched her go, a slow, satisfied smile spreading across his face.

He had won this round and he planned to win many more.

That night, Leo was sleeping lightly beside Bella, one arm resting around her waist as though even in sleep he refused to let her drift too far away. His breathing was slow and even, his body relaxed but his mind remained alert, always aware of her presence.

Suddenly, Bella’s breathing became uneven. Her brows knitted together. Tiny beads of sweat appeared on her forehead. Her fingers clenched the blanket, twisting the fabric.

"...No..." she whispered weakly.

Her body tensed. Her legs twitched beneath the sheets.

"...Please..."

In reality, she began thrashing in bed. Her breathing became frantic, her body jerking against the sheets. Tears rolled down her sleeping face, soaking into the pillow.

"...Don’t touch me!" she cried out. "Go away! I trusted you... Please..."

Leo woke instantly. His eyes snapped open, his body already moving before his mind fully caught up.

"Bunny." He immediately sat up and gently held her trembling shoulders. "Bunny. It’s me. Wake up."

Bella continued crying in her sleep. "...No... I’m scared..."

Leo gently brushed the damp hair away from her forehead. "There isn’t anyone here. You’re safe. I’m with you."

She continued trembling, her body shaking against his hands. Without hesitation, Leo pulled her into his chest, wrapping both arms firmly around her. He slowly rubbed comforting circles over her back, his touch warm and soothing.

"It’s only a nightmare," he murmured against her hair. "Nothing can hurt you. I’m here. I’m not going anywhere."

Bella suddenly gasped awake. Her eyes were filled with panic as she looked wildly around the room.

"...Leo..." Her voice shook, cracking with fear.

Leo cupped her face immediately, forcing her to meet his gaze. "I’m here."

She threw herself into his arms, her body collapsing against his. "I saw her..." Bella sobbed. "I saw Aunt Clara... She kept following me... She said she wanted me to forgive her..."

Leo tightened his embrace. His jaw clenched. He hated seeing her suffer like this.

He gently kissed the top of her head. "You don’t have to forgive anyone," he said, his voice calm but unwavering. "Especially someone who hurt you."

Bella buried her face deeper into his chest. "I’m scared..."

Leo rested his cheek against her hair. "I know." He whispered. "But every time you wake up... The first person you’ll see... will always be me."

He reached over and switched on the bedside lamp, filling the room with a soft golden glow. The darkness disappeared, chased away by the warm light.

Bella slowly looked around. Only their bedroom. Only the familiar furniture and Leo. Nothing else.

She finally let out a shaky breath, her body slowly relaxing against him.

Leo tucked the blanket around her before gently kissing her forehead. "Go back to sleep. I’ll stay awake."

Bella looked at him with watery eyes. "...Really?"

Leo nodded once. "I’ll watch over you. So if another nightmare comes..." He gently intertwined his fingers with hers. "It’ll have to get through me first."

Bella gave the smallest smile. Holding his hand tightly, she slowly closed her eyes again.

This time, she fell asleep listening to the steady beat of his heart.
