Following Bella's hospital discharge, Jay appoints himself her overzealous bodyguard. Meanwhile, William reveals his declining health to Leo and expresses his desire to spend his remaining time with Bella, which Leo graciously accepts. The two men bond over shared laughter, much to Jay's initial suspicion, which quickly dissipates.

The bedroom was quiet.

The balcony doors were open, allowing the cool evening breeze to drift inside. The curtains swayed gently as the last rays of sunlight painted the room in soft shades of gold and amber. The world outside was peaceful, the sounds of birdsong and distant leaves rustling creating a soothing melody.

Leo stood by the balcony, looking outside. His hands rested loosely on the railing, his gaze fixed on the horizon where the sun was slowly dipping below the treeline.

A few moments later, he felt a pair of soft arms wrap around his own.

Bella gently hugged his arm and rested her cheek against his shoulder. Her warmth seeped through his sleeve, grounding him.

Leo looked down.

Her eyes were slightly red.

"...What’s wrong?" he asked softly.

Bella lowered her head for a moment before speaking. "...Thank you."

Leo waited.

"Thank you so much... for letting Grandpa stay with us."

She looked up at him with eyes already glistening with tears.

"I know how much he loves me."

"And..." Her voice gradually became smaller. "If... If one day my mind becomes confused again... If I forget him because of everything that happened..." She bit her lower lip. "...Please take care of him for me."

The tears she had been holding back finally slipped down her cheeks.

"He doesn’t deserve to be lonely. He already spent so much of his life carrying everything by himself. I don’t want him to feel alone again."

Leo quietly looked at her. Then he gently wiped away the tears from her cheeks.

"...Don’t cry." His voice was calm. "There won’t be another if."

Bella lowered her eyes. "But—"

Leo slowly shook his head.

"This wasn’t because your mind was weak." He gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "Your mind isn’t unpredictable. If anything..." A faint, self-mocking smile appeared on his lips. "...it’s brilliant. You’ve always been smarter than most people. The one who failed... was me."

Bella immediately looked up.

Leo continued quietly. "The danger was happening right in front of me. Under my own roof, and I didn’t notice. I trusted the wrong person. I never questioned her." He let out a quiet breath. "...That makes me incredibly foolish."

Bella immediately shook her head.

"No." She hugged his arm even tighter. "No, Leo." Her voice was firm despite the tears in her eyes. "She had been with your family for years. She took care of everyone. She smiled. She cared. How could you possibly suspect someone like that?"

She looked into his eyes.

"We’re human. We trust. We love. We become attached to people. That’s not stupidity. That’s what makes us human."

Leo remained silent.

Bella rested her cheek against his arm once more.

Without him noticing, she secretly breathed in his familiar scent. It always made her feel calm and safe. Like she had finally come home.

"I don’t blame you," she whispered. "Not even a little." She smiled softly through her tears. "If our positions were reversed... I probably would’ve trusted her too. And I did trust her so much."

Leo looked at the small woman leaning against him.

Then, without another word, he gently lifted her chin with two fingers.

"So..." He asked quietly. "You’ve already forgiven me?"

Bella looked genuinely confused. "...There was never anything to forgive."

Leo’s gaze softened. A warmth he rarely showed anyone appeared in his eyes.

He slowly leaned forward and pressed a tender kiss against her forehead.

"I really don’t know..." He murmured. "...what I did in my life to deserve someone like you."

Bella’s cheeks immediately turned pink.

She shyly smiled before wrapping both arms around his waist instead.

"You loved me," she answered honestly. "You protected me. You believed me... Even when I couldn’t believe myself." She looked up at him with bright, loving eyes. "So... I think the universe simply decided to reward you."

A quiet chuckle escaped Leo’s lips.

For someone who always struggled to express emotions, Bella somehow always managed to reach the deepest corners of his heart.

He pulled her gently into his embrace.

Bella happily melted against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.

After a comfortable silence, Leo rested his chin lightly on top of her head.

"Bunny."

"Hmm?"

"From now on... You don’t have to ask me to take care of your family."

Bella blinked.

Leo’s arms tightened around her just a little.

"They became my family... the moment you became my wife."

Bella’s eyes filled with tears once again.

But this time, they were tears of happiness.

She smiled so brightly that even the evening sunlight seemed a little warmer.

"I love you, Leoo," she whispered against his chest.

Leo gently kissed the top of her head. "I know."

After a brief pause, he added in his quiet, calm voice,

"...And I love you too."

More than words could ever explain.

He kissed her head multiple times, his lips stayed against her hair, her forehead, her temples. Each kiss was soft, tender, filled with all the words he couldn’t say. His hands cradled her face as if she were something precious, something he was afraid might slip away.

Then he gently lifted her head.

Their eyes met.

Bella looked at him with eyes full of love, her gaze soft and warm, like the evening sunlight that surrounded them. There was no fear in her eyes, no doubt. Only trust.

And something shifted in Leo’s gaze. His gray eyes became intense, dark, filled with a hunger that he had been holding back for too long.

Without warning, he pulled her so close that there was no space left between them. Their bodies pressed together, and she could feel the warmth of him, the strength of his arms wrapped around her.

He kissed her soft pink lips.

It wasn’t gentle this time. It was deep, consuming, filled with all the fear and relief and love that had been building inside him. His lips moved against hers with a desperate tenderness, as if he was trying to pour everything he felt into that single kiss.

Bella’s cheeks flushed a deep pink. Her hands instinctively gripped his shoulders, steadying herself against the overwhelming intensity of him. She still found him overwhelming, his presence, his passion, the way he made her feel like she was the only person in the world.

His hand became naughty, wandering slowly down her back, tracing the curve of her spine. His fingers pressed gently against the fabric of her dress, leaving a trail of warmth wherever they touched.
