His Genius Wife Is A Superstar Chapter 4 - Shallow Mother And Daughter

Previously on His Genius Wife Is A Superstar...
Iris Long awakens from a year-long coma, discovering she has taken on the life of a young pop singer known for her wild lifestyle. With the memory of her tragic death in a car crash, she embraces this new chance at freedom, yearning to escape the constraints of her past life. As she adjusts to her new reality, her estranged and opportunistic mother, Wei Lan, makes her presence known with overwhelming affection, and tensions arise from the complex family dynamics surrounding Iris’s fame and upbringing. Iris resolves to seize her second chance, however daunting the road ahead may be.

A heavy sigh escaped Iris as she rubbed her temples.

As the fresh occupant of this physical vessel, she realized several complications needed resolving before she could attain the independent and liberated lifestyle she craved. Although Iris Long’s existence was a chaotic disaster, the prospect of navigating this new life filled her with a sense of thrill.

"Honeeeey, are you okay? Is your head throbbing?" Wei Lan whipped around to face the medical staff, shrieking, "Why are you just standing there?! You’re supposed to be doctors! Fix her headache this instant! You are all incompetent! Get me the hospital director! I’ll have every one of you replaced! Don’t you knooooow who I am?! My ex-husband is the President-CEO of Long Industries!!!"

"Mother, please settle down. I am fine. Dr. Ching and the team are doing everything possible to aid my recovery."

She was an intruder who had mysteriously taken over another person's body. While Wei Lan was the biological mother of the original Iris, she was nothing more than a stranger to the current soul inhabiting the body. Though she felt no affection for the woman, Wei Lan was her mother in this world now. So long as the woman didn't cause her intentional harm, Iris decided that basic politeness was the least she could offer.

Dr. Ching offered a smile of gratitude. After finishing the check-up, the medical team exited the room, leaving the two women alone.

Once the door clicked shut, Wei Lan sat down with a dramatic flourish in the bedside chair. Crossing her slender legs, she let out a theatrical sigh.

"You must demand that your father visits you. You were trapped in a coma for a year! One whoooole year!!! Imagine, an entire year without shopping or facials! The horror!!! My poooor daughter! It is only right that you ask him for anything. Hmph! Make suuuure you request something grand and pricey. Perhaps a private jet. Then, your mother could borrow it occasionally. You’d let me use it, wouldn't you? A yacht would be lovely as well. We could host magnificent parties at sea! Ooooh! Wouldn’t that be amaaaaaaziiing? If you explain how terrifying the coma was, I’m certain he’ll buy you anything you desire!"

Iris watched Wei Lan’s glittering eyes and sighed. It was obvious the woman was already picturing herself globe-trotting on a private plane and entertaining a revolving door of lovers on a yacht.

"Father is already aware of my status since he is the one settling the medical accounts. It is entirely his choice whether he visits or not. My only goal is to recover and return home as quickly as I can."

"Oh? You’re going back to the Long estate? That's fine too. It’s about time you reminded them that you are an heiress as well."

Iris glanced at her sideways. "I have my own residence."

"Hmph! A daughter of the Long family living in that tiny dump! It’s humiliating! It is your father’s fault for employing that wretched money man! You can't even buy a proper mansion because that bastard restricts your spending! And your father just lets that man do as he pleases! Neither your father nor that money man will let you use your wealth freely. You can't buy a mansion, and your father refuses to buy one for you! Meanwhile, those brats he had with those sluts live like royalty while you work soooo hard!! Where is the justice?! My poooor daughter!"

Iris wondered what the woman was ranting about. A tiny dump? Her inherited memories indicated that Iris Long owned a penthouse that spanned the entire top two floors of a luxury condominium. For a teenager living alone, it was arguably too spacious.

She had secured the penthouse at an excellent price thanks to the negotiations of her financial manager—the one Wei Lan kept calling the "damn money man." However, Iris suspected that Long Tengfei had quietly intervened to help the original Iris secure such a favorable deal.

Neither mother nor daughter had ever desired to live under the same roof. To Wei Lan, the responsibility of supporting her daughter fell solely on her ex-husband. She felt her duty ended after nine months of pregnancy and enduring the agonizing pain of labor.

With those trials behind her, she believed she had earned the right to be pampered by a collection of admiring men.

As for the original Iris, she had been repulsed by her mother’s endless string of lovers. Furthermore, she had no desire to live with the Long family, who clearly detested her. Consequently, moving into her own place had been the only viable option.

Iris observed Wei Lan as she continued to prattle on about trivial matters. She did not share the original Iris’s intense disgust for the woman.

Wei Lan was obsessed with wealth, beauty, and above all, herself. Yet, she wasn't inherently evil. She was certainly a bitch, but she wasn't the type to commit serious crimes to achieve her goals.

To put it simply, Wei Lan was shallow. The original Iris had been shallow as well. They were cut from the same cloth. Using the logic of magnets, both mother and daughter carried the same negative charge, causing them to constantly repel one another.

The new Iris, however, was a neutral force—neither attracting nor repelling. She would remain civil as long as no one provoked her. But if they dared to attack... a cold, dangerous light flickered in her eyes.
