Nathaniel reflects on the nature of inscriptions, comparing them to Earth's technology. He and Group 4 are preparing to fight Tariel the Undying by using Sophie's mental manipulation, supplemented by inscriptions and orbital attacks. Their ultimate goal is to prevent the Kaiju from gathering and triggering a world-ending event, possibly by using one Kaiju to kill another. Nathaniel and Tess then travel to Megacity, disguised with masks, to confront their next target.
