Heaven, Earth, Me Chapter 1635. Evelyn’s Heart Trial.
Previously on Heaven, Earth, Me...
While Evelyn was looking around, Cecile had already noticed that she was in the Heart Trial. The instant they separated, Cecile felt her connection with Yasenia fluctuate very slightly. She, who was always attentive to it and talking through it, was endlessly familiar with their connection.
So, the second that fluctuation happened, Cecile knew that the Yasenia in front of her was not her Yasenia. Cecile’s icy blue eyes moved from person to person, a troubled look appearing in her eyes. ‘...Who is real?’
Fylia answered softly. ‘I believe neither Tatyana, Angel, nor Kali are real. As for Evelyn, Andrea, and Doriel… I am unsure.’
Cecile agreed. She was a genius fighter, but her mind also worked quickly. If anything, Cecile’s instincts were almost as sharp as Yasenia’s. So, her phoenix tails flicked lightly as she pondered.
Yasenia’s voice reached her in her mind through the fake link. ‘Sweetheart, are you okay?’
Cecile frowned deeply. Even her usual deadpan expression couldn’t help but distort when someone tried to speak through her precious link. It felt as if someone was intruding in her personal space. ‘Don’t talk to me.’
Yasenia showed a startled look, looking back with a worried and hurt expression. “What do you mean, Sweet—”
Cecile, unable to hold back her disgust, drew her bow and fired an arrow at blinding speed.
BOOM!
Yasenia's body quite literally vanished; a massive circular trench extended forward due to the terrifying force of Cecile’s arrow. “Didn’t I tell it to shut up? Disgusting.”
Tatyana looked at Cecile and spoke angrily. “Cecile!”
“Another fake.” Cecile drew her bow again, blasting Tatyana to pieces.
Tatyana angrily talking back for killing Yasenia? Heh. If Yasenia died, Tatyana would not do something as mild as shouting in anger.
With two more draws, Kali and Angel were also instantly disintegrated. Now, the only ones left were Cecile, Doriel, Andrea, and Evelyn.
“Who is fake?”
Andrea looked at Cecile’s icy expression, and she looked around with a bewildered look. “Fakes? Where did Yasenia and the others go, then?”
Evelyn crossed her arms with a frown. “I can’t tell. I believe that if we go to that mansion, we will be able to tell slowly.”
Cecile glanced at the distant mansion and then at Doriel. “Speak.”
Doriel’s pitch-black eyes glanced back at Cecile. “You speak too much, Madam Cecile. Are you sure you are not the fake one?”
Evelyn and Andrea paused and looked at Cecile with doubt. Cecile’s expression didn’t change. “Fakes are too weak… I think it is best to fire an arrow at each of you and be done with it.”
Evelyn shook her head. “You mustn’t. There is a high risk of killing someone.”
Cecile looked at Evelyn and drew her bow. Evelyn quickly reacted, drawing her spear. “Cecile. Stop. We need to be 100% sure before we act.”
Cecile looked at Evelyn and spoke. “Summon Sierra.”
Evelyn waved her hand, summoning Sierra. The tall, muscular, and curvy Wolf Queen appeared, looking at Cecile with a frown. “Cecile. Let’s talk first.”
Cecile looked at Andrea. “Summon Ebirah and Vairon.”
Andrea did so as well, and Cecile lowered her bow. Looking at Doriel, Cecile sighed. “You are too quiet.”
She didn’t think Doriel was fake because of her lack of reaction to Yasenia’s death. On the contrary, it was that lack of reaction that made Cecile doubtful. After all, if Doriel could also tell, then her lack of action would be perfectly explained.
Looking at the mansion in the distance, Cecile sighed. “Annoying.”
***
Evelyn closely looked at the copies around her. She didn’t know if her group was entirely false or if there was one or two real ones included. Sadly, her senses were not sharp enough to distinguish them, which showed just how high-level these copies were.
Currently, all of them were acting quite in tune with how they would if Andrea had suddenly been killed by a trap. Yasenia’s aura was turbulent, her golden slit eyes having changed to a murderous blood-red. Kali was trying her best to regrow the flesh and protect the soul, even when it was clear that it had been a one-hit kill.
While she knew that it was false, Evelyn’s heart couldn’t help but beat wrongly. After all, even when she knew that the Andrea that “died” was false, seeing someone you thought was real a second ago be brutally killed didn’t feel comfortable.
‘Calm down. Find clues. Make sure you don’t lose your mind.’
Sierra, in her mind, noticed the change in Evelyn’s mood. It truly went through up-and-down changes every single moment, making her frown in worry. “Evelyn… are you okay?”
Evelyn answered. ‘They are false.’
Sierra thought that Evelyn had lost it after seeing Andrea die. Even Sierra was feeling incredibly distressed, not to mention Evelyn. However, Evelyn quickly explained her thought process. “We are probably in the Heart Trial. These copies are basically perfect, and I can’t tell real from false, but there are some mistakes…”
At first, Sierra was doubtful, but the more she listened, the more her own mood calmed down. Still, she had to ask the hard questions for Evelyn’s good. “What if Andrea was the only real one?”
Evelyn looked at the corpse for a few seconds and took a deep breath. ‘She isn’t. She can’t be. At least, I won’t believe it until I pass this trial.’
That doubt was gnawing at the back of her mind, but Evelyn couldn’t do anything. She had already tried to sense any incongruity from the half-corpse, but she came back with nothing. So, Evelyn had to push down that option and place it to the side.
She heard Kali speak. “I’ve used a preserving pill and soul-trapping pill. This can probably delay Andrea’s… condition. Yasenia, pull yourself together. We must continue forward and leave here so that we can treat Andrea.”
Evelyn paid attention to their conversation when Angel suddenly pulled her shirt. Glancing over, Evelyn noticed that Angel was looking around with distrustful eyes. She heard her communicate secretly. “Evelyn, did you also feel it?”
Evelyn looked at Angel closely for a few seconds, and Sierra asked. ‘Is she real?’
Evelyn’s purple eyes flashed with intelligence. ‘...She isn’t. Kali isn’t real either. Yasenia as well. Tatyana is not real as well. Andrea… we are still unsure. The only one I am doubtful about is Cecile.’
Sierra was surprised. “What’s your reasoning?”
Evelyn answered flatly. ‘Angel has not summoned Mirrory. Kali has not summoned Valeria to treat Andrea. Yasenia would’ve instantly noticed that neither Angel nor Kali are real, and with Andrea’s supposed death, both of them would’ve been pinned down. Tatyana is someone with monstrous death and soul mastery, but she did not involve herself with Andrea. She also would’ve noticed someone impersonating Yasenia and acted right away.’
“Did I feel anything wrong…? What do you mean, Angel?”
Even when she knew Angel was fake, she answered. Angel looked at her and muttered. “Some of their reactions are unusual.”
Evelyn answered noncommittally. “Ah. Yes, it is quite odd.”
The trial probably chose Angel as the ‘companion’ that Evelyn could confide in. It must’ve been random, because choosing Angel, the one with the ability to see the truth, was the worst choice. ‘What do you mean that something’s odd? If there was something odd, Angel would probably smash it with her Truth Intent.’
The only one Evelyn had a headache about was Doriel. She didn’t know the woman much because she always acted as Yasenia’s shadow. So, the only one who could tell if she was real was probably Yasenia or Tatyana.
The group finally moved on after keeping “Andrea” safe.
“Let’s go up the stairs.”
Yasenia spoke with an emotionless look, as if her body had been drained because of Andrea’s situation. Seeing that, Evelyn almost swung her spear in annoyance. ‘Have they not been looking at us closely? The fact that I missed Yasenia being fake for so long is a big blunder.’
As they explored, they entered several rooms where there were traps that hurt each individual. ‘If I had not come back to my senses, I must’ve become too stressed to notice that I am the only unharmed one.’
However, she was now aware, and she could tell the oddities around her clearly.
Evelyn was suddenly teleported to a room. In front of her, Angel and Doriel were tied, showing confused looks. A voice spoke. “Choose who lives.”
Evelyn glanced at Doriel and smiled apologetically. “Sorry. Angel is much more important than you to me.”
She summoned her spear and looked at Doriel, approaching slowly. Doriel looked between Angel and Evelyn, and eventually, she nodded as if resigned. ‘This one is fake as well.’
Evelyn’s hesitation faded. Dorie accepting death because of her reasoning? If she were real, Doriel would’ve spoken about the other fakes by now.
‘With this one solved, the only unknown is Cecile.’
After killing Doriel and leaving the room, everyone looked at Evelyn with contempt, as if her choice was incredibly reprehensible. Yasenia spoke coldly. “Evelyn, I thought better of you.”
Evelyn’s patience finally snapped. “I can bear you putting on Yasenia’s face and clowning around, but you using her face to look down on me is far too much.”
Evelyn looked at Cecile and spoke. “Cecile, how long are you going to wait? Yasenia is clearly a fake. Kill her.”
Cecile looked at Evelyn and Yasenia. “How are you so sure?”
Evelyn sighed in relief. “So I was the only real one.”
Cecile showed a confused look. Evelyn shook her head. “It seems that this trial is not made for those with as close ties as ours. It is quite ridiculous that an entire family decided to take the Guardian Trial together at the same time, after all. Those around me should’ve been strangers who joined me to participate.”
So, Evelyn summoned her spear and pointed upward. “All of you fakes, die.”
A terrifying electric storm manifested above the mansion, and a second later, a gargantuan lightning bolt descended from the sky.
BOOM!!
Evelyn was uninjured by her own attack, looking at the devastated area around her with indifferent eyes. A second later, Evelyn appeared in a white space, and nearby, she noticed Angel standing with a bored look.
Both of them glanced at each other, scanning each other in detail. Evelyn smirked. “Let me touch your tits. I need to know if you are real.”
Angel rolled her eyes. “No need. I can tell you are real.”
Evelyn trotted over. “Come ooon… Just a touuuch… Just a little bittt…”
Seeing her hands reach out, Angel didn’t move and allowed her hands to squeeze her large breasts. Evelyn smiled pervertedly. “Huehuehue… So soft…”
Angel looked up at her and chuckled. “Alright, enough. We don’t know where the others are yet.”
Evelyn moved and hugged Angel from behind. “They should arrive soon. Let’s wait for them.”
Angel nodded, leaning back calmly.
