Haikyuu : The Unstoppable Force Chapter 328 - : Karasuno High vs. Fukurōdani Academy! (1)
Previously on Haikyuu : The Unstoppable Force...
Within the hotel housing the Karasuno High team, the day's crucial strategy session was underway.
Coach Keishin Ukai stood before the projector, a stern look on his face as he surveyed the players.
"Tomorrow's match is paramount! Its importance needs no further explanation!"
"Just as we did against Nekoma, I expect everyone to remain completely focused!"
"Do not let your guard down simply because you are familiar with this opponent!"
"If you act on assumptions, you will surely pay the price!"
"I'm certain you all learned that lesson during the Nekoma game!"
"Yes!"
A resounding chorus answered him.
Although Karasuno and Fukurōdani were well-acquainted, a considerable amount of time had passed since their last practice match.
Both teams had undergone significant development.
Indeed, both Karasuno and Fukurōdani had forged entirely new tactical approaches.
And on this occasion, consensus held that this match would be no different.
It was the fourth day, and second-to-last, of the Spring High Tournament.
The venue for today's games had shifted from the Musashino Gymnasium to the esteemed Central Gymnasium.
With a greater capacity for spectators, the atmosphere crackled with palpable energy.
As the scheduled game time drew nearer, the number of vacant seats dwindled noticeably.
"Go, Ryū! Let's go, Karasuno!"
The moment Karasuno entered the arena, a familiar voice boomed from the stands.
Saeko Tanaka, leaning precariously over the railing, her body almost fully extended, waved with immense enthusiasm and a broad smile.
Beside her stood Udai Tenma, Akimitsu Tsukishima, and others.
"Do your best, Kei!" she called out next.
Met by Akimitsu Tsukishima's piercing gaze, Kei faltered for a brief moment but managed a smile nonetheless.
Elsewhere in the crowd, Shimada and Takigami, who had journeyed all the way from Miyagi Prefecture, were also vociferously cheering.
Further back, the cheer squad was impeccably organized.
The majority were Karasuno students who had journeyed to Tokyo during their holiday specifically to support their school's volleyball team.
Across the court, Fukurōdani Academy, Karasuno's adversary, commenced their own warm-ups.
Following the warm-up drills, players from both teams occupied their starting positions on the court.
Spring High School Semifinals: Karasuno High versus Fukurōdani Academy!
With the referee's sharp whistle, the match officially commenced.
Karasuno initiated the game with a serve from Shōyō Hinata.
From Fukurōdani's back row, Akinori Konoha advanced swiftly to make a clean receive.
Fukurōdani's tactical setup deviated from conventional styles, yet shared certain parallels with Karasuno's approach—particularly their strategy of keeping their ace active in the front court for extended periods to maximize their offensive threat.
"Akaashi! Akaashi!"
Kōtarō Bokuto was already in peak form during the initial set.
He held his right hand aloft, signaling for a set.
However, Keiji Akaashi, poised to deliver the set, did not proceed immediately. He subtly scanned Karasuno's blockers on the opposite side of the net. Perceiving no immediate opening, he then directed the ball towards Bokuto.
Fukurōdani was treating this match with utmost seriousness.
Their profound familiarity with Karasuno dictated an intensely focused approach to the game.
Having undergone extensive joint training, they were acutely aware of Karasuno's capabilities when fully engaged.
The instant Akaashi's set left his fingertips, Bokuto's eyes ignited with intensity.
On the other side of the net, Akira and several other Karasuno players appeared to anticipate the set to Bokuto.
They recognized the strength of their blocking formation, knowing that if the setter could not bypass it, the ball would inevitably be delivered to their highest-potential scorer.
And for Fukurōdani, that player was undeniably Bokuto.
Boom!
A powerful crack resounded from Bokuto's spike.
He had carefully aimed to blast the ball past Karasuno's block, but just as it seemed poised to clear, Akira suddenly thrust his right hand sideways with sharp precision—
—effectively sealing the gap.
Smack!
The ball met his hand cleanly, deflecting sharply towards Karasuno's back court.
"First touch!"
"Got it!"
Ryūnosuke Tanaka retreated and expertly controlled the ball with a solid receive.
Positioned at the net, Tobio Kageyama was already discreetly analyzing Fukurōdani's defensive layout.
This was an indispensable skill for any setter.
A careless set without understanding the opponent's defensive structure could lead an attacker directly into a well-laid trap.
This time, Kageyama opted to set the ball to Akira.
He had not identified any obvious weaknesses in Fukurōdani's formation, leaving him with no choice but to set for their most probable point-scorer.
Boom!
Akira delivered as expected. He leaped and slammed the ball directly into the Fukurōdani block.
The ball struck Akaashi's arms forcefully—yet instead of rebounding into Karasuno's court, it caromed far out of bounds.
The referee's whistle cut through the air from the sideline.
Karasuno scores!
"Nice block-out!"
The Itachiyama players, more than anyone, possessed the clearest understanding of the ongoing match. Having previously participated in joint training camps with both Karasuno and Fukurōdani, they were intimately familiar with both teams. During those camps, Fukurōdani had historically secured more victories against Karasuno than they had suffered losses. However, this statistic did not necessarily imply Karasuno's inherent weakness. The outcomes of those past encounters frequently depended on a single crucial player—Bokuto. It was not uncommon for Bokuto to lose his rhythm during practice games for various reasons. Yet, when Bokuto maintained consistent performance throughout an entire match, Fukurōdani generally held a strong advantage against Karasuno. Of course, this assessment pertained to the state of both teams immediately following the Interhigh tournament. At the current juncture of the season, even the astute Nekoma players found themselves unable to predict the outcome. After all, Karasuno had recently been crowned Interhigh champions. On the other hand, Fukurōdani's track record was equally formidable. As one of Tokyo's elite powerhouse schools, their presence at national tournaments was a constant. Within Tokyo's internal qualifiers, they were even capable of achieving decisive victories against formidable opponents like Itachiyama. Furthermore, in recent encounters, Bokuto had been performing at the peak of his abilities, leading Fukurōdani to triumph over Itachiyama on multiple occasions. This context is precisely why, as they observed the escalating intensity of the current match, the Nekoma players experienced a palpable sense of internal conflict.
