Vincent Carey awakens to his mother's yelling, irritated but focused on the day's importance: his second chance at mage awakening after failing at age fifteen. He admires his reflection, noting his mage family heritage and improved physical strength, then showers, dresses in a grey sweatshirt and black jeans, and packs his backpack while battling growing nervousness. Checking his schedule on his wristwatch, he discovers the ceremony is at 3:00 PM—later than anticipated, heightening his anxiety as he hurries to Little Star Gate High School and reflects on the class divisions based on talent.

Stepping onto the school premises, I made my way toward the classroom. Along the path, I spotted some familiar faces. Those guys were roughly my age. Yet, they were assigned to Class A. I avoided staring at them for too long. Reaching the second-year building, I ascended the stairs in mere moments and approached my Class B6.

Spotting no sign of the Class Teacher, I slipped inside the room and claimed my spot in the back row.

Not much time passed before I went in. Gradually, more students poured in one after another.

The classroom soon held all thirty members. The full class strength was there today.

As these thoughts crossed my mind, a grating voice interrupted.

"Hold on, really?" Isn't it fascinating who showed up? After the second awakening, Vincent will turn into a strong mage. So, we ought to show him some respect." Sean Walt delivered these words with sarcasm, especially emphasizing the second awakening.

At the sound of Sean's voice, all eyes turned toward Vincent Carey. Most classmates wore amused looks, while some showed worry, sympathy, or indifference. It was the usual daily spectacle they were accustomed to.

Since Mage Blood flows in everyone's veins. Aside from their personal Mage power and innate talent, nobody felt above the rest.

I flinched hearing Sean's taunting tone.

"Does this fool see me as an easy target?" I muttered under my breath.

Following my usual routine, I stayed silent. Noticing Vincent's relaxed demeanor, Sean's face contorted into a scowl. "I doubt you'll reawaken your ability during the second awakening." "Your nightmare truly starts once you drop to Class D," Sean mused inwardly.

With a huff, he shot back and headed to his desk. The other students returned their attention to the lesson. Being a daily occurrence, it didn't faze them.

Soon after the exchange, a middle-aged man wearing spectacles stepped into the classroom. Clad in a white tuxedo, he had black hair and eyes, standing about six feet tall with a lean frame. His look tied to his Mage ability. As a level 3 Light Mage limiter, he couldn't draw in mana to advance further because of his weak skill. Eventually, he turned to teaching. Dave Wise served as the current Class Teacher for this group.

Seeing their instructor, the students fell silent.

Class Teacher Dave Wise nodded once he had their focus. Then, he shared an update. His eyes scanned the room before lingering on Vincent Carey. Vincent's composed face surprised him. He offered a small nod in return.

"As you all are aware, the Second Mage Awakening occurs at noon," Class Teacher Dave Wise announced. Those registered should arrive promptly. The awakened ones among the rest will head to the library."

Hearing his words, expressions shifted across the students' faces. Some yearned to watch the event live, others buzzed with excitement. Gradually, the chatter subsided, and the teacher began the session.

Deep inside, I released a heavy sigh.

"Gruuurrr" My belly rumbled.

Catching the sound, dark lines formed on my forehead. I should've mentioned it to Mom; she could've fixed me up easily. Instead, I'm stuck handling this. Such a hassle!

Though my outward calm remained, my mind fixated entirely on the Second Awakening.

I observed my classmates closely. Most had awakened their Mage Power, yet their aptitudes were merely average. That's why no promotions happened. From memory, ten from our class moved up to elite classes after the first awakening. Including Class A, B1, B2, and B3.

Each talent tier climb edged you nearer to the elite ranks.

Now, a transfer from Class C had joined us in exchange. Shaking my head, I surveyed the room. Tilting my head, I looked at the blackboard. The teacher explained human anatomy. Human Physique differed from Mage Physique. Each Ascension unlocked further evolution.9

"You know, the key for any Mage isn't their Mage Profession," Class Teacher Dave Wise stated. Rather, it's their talent. Without solid talent, advancing levels proves impossible. So, no matter your Mage Profession, poor talent hinders strength gains. Progress becomes a struggle.

"Upon awakening your Mage Profession successfully," he went on. An illusory core forms in your heart. This core connects to your Mage Profession. For a Fire Mage, it's a Fire core in the heart. For a Sword Mage, an illusory Sword resides there, akin to a Mechanical Core. With every Ascension, your core strengthens, boosting your Mage Power further."

His explanation lifted the classroom atmosphere, dispelling the earlier gloom.

Meanwhile, I felt fantastic. For a moment, I even ignored my stomach issues.

As mentioned, Mage Professions fall into various types. Mankind's mages don't just wield elemental forces. From the dawn of Mage society, many kinds have emerged. With growing population, variant Mage Professions awaken more frequently.

Mage Profession:

Elements: Wind, Water, Fire and Earth

Elemental Variants: Tornado, Ice, Lava, Soil and Unknowns.

Extreme Variants: Darkness, Light, Thunder, Poison and Healing and Unknowns.

Taboo Variants: Space, Time and Unknowns.

Sub Taboo Variants: Gravity, Time Delay and Unknowns.

Physique Variants: Sensitive Hearing, Penetrative Vision, Sensitive Smelling, High Pitch Voice, Strength and Speed and Unknowns.

Mechanical Variants: Sword, Axe and All Kinds of Tools.

Trash Variants: Extreme Eating and other unsuccessful Tool variants.

To date, my parents shared these Mage Profession details with me. Among them, Mechanical Mages ranked the lowest. Mastering Mechanical Tools demands exceptional skill. Otherwise, life mirrors that of an ordinary human.

Picture awakening Sword Mage with Mid-Level Talent, manifesting your Sword Tool effortlessly. Leveling up once might transform your Sword into reality.

But therein lies the challenge. Cultivating true talent proves far from simple.

Shoving aside those grim thoughts, I tuned into the lesson.

Time flew by, ending the period. The teacher exited the room.

Break time arrived, offering a chance to unwind. I left the classroom for some fresh air. A handful of students followed suit. For a short spell, someone seemed to watch me from afar.

Turning back to check, it was Sean. "This swine!" I cursed softly. I remembered why he bugs me. It all stems from my impressive big brother.

Sean's older sister shares the same year as my brother. How ironic. She appears smitten with my brother's path. Now, both attend the same college.

My brother got incredibly lucky. Yet, Sean resents my brother, not his sister. Thus, he vents his frustration on me.

Shaking my head, I tried to slip away.

Just as I aimed for the stairs, a voice called from behind.

Sean chuckled while adding, "Vincent, Professor Mathew wants you in his office."

Noticing I halted, he pressed on with his scheme.

"I haven't seen him today," I replied, facing him. "Don't try to dump your tasks on me." I snapped sharply.

I could tell he schemed to drag me into trouble.

His face twisted upon hearing Vincent's retort; his plan was busted. So, he altered his approach, saying, "Even if you don't believe it, unlike you, I've awakened." "See ya, I have other matters to handle."

After those words, Sean departed the area. He spared Vincent no backward glance.

Conversely, a surge of unknown anger gripped me. Without my current weakness, I'd have schooled him properly. And he counts on my inability to fight back.

Then, I eased my tension. Since today wasn't favorable, staying under the radar made sense. Glancing at my wristwatch again, only five minutes remained before break ended. Time slipped away fast. That cursed pig delayed telling me on purpose. Frustration led me to clench my fists. What now? My thoughts raced.

Professor Mathew's tough, his office linking to the lab. Unlike others, he skips classroom teaching. Instead, he guides practical sessions in the lab. No theory lessons exist. Rumors swirl about his shady past.

Plus, with his quick temper, avoiding offense is smart. After settling my mind, I picked up my pace.
