Outside Territory

Magic Lord Duncan came to the edge of a crater. He saw the enemy lying at the center of the deep pit. He had faith in his magic spell.

So he started approaching him. Meanwhile, Boris was feigning unconsciousness, but he heard the sound of footsteps.

He knew the enemy had taken the bait. He was waiting. Once the enemy got closer, he would slash him with his sharp claws.

Thud!

Duncan kept his eyes on the enemy while approaching. His senses did not alarm him of any danger.

Puckak!

When he got closer to the fallen enemy, long, sharp claws flashed before his eyes before slicing through his chest.

His rib bones were exposed. Blood spurted from the wound. Duncan crashed backward onto the ground.

All of this happened within seconds.

"He... He... He...," Boris let out a creepy laugh before standing up.

"How is this possible?" Duncan asked.

He knew how the magic spell worked: it was supposed to drain the strength of the targeted enemy. But this was the first time he saw someone shrug it off entirely.

Boris stood up after some struggle. He saw the wounded Duncan on the ground, his chest bleeding heavily. Five sharp claw marks could be seen across his chest.

"You must be surprised. Your spell did work, it drained my strength. But you forgot that I’m a Physique-type Wizard. I can use rare magic spells you’ve never even heard of," Boris said with a smile.

Hearing that, Duncan felt a searing pain radiating from his chest. Those sharp claws had broken right through the defenses of his Magic Lord body.

Listening to the enemy speak, his face turned grim. He knew the enemy was some kind of Physique-type wizard, but his spell had worked against similar Physique-type wizards before.

Then he realized the enemy was from the Covenant, an ancient wizard force. Obviously, they possessed knowledge of lost and rare magic spells.

Boris wore a wide smile before walking toward his enemy. His sharp claws did not only cause physical injuries; the pain caused by the wounds would continue to intensify.

There would be a severe burning sensation. Even if the enemy managed to get up, Boris would attack again.

Thud!

Duncan tried to get up. At the same time, he thought about other magic spells he could use. He tried to circulate the mana in his body.

However, the terrible pain caused him to lose focus. He looked down at the claw wounds on his chest, and his expression darkened further.

He realized it must be an added effect left behind by the claw marks.

"You noticed too late," Boris said with a smile.

He then extended both of his hands. His monstrous hands grew long, razor-sharp claws. If those claws struck again, Duncan would be gruesomely injured.

Duncan pushed through and managed to stand up, leaving a gap of only a few steps between them. Both of them stared at each other.

Just as Boris had disrupted him from channeling mana, Duncan was now afflicted with terrible pain that prevented him from forming a magic circle.

Slurp!

Boris smiled and licked the sharp claws on his right hand.

Duncan felt dread. He had no solution; his mind froze. He could only rely on his raw physical strength to fight, but it was hard to focus while enduring such excruciating pain.

He looked at Boris, who was smiling creepily.

"You can die now." After saying that, Boris attacked.

The claws of his right hand shot straight toward Duncan’s neck.

Boom!

Right then, Boris was locked in place by an unseen force. His whole body froze. He couldn’t move a single muscle.

The sudden suppression caused a shockwave of force to ripple through the area.

Duncan saw the claws hovering right next to his neck. If not for the sudden intervention, the claws would have sliced straight through his throat.

Swoosh!

Duncan quickly retreated. Seeing the enemy restrained, he looked around to see who had intervened.

"Duncan, we didn’t expect you to be injured this badly," an old man’s voice echoed.

Swoosh!

A few figures appeared in the sky, the old man among them. Duncan looked up at them, his expression changing drastically.

He hadn’t expected the Forbidden Wizards to arrive. He recognized the old man wearing the uniform of the Black Tower, a well-known Forbidden Wizard.

Swoosh!

The old man descended to the ground. He had white hair, black eyes, and a stern expression, looking like someone perpetually in a bad mood.

He was adorned in the Black Tower uniform.

"Lord Ambrose," Duncan greeted him in a polite tone.

He hadn’t expected this old man to come. Not only him, but others were hovering in the sky as well. Each one of them was a powerful Forbidden Wizard of the Black Tower.

Duncan figured the rest of them had arrived from nearby areas after hearing the news.

Elder Ambrose nodded to him before turning toward the enemy. He observed Boris’s transformed, monstrous arms and claws.

He saw through it in a single glance: it was a type of monster physique talent. Even so, he did not lift the pressure suppressing Boris.

Ambrose appeared before him in a flash and looked down at the enemy.

Magic Lord Boris was terrified to the core. While fighting against his opponent, he had lost track of time and forgotten that enemy reinforcements could be on the way.

Now, that slight negligence had created a fatal mistake. He was probably going to die.

He had heard their conversation. He hadn’t expected this many Forbidden Wizards to appear. He now understood what the frontline wizards were so terrified of.

They hadn’t wanted to take on missions in Darkmoon City at all; they had known from the beginning that it was the base of the Black Tower.

Boris didn’t know what to say. It was because of the higher-ups’ orders that they had come here. Now, they had walked right into a trap of their own making.

Ambrose eyed him from head to toe. Then, he took out special anti-magic cuffs and snapped them onto the enemy’s monstrous hands.

Sshsh!

The next second, the anti-magic cuffs activated. The monstrous hands began reverting to normal human hands.

Boris began to lose all his strength. The curse that had suppressed Duncan’s magical power rebounded and took effect on Boris instead, causing his legs to give out immediately.
