We were chatting casually. Lady Caitlin seemed relaxed now. The hostility was gone. There was no tension now. The members were respectful.
She was a new member, but she was a Magic Lord expert.
"What’s your magic power?" I asked.
Hearing that, Patrick, Otto, and Hank became interested. They were also surprised that the Master had hired her without knowing her magic power.
Caitlin nodded her head and manifested a golden book in front of her.
Gasp!
A low exclamation sounded.
"It’s book magic. I can record vast knowledge in the book," she said. Then she took back the book. The book disappeared into thin air.
Hearing that, my eyes flickered with interest. She was a human zero puppet. I believe her magic could do more.
Once I controlled her using the Crimson Scroll artifact, there would be no secrets hidden from me. But I didn’t know how long it would take.
The discussion continued.
Everyone only divulged information about the appraisal work and the shop in the Crystal City.
"So, where is the shop owner?" Caitlin asked all of a sudden.
Hearing that, the members turned towards me. Caitlin turned towards my side and asked, "Do you know?"
"Well, he has his own missions. We are doing some field work for him," I said to her.
Caitlin nodded her head.
Otto, Patrick, and Hank were silent on their side.
Right then, Old Man Rock made his entrance. The members relaxed.
"Elder Rock, everyone is waiting for you. It’s time to depart for Darkmoon City," Hank said to the old man.
"Well, I bought a few things to help with my injury," Old Man Rock replied.
Just then, his gaze fell on the old woman. He felt a sense of crisis. He realized that the old woman was a real Magic Lord.
"Old Man Rock, meet our new member. She is Lady Caitlin, a Magic Lord powerhouse. She is going to be our seventh member," I said to Old Man Rock.
"Yes," Old Man Rock replied.
He came to his senses and introduced himself. He thought that Lady Caitlin might be older than him.
Lady Caitlin sensed the injured state of Old Man Rock.
"How are you alive?" she asked.
Hearing that, the members looked towards Old Man Rock.
Old Man Rock was not offended. He thought Lady Caitlin must have seen through his injury.
"My old injury has somewhat recovered, thanks to Young Master here," Old Man Rock said.
"Young Master?" Caitlin uttered in confusion and turned towards the masked man.
Patrick, Otto, and Hank were taken aback. They didn’t expect Old Man Rock to address him like that at the wrong moment.
Caitlin understood there was something more that she didn’t know yet.
"What does he mean?" she asked.
Hearing that, Old Man Rock was confused. He then saw the reaction of the other members and realized something: the new member didn’t know the whole story yet.
"Appraiser Frank, if you are hiding something, you better tell me. I don’t want to hear a lie," Caitlin said in a stern tone.
"Lady Caitlin, there is no lie in our information. It’s just one more piece of information I didn’t share with you. It’s about my other identity. Because of the current mission, I cannot disclose it to you yet," I said to her.
Caitlin furrowed her eyebrows. She then thought of something and asked, "Was it related to the absolute loyalty you spoke of?"
"I have told you already. What do I need to do to prove it to you?" she added.
Hearing that, everyone was quiet. The members’ expressions were serious. They knew she was a Magic Lord, but her tone was rude right now.
On the other hand, I was pondering whether to tell her or not.
Swoosh!
Right then, someone made an entrance. The person was none other than Market Leader Katie.
A hint of relief flashed in my eyes. She had come at the right time to break the ice. Even Lady Caitlin’s eyebrows eased.
Market Leader Katie came to the spot. Her gaze swept across everyone. She didn’t know what had happened.
Everyone was looking at her with some relief. But she collected her thoughts and walked up to the masked man.
"I shared the information with the higher ups. They deeply regret their actions, including sending an elder to monitor your Magic Lord," Katie said.
"So, your higher ups verified our background?" I asked her.
I felt this conversation could ease Lady Caitlin’s tension.
Caitlin was observing the conversation as well. She knew about the elders in the council and how they could find the truth about our background.
"The elders think that unless you have a death wish, you wouldn’t make false claims," Katie said.
Hearing that, my mouth curved into an arc.
"So, what are you here for?" I asked her.
"Well, the elders were afraid that the Silver Tower might vent its anger on the market, so they offered an apology gift." After saying that, she took something from her storage bracelet and handed it over to the masked man.
I accepted the small black box. I raised my eyebrows in surprise. I didn’t expect the market elders to come up with such a plan, but I liked it.
"What is inside?" I asked her.
"Well, you can check it first," Katie said.
Patrick, Otto, Hank, and Old Man Rock were looking towards the black box. Lady Caitlin had already guessed something. She knew inside information.
She knew about the council elders and how they dealt with certain problems.
"It must be one of the magic treasures from their inventory," Caitlin said.
Hearing that, my interest was piqued further.
Market Leader Katie was not surprised. She knew Elder Caitlin had contacts with the council elders.
Under the gaze of everyone, I opened the black box. My gaze fell on the bright red stone inside.
[Ding! A special relic has been detected. It can be used to repair the Crimson Scroll Artifact.]
I heard the system voice in my mind. A storm of excitement surged in my heart. I knew it was not easy to encounter special relics; they were hard to find.
Yet, while I had come across more than one during my adventures, this time the special relic had found me instead.
