Gravity Mage with Level-Up System Chapter 2063: Recruitment Attempt
Previously on Gravity Mage with Level-Up System...
General Wizard Market
While exploring the market, I found out that the market was unusually big. There were many useful stalls. It appeared they had set up here to attract visitors from nearby cities.
Among the stalls set up here, I found a stall selling magic resources. It targeted low- and mid-level wizards.
There were no magic resources for Level-6 and above in the stall. Maybe such resources were sold in secret. I still didn’t know much about the marketplace here.
There could be some hidden underground areas and other things.
As time passed, I came across an interesting stall. It was nothing but an old book stall. No one was near the stall.
But I usually liked old bookstores. I walked up to the place. Then I saw an old woman sitting in a reclining chair. Her eyes were closed.
I looked at her for a second. Then I felt a sense of crisis.
[Ding! Danger!]
[Ding! The person is a Magic Lord Expert.]
The system sounded alarm bells in my mind. Hearing that, a storm raged in my heart. But I quickly controlled my outward expression.
The Market Leader was a female Supreme Wizard. I had thought the stall owners would be weaker than her, but I was wrong.
"Are you going to stand there?" The old woman opened her eyes and asked.
Hearing that, my eyes flickered. I nodded to her before arriving in front of her book collection. My gaze swept across the book collection.
I picked one of the old books from the rack. Then I flipped through the pages.
[Introduction to Mana Diseases Caused by Magic Spells]
I read the introduction. The introduction itself piqued my interest. I flipped a few pages.
"Wait!"
"You have to buy the book first," the old woman said.
Hearing that, I was taken aback. I didn’t expect there was such a rule.
"System, scan the book," I said to the system in my mind.
[Ding! The book has restrictions in place. Prying will lead to the destruction of the book.]
I heard the system’s answer in my mind. It once again shocked me. I realized the old woman was no ordinary Magic Lord.
Even the Zero Puppet wouldn’t be able to solve the problem. It must have been nearby investigating the area. Then I collected my thoughts and looked toward the old woman.
"How much is it?" I asked.
The old woman with short white hair and blue eyes looked toward me.
"It appears you are sensible. You don’t have a death wish. The price of that book is 100 mid-grade mana stones," she said calmly.
"What?" I uttered in shock.
"Mid-grade mana stones? Not low-grade mana stones?" I asked again.
The old woman looked toward the masked man with a deep gaze. She said, "Do you really think I would sell fakes?"
"Most of them are from my family treasury," she added.
Hearing that, I didn’t know why, but I felt her words were true.
"System, did you find any falsehood in her words?" I asked the system again.
[Ding! No trace of lying was found.]
I heard the system’s voice and decided to pay with mid-grade mana stones. I took my pouch out of the storage bracelet.
The next second, I felt the piercing gazes of many behind me. I turned around and looked toward a disabled man with a creepy smile on his face.
He was standing next to a nearby stall, but his gaze was entirely on me.
"Do you want it?" I looked at him and asked.
The greedy man was stunned for a second. But when his gaze fell on the old woman, he was terrified. Next, he turned around and disappeared back into the crowd.
Similarly, several others who were eyeing the bracelet were petrified. They didn’t dare to look at the old woman’s stall again.
I was surprised. I had thought of teaching them a lesson, but I didn’t expect the old woman to command such fear. Then I paid her with 100 mid-grade mana stones.
She then gave me the book.
"It’s the original book written by my ancestor. It doesn’t have another copy," she said in a sad tone.
Hearing that, I accepted the book, but I didn’t store it right away. I asked, "Why are you selling your ancestor’s books?"
"I can tell that your ancestors were once from a strong wizard family," I added.
The old woman was silent for a second. She then looked into my eyes. I was wearing a mask, yet I felt that the old woman could see right through me.
"Yes, my family was once well-known across the continent. But it declined over the passing generations. Now, I’m the only one left in the family," she said.
She didn’t know why, but she was telling her life story to the masked man.
"So you are selling your family treasures in the market to earn magic resources?" I asked her.
"Yes," she replied.
"With your strength, you could work in any wizard organization, earning a good salary," I said.
"I’m too old. My lifespan is reaching its end. Maybe a few years, that’s all. I want to spend the rest of my time living in the market," she said.
Hearing that, I put away the book inside the storage bracelet.
Next, I looked toward her. An idea came to mind. She was a strong Magic Lord. If I could recruit her to my team, my team would grow much stronger.
On the other hand, the old woman was confused. She didn’t know why she had shared everything. And now, the masked man was not leaving the place.
"Stall owner, why don’t you work for me?"
"I will provide the resources. If possible, I will try to find a solution to your lifespan problem," I said to her.
Gasp!
Hearing that, the old woman was stunned. For a second, she thought she had heard wrong. Why would anyone hire a dying woman for a job?
She looked toward the masked man in confusion.
I saw that the old woman was in disbelief.
"I’m telling the truth. I want experienced wizards on my side. Especially someone with a strong background and Magic Lord strength," I said to her.
