The Manager of a pet shop met with Wizard Alaric to deliver collected materials, but fell short due to interference from Magic City personnel. Alaric was displeased and threatened to report the owner. After Alaric left, he used a scroll to summon a living puppet crow, which took the materials. The narrator's zero puppet, which was recording the events, returned and played the conversation and the crow's appearance. The narrator, realizing the group was not local grave robbers, ordered the zero puppet to investigate City Lord Kael's background.

Hotel Room

I picked up my device and made a call to Lord Charlotte. But the connection was not established. I furrowed my eyebrows.

"She could be somewhere else," I thought.

Then I put away the device. I decided to rest for now.

...

City Lord Office

Kael was sitting behind the desk. Tomorrow midnight was going to be an important event. He was aware that a lot of shady activities were being done. But he had received his commission as well.

So he could not afford to make any mistakes. If anyone got caught, then he would be exposed as well. Then he picked up his device and browsed the contact list.

He had a backer as well. He knew a few wizard families in the satellite cities. He had even married a descendant of a wizard family in one of the satellite cities.

His own family resided in one of those cities. He decided to inform both families. Because Appraiser Frank was no ordinary person.

He didn’t know a red smoke had infiltrated the room. It was recording the conversations.

Time passed.

The local forces were thrilled. For tomorrow’s midnight event, they had started their preparations early. They knew the appraiser’s service was not free.

They had to carefully select the items for appraisal.

The news reached nearby cities as well. They wanted to come and participate. Unfortunately, it was not a public event. It was a closed-off event.

Only the invitees could attend. Even the local forces had to fight for it. Not all of them could send their representatives.

Even among the local forces, there was a hierarchy. They were now in touch with the City Lord’s office to get their invitation.

...

The next morning,

I rolled over to get on my feet. I stood up and began to do my morning routine. Tonight was going to be busy.

The morning routine lasted for an hour. Then I appeared inside the Gregor Mansion. In the hall, I saw the lifeless bodies of the troublemakers.

But I didn’t feel bad. They were far beyond recovery. Then I entered the system space and saw the two monsters in the corner. They were resting.

I decided to buy them enough food later. Next, I found a good spot and began my practice.

I closed my eyes and began to run the Gravity Ark Mental Method.

Outside

The red smoke entered through the window gap an hour later. It saw that Master was not in the room. It didn’t go anywhere.

Instead, it reverted back to its original form and stood in the corner.

One hour later,

I appeared outside and saw the Zero puppet.

"Master," the Zero puppet greeted me.

"Did you find anything on him?" I asked.

"City Lord Kael is from a wizard family in one of the satellite cities. No one in his family or his in-laws’ family has any connection to the Magic City," the Zero puppet replied.

"Then it’s good. He won’t do anything tonight. You can explore the city further and come back a few hours before midnight," I said to the Zero puppet.

The puppet agreed. It turned into its red smoke form and left through the window.

Then I entered the bathroom and took a cold shower. The cold shower lasted for 20 minutes. I walked out and changed into comfortable clothes.

Then I lay on the bed to relax.

Meanwhile,

Otto, Patrick, Hank, and old man Rock were getting ready. They knew about tonight’s schedule. But they were active during the morning time itself.

After getting ready, they were discussing whether to go outside or not. Their identities were exposed right now. They might run into people outside.

They decided it was better to stay here.

...

City Lord Office

City Lord Kael came to the guest hall to inspect it. The guest hall could accommodate at least 300 people without any problem.

And they had only sent out 100 invitations. The invitations were not only given to the wizard families but to important individuals in the city as well.

Some of them were important people to City Lord Kael. He couldn’t neglect them while giving invitations to other forces.

He also wanted the event to be successful. He had informed his family’s side. They didn’t want to become enemies of the Silver Tower.

Though the families were paying contributions to different Magic Towers, they were not big enough to get full support from the towers.

So if he truly offended someone connected to the Silver Tower, no one would save him.

He decided to monitor the event himself.

...

In the hotel room, I stood up and checked the time. Seeing that there was still time left for the event, I left the room and went to see the members.

When I saw them, they were happily sitting and talking in the living area. Upon seeing me, there was a pin-drop silence.

I looked at them before sitting on the sofa opposite them.

"What happened?" I asked them.

"Master, we were just discussing fun things," Otto replied.

"Hmmm," I uttered.

Suddenly, Patrick glanced at Otto. Hank and old man Rock looked toward Otto as well.

Otto saw that and understood the meaning.

Their little reactions didn’t go unnoticed by me.

"If you guys want to ask me anything, you can do it," I said.

"Master, then we would want to know whether you have found any intel?" Otto asked.

"Why do you say that?" I asked back. I didn’t answer; rather, I wanted to know how they came to that conclusion.

Otto’s expression turned serious.

He then said, "Master, you seem relaxed. As if you have enough intel and you’re taking your time to collect further intel."

"Spot on," I thought.

"You are right. I did find something and reported it to the higher-ups. But I can’t share that information with you guys right now."

"I still need to get confirmation from the higher-ups as to whether the intel is valid or not. Because almost all the cities have illegal networks."

"It could be them. So I’m waiting for confirmation. After getting confirmation, I’ll think about the next move," I said to them.

"No wonder," Otto thought.

Everyone had a moment of enlightenment.
