Capital City
Through the window, my gaze scanned the bustling city. Among the locals, many visitors from neighboring countries were present.
The allure of the tournament had drawn them here. If it weren't for my personal mission, I would have stayed to witness the spectacle.
Perhaps upon completing my task, I shall embark on a journey to explore the world.
Our flying cab navigated the congested streets. As we neared the Raymond Mansion, the traffic ahead began to thin.
This development didn't surprise me. My only hope was that no Forbidden Wizards were lurking nearby. The cab driver seized the opportunity, finding an opening.
The path ahead cleared considerably, and he accelerated. Five vehicles trailed behind, maintaining a slower pace, seemingly unwilling to match our speed.
It was evident there would be no throng of onlookers outside the Raymond Mansion. Given that this esteemed wizard family boasted an Elder-level Ancestor, the public exercised caution, mindful of offending them without cause.
Consequently, few ventured into that vicinity unless conducting business. However, the opposing side of the street, lined with shops, attracted a steady stream of customers.
"Guest, where shall I drop you?" the driver inquired.
"Please drop me in front of the magic store over there," I replied.
"The Raymond Family Magic Store?" he asked for confirmation.
His question prompted me to raise an eyebrow. I had consulted the map before arriving, thus I was aware of the businesses affiliated with the mansion.
A few minutes later,
The vehicle turned onto a solitary street with expansive roads. A formidable wall dominated one side, while a row of shops lined the left.
Initially puzzled, I understood when my eyes swept over the shop names – each bore the 'Raymond' moniker.
"Could the entire district be under their control?" I mused.
My attention then fixed on one of the magic shops. I signaled the driver to stop. He slowed the cab and halted directly in front of the establishment.
Upon exiting, I settled the fare. The driver observed me, noting the mask I wore, a sight he hadn't encountered recently.
He then considered the ongoing tournament.
"Many unusual individuals have arrived for the event. He might be one of them," the driver surmised before driving away.
Magic Shop
I entered the shop, a multi-story establishment, without hesitation. My gaze immediately landed on the staff members stationed behind the counter.
I began to survey the interior, noting the presence of other customers. Soon, a female employee approached me.
"Guest, how may I assist you?" she inquired politely.
Her question turned my head towards the opposite side, where the Raymond Family's estate was situated.
The woman followed my gaze to the imposing wall and then remarked, "Don't tell me you're another admirer of Young Master Raymond. He's currently unavailable; he's been preparing diligently for the tournament."
"Rumor has it he's journeyed to Nyx Land, a place perilous for those lacking dark mana," she added further.
Her revelation gave me pause. I had come seeking intelligence, not anticipating such direct information. It seemed supporters of Young Master Raymond frequented this establishment.
Nyx Land was a name that had not appeared in my prior intel briefings.
"And where, pray tell, is this Nyx Land located?" I inquired.
A sudden smile graced the woman's lips.
"It lies at the border," she explained. "Regrettably, entry is forbidden without authorization. Furthermore, the pervasive dark, corrupting mana within the land poses a lethal threat. I strongly advise against venturing there."
"I've cautioned numerous individuals, yet some have persisted, only to be overcome by the dark mana and perish," she elaborated.
Her words solidified my resolve. The prospect of confronting the target there presented a valuable opportunity. Should he return to the capital, he would undoubtedly pose a significant challenge.
I harbored no desire to be pursued by an Elder-level powerhouse. A faint smile touched my lips as I considered the possibility of her divulging the route to Nyx Land.
An idea struck me, and I produced a small pouch, offering it to her.
"Might you be willing to share directions to Nyx Land?"
"The safest route? Any particular dangers to avoid?"
I pressed. Understanding dawned on her as she examined the pouch. Inside were one hundred mid-grade mana stones.
Her eyes widened in disbelief. She quickly concealed the pouch within her storage bracelet.
"Ha... Ha... Ha..." A light chuckle escaped her.
"Here is a map," she disclosed, her smile returning. "It indicates the most accessible and secure path to Nyx Land. Bribing the border guards will grant you entry."
Accepting the map, I unfurled it to examine its contents. My system's probe function confirmed its accuracy; she had not been deceitful. I then stored the map within my bracelet.
Now, I understood why so many had met their demise. It was highly probable she had provided them with similar, misleading directions. With that thought, I departed the shop.
Stepping outside, my wait for another taxi commenced. After a few moments had passed, I boarded a different cab. Glancing at the map, I inquired of the driver if a trip to the border was possible. The elderly driver appeared taken aback. He then cast his gaze towards the Raymond Estate and the accompanying shop. "Esteemed guest, venturing there invites certain death," he declared. Upon hearing his words, I turned my attention to the old man. "It seems you've frequently ferried passengers to the border," I remarked. The old man chuckled, responding, "Young Master Raymond commands considerable popularity, you see. Numerous admirers aspire to become his disciples." "So many have attempted to showcase their prowess before him. However, Nyx Land is a place steeped in curse; survival is impossible without dark mana," he elaborated. "Rest assured, I have an associate expecting me. I have no intention of entering that accursed land myself," I responded. Though the old man seemed surprised, his disbelief was evident. Nevertheless, he proceeded to navigate the vehicle forward.
