Frank agrees to help the old man and his granddaughter Emily, who was afflicted by an evil magic spell. The old man reveals his village was attacked by people from a bordering country, and that Forbidden Wizards may be involved. He also offers Frank teleportation magic to speed up his travels. Emily awakens but suffers pain due to the suppressed venom in her body. Frank realizes the attacker likely abducted Emily for a specific purpose and suspects the old man knows more than he is revealing.

Stone House

"It’s not safe for her to be here," I thought.

The old man remained silent. However, I surmised that the individuals accompanying the brown-haired, middle-aged man would soon realize his disappearance.

It's quite possible they might dispatch another team. A flicker of cunning entered my eyes; I shouldn't accept the old man's words at face value. I need to conduct my own investigation.

"Old man, do you possess a map of this area?" I inquired.

While I have a map, it lacks the necessary detail. I suspect the old man holds a more significant one.

The old man displayed no surprise. He was gratified by the young man's request for specifics, interpreting it as a sign of interest in remaining rather than an immediate desire to depart.

"Indeed, I have a map. It’s a digital one." With that, the old man shared the file with me.

Buzz!

The map appeared on my device. Upon accessing it, I noted my current location was precisely marked, along with a mountain range situated a few miles from here.

This mountain range is known as Granite Crest, the very one the old man mentioned. My gaze then shifted to the area beyond the mountains: the vast territory of a sprawling country.

Its name is Verdantwood, and true to its name, the land is abundant with lush greenery. A capital city, Verdant Capital, stands at its heart.

Numerous cities surround the capital, and the map indicates many significant locations.

My attention was drawn to a particular spot. Though the name was in the local tongue, I could decipher it.

"Teleportation service," I murmured.

The old man overheard my words. He turned to me and stated, "I informed you. It's located within the Capital City. I have a contact there who can facilitate your journey to your intended destination," he added.

My heart quickened. The old man wasn't deceitful. This country, then, is not some remote backwater but a hub of technological advancement.

It bears a resemblance to Magic City. I let out a sigh of relief. Perhaps my journey won't be as arduous as I feared.

A swift glint appeared in my eyes. I turned my gaze towards the deceased individual outside. Stepping out of the house, I approached the corpse.

I intended to retrieve information from his belongings. I examined the body and the discarded staff scattered nearby.

It appeared he had emptied his storage bracelet before his demise.

My eyes scanned the ground until I discovered a notebook, seemingly a diary. I retrieved it and placed it within the system's storage space.

I wished to keep this from the old man. As I surveyed the vicinity, the old man approached me.

"Did you find anything?" the old man inquired, his tone now serious.

"No, I was merely observing the black armor. Does someone command such a private force?" I asked.

The old man's eyebrows rose. He had indeed withheld certain information from the young man, fearing that revealing too much would prompt his departure. After all, the young man was a Supreme Wizard, and forces like Magic Lord and Forbidden Level were involved.

"I am unaware," the old man lied.

This time, the system detected the falsehood and alerted me. I was now certain the old man was concealing something. Yet, it no longer mattered. Knowing about the teleportation facility, my next step was clear.

A plan formed in my mind as I turned back to the old man.

"Very well, old man. I shall take the corpse with me. It may prove useful in my investigation," I declared.

Barry was taken aback. He had indeed seen the black armor; it could potentially offer clues. He decided to permit the young man to take it.

"Agreed," Barry responded.

In the next instant, I transferred the corpse into my storage bracelet.

"I shall proceed to explore the surroundings then," I informed him.

The old man showed hesitation, worried the young man, Frank, might abscond. He then shook his head; he could discern that the young man required the teleportation platform.

"You may depart. However, do not forget this place. We shall remain here," the old man stated.

Nodding in acknowledgment, my gaze shifted to the little girl. Once more, I employed the system to assess her condition.

The system indicated she had approximately half a month remaining. I must locate the perpetrator before this deadline.

"I am departing now." With those words, I left the premises.

Ascending into the air, I navigated towards the Granite Crest mountain range, following the map's directions. My intention was to remain in proximity to the mountains until the system completed its update, after which I would proceed to the city.

The old man watched as the young man departed. Once he was out of sight, the old man re-entered the stone house.

It wasn't that he lacked the means to rescue his descendant; however, such actions would necessitate drastic measures, potentially inciting chaos within the city. Nevertheless, he believed that with the young man's assistance, his descendant could be saved more swiftly. Thus, he had placed his trust in him.

Swoosh!

Meanwhile, I departed in a flash, leaving the area behind. My path was meant to lead to the edge of this land, yet I found myself traveling toward an unknown destination. However, this is precisely what one calls an adventure. I stumbled upon a relic unexpectedly, and it proves beneficial for system upgrades. Time marched onward. I'm uncertain of the duration of my flight, but as evening approached, the outline of a mountain range became visible. A flicker of relief crossed my features. At last, the mountain range was within sight. The cool, potent mana permeating the surroundings was already palpable. Were there any practitioners of Elemental magic nearby, they would undoubtedly deem this place a veritable paradise. As I drew nearer, the movements of monsters became apparent. It has been a considerable time since I last encountered any monsters. This area harbors not only lower-order beasts but also those of a higher classification.
